He is hoping and praying he goes 2. Personally I don't want him there

Me neither, not crazy about the scheme fit. We already have one DE converting to an OLB. Why take a guy at 2 that will need to adapt his game to fit a different scheme. Doesn’t seem to make sense. That being said, I trust Gettleman from what I have seen in Carolina so if he likes him go for it.

Agreed. I'm fine with the pick, but would prefer Barkley or a trade down. Chubb is a 4-3 DE. I don't really see him as an end in a 3-4, and although he's relentless, he doesn't have elite bend around the edge.

we needed a pass rusher before they dealt JPP.
So the Giants traded JPP for a 3rd rder
twostepgiants : 4/9/2018 9:17 pm : link
So they could use the #2 pick on the same position?

Doesn’t make any sense

They were likely looking at JPP's production vs. cap hit in 2019 of $18MM...the equation did not add up well.

A rookie DE would be on a potential 5 yr deal with very reasonable cap hits.

Personally, if they don't want a QB, they need to get a deal in place with Denver and move down to #5. Take Chubb or Barkley there, plus have several additional picks in place to start filling holes on this roster.

To get a younger, potentially better player. JPP wasn't playing anywhere near his pay.

And I don't even like Chubb at 2, but it would certainly make sense.

Weird logic.
Chubb is gonna be a bust....
Dry Lightning : 4/9/2018 11:15 pm : link
he stinks. He is being overrated because there are very few decent DE in this draft. Ponderous, slow, not a quick twitch athlete. A power rusher who I have watched do zero in several college games. Big mistake at 2.
You don’t deal a player
UberAlias : 4/10/2018 2:52 am : link
And then make a decision for a once in multiple decade draft pick based on a self inflicted need. If he’s the pick, it has better not be the result of their dealing their starter. That would be Browns level incompetence.

does it need to be said? The Giants aren't going to be running a pure 3-4. They will run 3 and 4 man fronts. The Scheme will be tailored to the talent. Scheme is a non issue regarding Chubb.

I didn't watch much college football this year, but a lot of folks have Chubb going top five in the draft. Just wondering if you could tell me in which games he did "zero?"

HA!
This guy checks a lot of boxes

For the Giants. Size, speed, production,in a position of need while being one of the cleanest players in this draft. Defensive end is an impact position in the league. I believe there is little chance that the Giants would select Nelson over Chubb.

Yes he does -- and Gettleman loves him some Defensive linemen -- there is a real correlation between the loss of JPP and the possible pick of Chubb -- I would not be so fast to dismiss this idea

Not sure which games you watched. I watched about 5 games of his last year and he was wreaking havoc in every game. Constantly in the backfield and causing problems. The guy is a force. You dont get talked about as a perennial Top 5 pick by EVERY analyst if you do zero in college games.
And for all of those
gmen9892 : 4/10/2018 10:44 am : link
Who think he is going to be an edge rusher, he is not that. He will play the DE spot in a 3-4 scheme, much like Cameron Heyward on the Steelers. I would sign up for a force like that against both the run and the pass.

Stunk the last two years we haven’t scored more then 30 points in a game since week 15 of the 2015 season it completely baffles me how people want to pass on Barkley and Nelson and take Chubb, fix this broken offense something the last regime ignored

To rid themselves of his contract in 2019 and 2020.

The fact they got a 3rd round pick (no. 69 overall) for JPP is amazing to me.

My concerns exactly. We'd have 2 guys used to playing with a hand on the ground playing in space. That is why I don't think Chubb is the guy, but I guess you could move him around, play him at DE some downs, OLB others.

That said, what I really like about him is his work ethic. He practices and plays hard.

Torrag : 4/10/2018 4:47 pm : link
...exactly. It's not his talent at issue but square peg round hole won't maximize that talent.
