Many think Quenton Nelson will not be the # 2 pick

bc4life : 3/24/2018 9:01 am
If so, its reasonable to think they will use at least one or two of their early draft picks for OL. Based on that scenario, who are some likely candidates?

On a side note, based on GM's comment that the # 2 pick should be HOF bound. I think Nelson is arguably the most likely pick.
The names that continually get brought up (mostly second round)

Hernandez, Wynn, Price, Smith, the Iowa center, the UCLA OT, the Oregon OT, etc. I'm sorry. I forgot some of there names right now.
We've heard from many that supposedly the top QBs are not at the

top of the Giants board. So in theory, Nelson at #2 would be possible. But a Guard at #2? Especially when there are teams desperate to trade up for a QB at #2 leads me to believe we won't take a guard at #2.
I'd love Hernandez or Wynn with our top 2nd rd pick

He may not be. There are plenty of options.

Nelson, Barkley, Rosen/Darnold, or a trade back - all outcomes that would make me happy.
There is 0% chance

Nelson is picked at 2. After 3-4 QB's get picked in the top 5 selections, nabbing Hernandez is a real possibility at 34.

Tyrell Crosby, Oregon
They probably go DB in the second

I think DG will draft a C and G in the third
Drafting so high...at 34
edavisiii : 3/24/2018 10:59 am : link
someone (like Landon Collins) will be there that we had no idea would slip through round one. I think you start drafting by need with the two #3s.
I love starting off day 2
8TimeChamps : 3/24/2018 11:38 am : link
all night to consider options, and there’s always that guy who has tremendous value sitting there. Let Cleveland have number two overall, draft Nelson at four overall, and give us the first and possibly third overall pick on day two. Day two we have 1 and two or one, two and three!
The QB in Rd 1 and teh OLine in Rd 2

Would be my preference?
If they take a G at #2

DG should probably be fired, that's not hyperbole either. I'm not saying you can never take a guard at 2, but not in this draft with the options on the table for the Giants. If the trigger man can't weight those very obvious variables, he's clearly too myopic to be shaping a roster in today's NFL.
I for one want Nelson, it is always a risk to draft a player, but this
SterlingArcher : 3/24/2018 12:50 pm : link
guy is the real deal. I truly believe he will be a consistent All Pro. If the Giants pass on him you can consider this draft a bust.
Look at Gettleman’s CAR History
MojoEd : 3/24/2018 1:01 pm : link
When the cupboard was bare in CAR with jettison of Josh Norman he had 5 draft picks in a draft with a supposed weak CB class. He cluster drafted CBS starting in the second - 3 out of 5 picks - and hit it with those. This is a strong interior line class, the NYG have a major need, so yeah, I would expect NYG to cluster draft 3 lineman .... and knock it out if the park with those.

That's part of what I was alluding to in my post. A trade down offer is absolutely on the table for the Giants, so in a deep and top heavy interior OL draft, it would be braindead just to go all in on Nelson at #2. You can probably trade down a little and get him + draft picks. Even if you miss out on Nelson by trading with Buffalo, you can grab 2 of Daniels, Price, Hernandez, Wynn and Braden Smith + still have another 2-3 Top 50 picks on top of that. I'd probably just opt for grabbing two of those guys over Nelson alone, let alone the additional value on top.

And that's just the OL discussion when not even taking into account the QB options, pass rushing DE or once in a decade RB prospect on the board.
Some names that haven't been mentioned
Peppers : 3/24/2018 1:59 pm : link
Martinis Rankin
Austin Corbett
Brian O'Neil

NYG has had interest in all three.

doubt the Giants draft Nelson at #2. Chubb is more likely. But neither would be a "remote thrower." I would prefer a small trade down.
Think he is a top 4/5/6 pick for the Giants
TMS : 3/24/2018 2:32 pm : link
if he is there, and we do not go QB or trade down. We have to get an impact starter with our first pick in this draft. Nelson would be that.
#2 is too early for a guard - imo
Tom in DC : 3/24/2018 2:39 pm : link
Its just too early for a guard. If you really want Nelson, trade down.
