BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 4/1/2018 10:46 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the SELECTIONS thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the entire draft.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (i.e.: Philadelphia Eagles won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Please utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of both available and taken prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible.

We had no 2nd or 3rd rounders...
Chris in Philly : 4/12/2018 12:26 pm : link
and we waited 100 picks between selections, but we had two quick ones and we have reenforced our specials immediately with a pair of athletic defenders.
I almost picked Burks Chris

Nice one.
Terrell Edmunds is the son of former Dolphins TE Ferrell Edmunds.
Optimus-NY : 4/12/2018 12:30 pm : link
Terrell's brother Tremain overshadows him, but Terrell is going to be a good one. I like bloodlines. Here's a good one.
Pick is in
MadPlaid : 4/12/2018 1:23 pm : link
the Packers really incurred a number of injuries to their offensive linemen last year, so adding talent was a priority. What I read about Parker on-line made me think he was a good developmental project to add to the mix. Green Bay has had a knack for finding good linemen later in the draft. Guys who were able to contribute fairly quickly. Parker I believe is one of those guys.

would have liked to go QB higher but Rudolph went before me. quite happy so far though

Arizona (DCPollaro) Da'Ron Payne DT Alabama
Arizona (DCPollaro) Christian Kirk WR Texas A&M
Arizona (DCPollaro) Darius Leonard ILB South Carolina State
Arizona (DCPollaro) (compensatory) Mike White QB Western Kentucky
Arizona (DCPollaro) (compensatory) Isaac Yiadom CB Boston College
Sorry DC
MadPlaid : 4/12/2018 1:42 pm : link
Try again. Isaac Yiadom was selected by the Eagles just a few picks before yours.

Your replacement was also drafted previously, at pick #124
Man that was a flurry of picks!

looks like we might start Round 5 Today!
So NE is on the clock but we've been using his board
Matt G : 4/12/2018 2:18 pm : link
(which has now been exhaused) for the last several picks... I emailed him so hopefully he checks in...

I'm going to be offline probably until around 6 or 7pm... Also, I'm out at an offsite all day tomorrow... I will try to check email, but if others can continue to help making sure the picks keep moving that would be a big help... Thanks!
Well Shit!
MadPlaid : 4/12/2018 2:20 pm : link
Rams got the TE I had my eye on. Crap. I was set to take him with my last pick, but I was too worried that Brandon Parker wouldn't be there at the top of the 5th round. So, I flip flopped them hoping Schultz would stick around. Gamble fail!

Damn you, BigBlueTT

I'd volunteer except my schedule looks a bit chaotic tomorrow, but maybe there is someone you can forward any boards you have for tomorrow and they can try to manage in your absence
Draft board decimated right now.
Andy in Halifax : 4/12/2018 2:54 pm : link
I think Clapp is a decent player. Thought he'd get around to me.
I have no boards at the moment
Matt G : 4/12/2018 3:27 pm : link
But would send the GM email list to anyone who feels they will be active tomorrow...

As much as I would like to award someone a Punter, I do not think the Patriots would do that with Ryan Allen still around. Next guy up is Quin Blanding who makes sense
Interesting pick for Arizona
Mike in NY : 4/12/2018 3:45 pm : link
I did consider Clapp, but my area scout who covers Louisiana, Jimmy Dugan, was screaming "avoid the clap"

Haven't looked at his picks, but if he hasnt taken a S yet then he'd be the pick
I'd create a call out thread
MadPlaid : 4/12/2018 3:52 pm : link
but it would probably be a waste of time. Torrag hasn't been on BBI since last night.
I would post autopick
Mike in NY : 4/12/2018 4:17 pm : link
But just wanted to see if everyone was on board since, technically, it is skipping the top name on the list

Fred Warner for the Cowboys

Good speed on the outside, immediate impact on special teams. Insurance for the aging znd often injured Sean Lee.
I'm here for about 25 mins.

Will send Matt a 2 person board again if I leave without being OTC
Andy you are up
Mike in NY : 4/12/2018 4:46 pm : link
Thanks to MadPlaid taking the final player on the short list for my pick of Da'Shawn Hand in Round 3 (Ian Thomas and Alex Cappa were the others)
And the 5th round is started
MadPlaid : 4/12/2018 4:49 pm : link
Very fast day today. Nice.

Rashaan Gaulden is the pick. He has displayed excellent finger extension. Seemed like a good guy to have when you really need an unsportsmen like conduct penalty.

In all seriousness, solid defender who can play multiple roles, corner, safety or nickel. Apparently a very well liked teammate although has a propensity to allow emotions to get the better of him. Thus the bird trick v. Alabama.
I think the Giants are done.
Andy in Halifax : 4/12/2018 4:49 pm : link
I don't see any more picks for Big Blue in 6 or 7.

Yep. 6 Rounds (plus up to 5 UDFA per team) provided it can be completed before draft day
Great choice

Andy!
Looks like the Sua Cravens trade wasn't accounted for
jlukes : 4/12/2018 5:58 pm : link
Denver should have had pick 113 while Washington had pick 109

Denver also only owns 149 and 160 in the 5th round

The rest belong to Washington.

Should we fix round 5 or just go with what's on the board?

All trades done after the thread is created do not get accounted for even if we have not gotten that far yet. That is why Brandin Cooks trade was not factored in. That is the policy of BBI Mock Draft. Otherwise it becomes too much work for Matt who graciously volunteers every year to coordinate.

Correct. You're done. I see you found another use for all that excess tissue on Orlando Brown: a new meniscus for Nick Nelson. Seriously, Nelson should be OK after surgery. He'd better be: the secondary needs immediate help.

Anyway, since it's easy to criticize, here's Andy's draft and what I might have done:
Sam Darnold QB USC (My Pick: Same or QB Josh Rosen - a tossup)
Orlando Brown OT Oklahoma (My pick: C/G Billy Price)
Shaquem Griffin OLB Central Florida (My pick: OLB Kemoko Turay)
Kerryon Johnson RB Auburn (My pick: RB Nick Chubb or WR D.J. Chark)
Marcel Ateman WR Oklahoma State (My pick: DE Breeland Speaks or OT Geron Christian)
Nick Nelson CB Wisconsin (My pick: Same or DT Derrick Nnadi)

Pretty similar overall. I'm not quite as much of a fence-swinger as Andy, and I think we need to add at least one two-handed pass-rusher.
Agree Mike

and think he'll go higher in the real draft. Very talented, ran slow at the combine but tape shows a fast player with a lot of skills.
Jerry Jones/ Dez meeting today
Rick in Dallas : 4/13/2018 8:45 am : link
I am sure JJ wants to keep Dez but Steven Jones is leaning towards a release of Dez from all reports down here in Dallas.
That is why I picked Ridley in first round.
It will be an interesting day in Dallas.
