Where does all the OBJ hate stem from?

BigBlueDownTheShore : 3/27/2018 11:47 am
I have a feeling it all stems from the OBJ/Norman fight.

There have been other celebrityesque tweets, media, etc. that feed into it, but without that fight I think they are all easily brushed under the rug.

So I ask the OBJ haters, if the OBJ/Norman fight had never happened would you still be this upset over the other things?

who don't remember that they rooted for LT

LT always handled himself like a pro on the field.

LOL....imagine if this was a quote from OBJ instead of LT:

Quote:

''I did crack from the middle of the '85 season to the end,'' he said, ''usually when we were at home. I'd stay out all night, get blasted on crack and then try to pick up as though nothing had happened the next day. . . . I don't know how long I could have gone on that way.

''Through much of this, I thought I could still play good ball. . . . I knew that I was no longer going at 100 percent. But I also knew that my 75 percent was better than most other guys' 100 percent.

LT the Saint - ( New Window )

So, Mickey Mantle sometimes showed up to the park stone drunk or hungover. Yet neither of them pull the antics or did the crap on the field Beckham has done.
Why is it considered "hate" if someone has a negative critique on OBJ?

I think he's a great player who is without a doubt a difference maker. At the same time I think he is immature and his antics at times on and off the field are idiotic.

I don't hate the guy but I do wish he would grow up and if we can't sign him then it only behooves the team to trade him
If you want the best player
sharpshooter66 : 3/27/2018 5:27 pm : link
you have to pay for the best player. If you think the best player is going to leave, sometimes its better to trade him instead of losing him for nothing and if thats the case im fine with it. I dont care about off the field drama at all i wouldnt trade him for that
Eh...

never understood the angst regarding OBJ, the kid is a beast on the field and by all accounts a great teammate who works his ass off. I have yet to see one single off field incident that shows him as an asshole or a “me first” douche....he’s a very young kid who likes social media....oh the horror!!! So we’re gonna crucify the guy because he isn’t Larry Fitzgerald and shit the bed in the playoffs...his first time? Please....has he stretched the limits of “taste” with his antics a couple times?...sure, but I’d bet most in his position might trip a time or two over the kind of instant fame he walked into.....and, btw I’m soon to be 55 so spare me the age excuses....it’s a sport/entertainment, people really should find other things to be bothered about.
I don't hate OBJ

However I have grown tired of his antics on and off the field. I want him to stay on the Giants for the rest of his career, but I want him to take his career more serious. Stop the self-centered celebrations and play to win each game.
Shave your head too! That ridiculous hair style is getting a bit like Dennis Rodman, in fact...his behaviour is like Rodman as well!

but I have this strange view that a person who wants to be the best paid wr in the league ought to be able to show the leadership skills/maturity associated with:

--Not acquiring personal foul penalties on really stupid TD celebrations;

--Controlling his temper after a marginal call;

--Supporting his teammates in any and all situations;

--Staying out of pictures that would appear to involve French models and drugs.

Personally, I am not looking to get rid of him. I am looking for him to respond to the loud and clear message from the Maras and others in management by showing some more maturity and some behaviors that are associated with leadership. Unfortunately, I am not particularly confident that this will happen.

Well that just makes to much sense. Don’t be surprised if OBJ supporters call you irrational to expect that from your highly paid star.

Don’t necessarily disagree with all you’ve said. But the man has pictures with drugs surrounding him on the internet. This is off field stuff but could easily turn into a suspension and effect on field availability. Factor that with the fact he wants QB money and I’m a little concerned with investing that much money in what appears to be a ticking time bomb. Drug testing wasn’t as crazy in LT’s days. You can’t get away with that these days. His attitude and decision making is a major red flag right now.
sniff, sniff. weep, weep

How is it that questionning the judgement of someone who behaves stupidly automatically becomes "hate"? What a stupid question. I think the overwhelming majority of posters just want to see him mature so that he can realize his enormous potential.
