BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 4/1/2018 10:46 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the SELECTIONS thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the entire draft.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (i.e.: Philadelphia Eagles won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Please utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of both available and taken prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible.

Did Nelson and Mcglinchey play on the same side? My question is could playing next to Nelson have helped Mcglinchey at all? It seems funny that the "Best LT prospect in two years" just so happened to be on the same line as the best OG prospect in like 10 years.

Yes. LT and LG
Even though FMiC said he would be back after 6
Mike in NY : 4/3/2018 5:15 pm : link
His time on the clock will expire before then. According to the rules we are supposed to give the top player on the list unless it is unrealistic (like having the Eagles draft a QB). Would the Panthers go for another RB (Guice) after taking RB last year? Evans and Bryan both seem unrealistic (Evans for scheme fit because they are a 4-3 with Kuechly at MLB and Evans is an ILB, Bryan just because they have a bunch of good/great DT's) so it would be Guice or skipping down to D.J. Moore
Okay

obviously lofty but he is an athletic rangy and versatile player. Not worried about him being light on experience. Very productive this past year.

If he has 3 years like that you are talking about him going higher than 26. Risk is he can't shed blockers well enough but bare minimum I think he is a guy that will make plays in space and be a top flight coverage backer.
Too bad Barkley picked one

I wanted to see which qb Giants were going to take - Allen or Rosen.

Lol. We are all amateur drafters here. Andy has no affiliation with the Giants. QBs went Rosen-Mayfield-Allen. Rosen viewed as #2 QB in this draft.

I had Rosen all ready to go assuming Darnold was going #1. I still like him and possibly even have a tinge of regret to be honest. Right now, he's the best QB imo. Darnold has HOF talent but needs development. Rosen has injury concerns though so that kinda tipped the scales a bit.

Also, I would not have drafted Allen in the first round. Obviously, he wasn't lasting to the second round but that's the only pick he'd be on my radar.

btw - slow start today, let's get this thing going!

Since we have had weekends before where 0 picks have been made, doing the math we will need to average slightly more than 14.5 picks per day in order to finish on April 20, the Friday before the draft (obviously, the more productive this is on weekends that brings down the average). User search shows that Pittsburgh was on BBI this morning but obviously did not make a pick in the Selection thread. Pittsburgh has until 11 AM then they will likely be awarded Derius Guice because he is the best player on the board and with Bell's contract demands and suspension issues I am not sure it can be said that it is so unreasonable that we must skip him.
I've emailed those on the clock and on deck

BigBlueDownTheShore : 4/4/2018 10:21 am : link
with the injury sustained last season, Pittsburg needs some beef at the ILB position. Also helps that he was the second best prospect on the board. Guice's injury history is concerning, so I went with the need value pick.

I was hoping Lamar Jackson would slip to me at the pick, but sadly he went to Buffalo!

Dodged a bullet. Evans is a great pick. Was on the short list for me at #30 for Minnesota.

Andy!

Will Hernandez is the pick to make the Jags running game even better. With the Norwell signing and now with Hernandez replacing Cann, the Jags will hopefully have the best offensive line in the NFL for years to come.

No worries, I feel like Josh Jackson is a pretty damn good alternative. Adding Josh Jackson to a secondary with Xavier Rhodes and Harrison Smith...with Mackensie Alexander coming into his own, I'm going to put the best 3 corners on the field. Trae Waynes has been a bit of a disappointment, but I'm building a no-fly zone in the land of the thousand lakes. A great defense getting greater.
If I may opine on Will Hernandez
allstarjim : 4/4/2018 11:43 am : link
I think many are underrating how good he is.

He is a monster that can move. Dave Te' Thomas said it has been 17 YEARS since he has scouted an offensive lineman with double digit knock down blocks per game. The last guy who did that...Walter freaking Jones. Will Hernandez did that last year with 10.33. He plays every game, and the only real question I had was if he is with his movement, because it's hard to believe a man that large can move as well as he does, but he really does. He is not just a run-blocking mauler, he can pass block as well, and he has strength in spades to anchor as well as the feet and base to disrupt quicker pass rushers.

37 bench press reps at the combine, and there may not really be much of a drop-off from Quenton Nelson and Hernandez. I feel like if he played at a big program, he'd go in the top 15.

Back to Josh Jackson...he has a little edge to him, he's smart, good at press or off, and tremendous ball skills. I think he's a big-time competitor, and his competitiveness is what won me over on him over a couple of other options.
Will Hernandez at 34 after taking Barkley at 2 would be nice
