like we have a game 7 in Boston. unless there's another meltdown like 2013 (?)
Holy shit that was that long ago?
I think so, wasn't it?
Never know, Pens lost Geno and Hagelin against the Flyers.
Wahlstrom having a great tournament, Hughes even better, Farabee might move up a little in the draft.
US moves on to the QF's on Thursday I think against Russia.
Needs a growth spurt or it's NCAA's for him.
I'd complain about CBJ blowing a 2 - 0 lead when they won two games on the road, but I am looking forward to yet another PIT vs WAS series. Love seeing Ovie vs Crosby, these games get so physical and so much skill.
At least we get a game 7 and I think it's a Boston tease, they've dominated all the games except 1 and are tied 3 - 3 because Freddie Andersen found a playoff gear. He's playing incredible hockey and stole the last two games.
The coach moving Pleks to the top line and pitting them against Boston top line has helped too.
Pleks was good on SH though, and that is a difference, first two games Bruins PP was 5 for 10, I don't think they've scored on a PP since (off the top of my head)
I sort of expect him to be back in MTL next year.
Slovaks and Russians tied at 4 in the 3rd.
USA plays the winner in the QF's.
Loser gets the loser of the Sweden vs Canada game (tied at 1 in the 3rd).
Finland plays Belarus
Winner of Canada vs Sweden plays the Czechs
All QF games on Thursday.
Maxim is as good as Jack Hughes IMO.
Russia vs Slovakia tied @ 5
Sweden vs Canada tied @ 2.
Boqvist ties the game for Sweden with 30 seconds left to send it to OT.
great action.
I think he could still even grow a little, he's still 17.
So the QF's are set I think:
Canada vs Czechs
Sweden vs Slovakia
Finland vs Belarus
Russia vs USA
Times TBD.
Hughes finishes 2nd in prelim round scoring behind Cajkovic. Wahlstrom and Boqvist tied with 3 others for 6th.
Looking forward to Pittsburgh and Washington. I don't know, I'd rather se Toronto win but I think Tampa vs Boston will be a better/tighter series.

not speaking on authority, just my opinion, I think this layoff is longer than either SJS or LVG would like.
If they had key injuries that the rest would help it would be one thing, but coming off a sweep I don't think they wanted to wait this long.
But like I posted above the stanley cup playoffs are a grind, 4 series, that could (in this case didn't) go 7 games. So I don't think anyone complains too much, but I think rest to these teams would be 3 - 4 days, not over a week off.
Backes summed it up well:
Place will be insane from puck drop. Hoping for a Leafs win, since I hate Boston more, but not counting on it. Bruins 1st line has been frustrated the past couple games, but I think that ends tonight. Talent should beat a hot goalie given enough chances.

No U.S.-based NHL team had higher local reg.-season TV ratings than the Pittsburgh Penguins this year.
Lowest TV ratings? Anaheim.
Biggest gainer? Preds.
Biggest decline? NY Rangers.
Interesting data from team at @sbjsbd
Bruins had two good SH opps.
No idea why at home Bruins started their 4th line.
I can see treating it like an icing, make it to the offending team can't change and have the face off in the other teams offensive zone, but hate the penalty call.
A lot of jitters it seemed.
4 - 3 Leafs
I was just saying how much I dislike him, but I marveled at how he was able to still be on top of his game at his age. Well he's showing his age right now.
Hoping for either a Leafs win in regulation or an OT game.
Game 7 OT's are the absolute best thing in any sport.
That's where heroes are made and we only get so many chances at them as fans I don't mind who wins if I get to see one.
a lot of time left, but Toronto D is playing like themselves right now and their goalie officially turned into a pumpkin
TB vs BOS
PIT vs WAS
As far as the Rangers, Brunswick, Im sure the JVR rumors will start now that Toronto is out.
It all depends on the draft and who is moved.
If the Rangers consider themselves 2018-2019 contenders or not.
WAS vs PIT 7PM
LVG vs SJS 10PM
tomorrow:
NSH vs WIN (can't wait for this series) 8PM
Saturday:
TBL vs BOS 3PM
LVG vs SJS game 2 8PM
Sunday:
WAS vs PIT game 2 3PM
NSH vs WIN game 2 7PM
All there series actually look really good, least interested in LVG vs SJS, but the more LVG wins the less I feel like I know about hockey, LOL, so pulling for SJS.
agree. I think some of these experts just throw shit out there, but this was from Elliott Friedman who seems to do that less than others.
That said if they shed any more salary this off-season - say they can deal Smith or Staal? Unlikely, but never say never.
Kalrsson is only 27, turns 28 late May, so adding him wouldn't impact a rebuild. Your whole team can't be 22.
Several draft eligibles this year and some previews for next year.
I agree, but I think it depends what other moves happen and maybe more importantly who the new coach is.
Unless someone else gives up assets for them and extends them.
which is fine, but always depends IMO on the "assets".
US has Hughes playing with Wahlstrom and Farabee. Still rolling 4 lines, but this one is clearly their top line.
IS controlling zone play, but Russia getting as good chances in their limited zone time.
Still 1 - 1 two min left in 2nd.
