What is your super fun "Draft day" Movie scenario for NYG?

Just for fun - How would you, if you channeled your inner Kevin Costner, manipulate the draft with the #2 pick?

Browns take Barkely 1st overall who was the #1 on the board for the Gmen who are also not enamored with any of the QBs.

Giants set their sights next on Nelson, #2 overall is higher than they want to go, but not out of the possibilities. The Browns want to jump ahead of the Jets and have their pick of QBs as well. They will spend:

Browns and Giants swap 1st rounders. Browns add in their second 2nd rounder (#35 overall) and their 2019 1st rounder)

Giants are now in the 4th slot with 2nd and 3rd second round picks as well as an additional 1st rounder next year. Still slightly uncomfortable with Nelson at the #4 and feeling frisky, the Giants get wow'd by the Bills who see Allen still available at #4. Bills move up ahead of the Broncos who they feel threatened by and offer the farm:

Bills get the Gmen's #4. Giants get both Bills #12 and #22 and they sweeten the pot with their 1st overall third rounder. Giants now sit at:

1st rounder 2019 (Browns)

Tampa Bay is on the board. They have their eyes on one of a couple secondary guys. Nelson has gotten past both the Broncos and the Colts. He WON'T get past the Bears. The Giants give up their #69 overall 3rd rounder and their #108 overall 4th rounder to swap first rounders with the Bucs. seems unrealistic? it's within reason on the Draft Trade Value board with a slight premium paid by the Giants. The Bucs get a high 3rd rounder to replace the pick they had given up already and they still feel they have a shot at 12 at getting one of the 2 DBs they are targeting.

Giants - Nelson og

Giants get the pick they wanted in the 1st... WHERE they wanted in the 1st... and bag an extra 1st rounder this year, an extra 1st rounder next year, an extra 2nd rounder at the top of the round as well as a higher 3rd rounder at the top of that round.

Ugh. I hate the idea of having the #2 pick and missing out on Barkley, Chubb, Nelson, Fitzpatrick, and all of the QBs. It is not always the more picks the better. Either stay at #2 and draft Darnold or Barkley, or trade down to #5 and take the BPA. There are several immediate difference-makers in this draft and several potential franchise QBs, don't get cute and pass up the chance to grab one of these guys.
Cleveland forgets about the draft.

We end up picking #1 with the #2 pick.

Hilarity ensues.

Even if the Trade Value Board says that the 3rd and 4th rounders are worth moving back from #7 to #12, REALITY would tell you that if the Bucs are really eyeing a top DB, Fitzpatrick is head-and-shoulders above the rest of the field so why wouldn't the Bucs just grab him right there?

Cardinal: I also just realized this makes no sense. You're saying the Browns aren't enamored with any of the QBs, yet they're willing to give up a 2nd rounder AND their 1st rounder next year to move ahead of the Jets just so they can make sure they get the QB they want? Why wouldn't they have just taken the QB they wanted #1 overall, take a chance that Barkley would be there at #4, and if he's not they'll still get another blue chip player in Nelson/Chubb/Fitzpatrick, AND they wouldn't have to give up anything.

Just saying, it makes no sense for them to pass on a QB #1 overall, then turn around and trade premium picks just to leap-frog the Jets and get the QB they covet.
2 parter, sorry for the miscommunication
CardinalX : 4/5/2018 9:25 pm : link
I didn't mean to imply the Browns were not enamored with any QBs. They clearly are. I meant to say... not only was Barkley the 1st on the Giants board, but they were also not enamored with any of the QBs. (2 important factors in how they were approaching the top 10)

I agree with you re: Fitzpatrick, there are mocks that have Ward higher. in fact, both Todd McShay and Mel Kiper have Ward going to the Bucs at 7 in their recent mock draft head to head. so there can be debate over who the Bucs value there. and if they feel that one or both of them might fall back to the #12 pick, why not add some value to their pick by trading back with the Giants?

oh... and you injected REALITY into your question... since when does reality have anything to do with the premise of the question? hehehe in REALITY, Kevin Costner would not be allowed anywhere near a draft room

But my ideal trade back scenario is with Cleveland. They select a QB with the first pick but They want Barkley bad enough to trade up, NYG gets pick number 4, 33, 35 and a 2019 2nd rounder. Giants take Nelson and then with all those 2nd round picks they have the option to possibly trade back into round 1 or stay put and select the first 3 picks of day 2, having the whole night to decide.

After Allen, the Giants select Darnold ,(the end)

Wait!

Cleveland calls and offers the 4th pick for OBJ and the Giants accept and draft Barkley.

The next day OBJ makes to Cleveland but he fails the physical.....after some back and forth. The Giant give them next year's #1 and the Giants get OBJ back and keeps Barkley with Darnold

I don't necessarily agree with your objective to get Nelson, but if he is at the top of the GIants board, then your fan-fiction would be a cool way to do it. Either way, I appreciate the effort put in the post because that's what makes the BBI so entertaining.

Unless the Giants feel that one of the QBs or Barkley, Chubb or Nelson are 'generational players' and are there at #2, I would trade down.

The more I read I am forming the opinion of the lack of any consensus re the 'generational' label and leaning toward safety in numbers.

There seem to be a nice collection of LBs, DBs, RBs and guards to be had in the first 50 picks.
