Their early work was a little too ... new wave for my taste. But when "Sports" came out in '83, I think they really came into their own. Commercially and artistically.
I saw them hit rock bottom when they played the chili cook off for the AM radio station in Hamden, CT. Picture the 5 middle aged people awkwardly dancing while no one else even pays them any attention.
Gotta admit, when I was growing up in the 80s my high school friends would get into rip-roaring discussions about who was better, Led Zeppelin or Huey Lewis and the News. Seems kinda silly now in retrospect...

Thank you, fellas ... I'm afraid you're just too darn loud.
or was he imagining it all?" conversation yesterday. Was pretty hysterical ... led to a conversation about "Fight Club." Which - I know, first rule, but - was a fun one. Can't watch that film too many times.
So ... was Patrick Bateman a killer? Or just schizophrenic?

You got new friends. I hope.
My Huey Lewis pal has long since admitted the error of his ways. Ironically enough, it was the Led Zeppelin guy who turned out to be the real asshole.

His life was so completely boring and empty that he invented himself an entirely alternate reality as a killer. Thought it was kind of clear when his secretary is reading his journal.
Just my opinion but I thought he very clearly was imagining it all
That's why "This confession has meant nothing". He's a fucked up guy, but it's all in his head (other than abusing hookers, I think). I mean, come on, he's running naked through the hallways of his building wielding a chainsaw and no one notices? He kills the hooker by throwing the chainsaw down the stairwell?
audience is supposed to leave wondering about the truth(unlike Fight Club which spoon-feeds it to us.) The imagery with the Twin Towers is interesting; the whole double life thing (whether real or imagined). Of course, the WTC being in the movie brings up a bunch of other emotions that didn't exist when it was made or the time it was set in.
At Sea World, one of those summer concert series things with Beer and BBQ kind of deal. I told my neighbor and his wife and she remarks that he is well-known to be hung like a horse.
Not sure why she felt like I would want to know that, or why I'm now sharing that with you fine folks, except that it changed the show for me.
He's singing "Doing it all for my baaaaaby," I find myself staring at his crotch. I didn't want to look, but she had made such a big deal about it. There was a bulge...a significant bulge.
Now, whenever anyone mentions Huey Lewis to you guys, you'll be thinking about that too! My job here is done.
American Psycho my thought was that Patrick was so insignificant and the '80s were such a messed-up time that his killings were just ignored. Like the world at the time was so cold and he was not important enough for people to even care about him killing people. After watching it more times, I think that theory is probably incorrect but I still like it better than it all being in his head. That theme had already been explored before (Walter Mitty, et al.)

WELI? .... at the end of Circular avenue?
It was on Benham street at the time, but maybe it moved. They had a little league baseball field there.

Pj - I think you are right ... it was Benham. But, doesn't Circular end at Benham? WELI used to be right across the street from an elementary School (can't think of it's name right now)

Yeah, they intersect, it was Dunbar Hill School. Not sure if that's still there either.
It has been a while though. Been in CA for about 30 years now. I have been back there to visit family and friends over the years but, the specific details from my childhood are fading ... ; ).

Same here, I lived in NoVA for 5 years then Boston for 18, but up until then lived in Hamden my whole life.

I have not posted on here in a long time. This is both disturbing and hilarious thanks for making my morning.

Vice versa. They sued and Parker had to pay up.

The theory is that Batemen is a closeted gay male, his violent fantasies are a way of coping with them, and he has AIDS (as did Timothy Price).
Sounds absurd, but save this link - its good subway reading.

Guess that is how he magically came up with it in 48hrs in that documentary "Hired Guns". I ripped it off.
ugh.
