I need a new phone and have not bought one in years. I have an old Blackberry now so looking to start fresh with something new. I don't care about streaming movies or songs, and camera quality/features aren't a high priority. I just need something dependable with a good signal and sound quality when talking. If I can get a phone that is high quality with those three things I would be satisfied.
Anyone have any good experiences with one they would recommend?
Thanks in advance
Droid Maxx.
Bustin' balls. But kind of accurate.

Be more specific about inferior?
Even though you're not interested in streaming there is one thing in the Apple eco system that should interest you: iMessages. iPhones, like all other phones support SMS Text messaging that use your provider's cell network. But iMessages is Apples own messaging system for their devices and computers that directly use the internet. There's no character limit with iMessages, no matter who your carrier is, you can attach documents, photos and videos and you can keep a message thread indefinitely . You also have access to your messages on an Apple computer and with a few twists and turns, a Windows computer.
And cheaper gig for gig.

Umm, Google Messages does those things too.
Except when they slow it down everytime a new model comes out. Cannot buy replacement batteries(if available) and change them yourself and sometimes not even with a tech.

That’s not true. They slow a phone if it’s battery gets weak to avoid sudden shutdowns due to voltage drops. You now have the option of disabling that if you’re willing to risk sudden shutdowns.
And iPhone batteries are replaceable for $79.

But most people will have to pay to replace, right?
By the way, I've had both an iPhone and Android. I just think people get sucked in to the brand loyalty of Apple, when it costs more relative to other alternatives and in most cases, aren't appreciably superior.
The brand loyalty is just an easy target because the fanboys get a little cult-y, but if you guys love Apple, nothing wrong with it.

Apple devices are super reliable. It'll become obsolete before it breaks and its time before it becomes obsolete is a lot longer than Android. If you're not interested in cameras, streaming , bells and whistles you can pick up an iPhone SE new for a few hundred dollars. The SE is essentially a miniature iPhone 6s. Its a myth that you'll save money with an Android. The top of the line Droids are as expensive as top of the line iPhones. The cheap Droids are junk that you'll be lucky to get a year out of.

But then you make the text bubbles show up green on the phones of civilized people.

Um, yes: $79 to replace, as I said.
The whole fanboy-cult thing is way overplayed. Apple sells over 200 million phones a year. That’s quite a cult. Most people get iPhones because they’re well built, simple to use, and are secure.
And, no I don’t own one. I have a Google Pixel.

Think that $79 was a one time for 6's and higher and my kids have iPhones and everytime a new model comes out they complain about slowdowns and have for years. But the fact remains, you can not buy a battery and change it yourself. Yes they love the iPhone, but hate the batteries and slowdowns.

The one time price for iPhone 6 and up is $29. $79 is the regular price via Apple or one of its repair partners.
I’m curious: do you have the battery complaints with Android phones? Because with the exception of a few low-end models, none of the current phones from Samsung, Motorola, LG, etc have user replaceable batteries either. To provide water resistance all phones are now glued together, and packing in components into a small size results in a complex assembly.

This draft has everyone fired up on every thread. I've never seen BBI like this since I've joined.
