Why wasn't Webb @ Eli's Duke workout?

MTN-G-man : 4/10/2018 9:22 am
Thinking back to Eli's conference call transcript, he mentioned that he would have liked to have invited more receivers but he was the only QB. Webb would have benefitted from being there. Does anyone know if Eli is always the only QB at his Duke workouts?
Its been reported

That Webb has been in the NY/NJ area working out daily
No backup QBs have ever attended

Can't imagine Eli would start now that his job is in jeopardy (not a cut on Eli)

Letting the air out of Rosen, Darnold, and Mayfield's tires during their visits.
Just as Ron Mexico mentioned.

It is Eli's workout. It isn't the Manning passing academy. Eli invites and pays for the receivers to be there. He is not going to pay for other QBs to take some reps on his dime.

People need to forget about the notion that Eli is here to mentor players. It isn't his job, and it isn't in his best interest to assist another player to take his job. While he has shown a willingness to work with Webb, let's not make it as part of Eli's job description. When Eli and Webb are watching film this off-season of Minnesota's offense, it isn't to help Webb learn how to watch tape. It just so happens that they have a shared interest in learning an offense that they will be tasked with running.

Just yesterday in Eli's transcript, he mentioned that he looks forward to working with OBJ for years to come. DG and Shurmur have alluded to the notion that they think Eli has years of good football in him. None of the talk from either side feeds into the idea that the Giants or Eli are preparing to move on.

is just another way Eli can undermine Webb.

Webb showed up at the practice bubble in shorts and ready to sling and none of his WR's were around to help a brother out!!

Exactly... Webb is actually the perfect backup because he is a high ceiling high floor quarterback prospect... Meaning, there is both a "comfortable patience" in terms of grooming him as Eli's backup as well as the locker room clarity that Eli is the quarterback and leader of this team for the next two years...

reads BBI, and saw all the threads about how awesome Webb was and he is terrified to lose his job if the receivers all come back into camp talking about how much better Webb is than him?

Eli has likely read about how Webb would be a top-10 pick in every NFL draft with the exception of the draft he was actually in.

The only thing I would commit to Eli Is he gets to start the season off as the starter thatís it, if he plays bad and team starts off 0-2 0-3 Iím pulling Eli for whoever is ahead Webb or Rosen letís say....... please donít tell me Eli is guaranteed to start the whole season and can not be pulled .....After all this team was 3-13 last season and you all know the other won loss numbers over the last 6 years Eliís fault or not .......This TEAM needs to start the culture of winning or the bags over the head come next.......

High ceiling, high floor QBs don't last until the 3rd round of the NFL draft. That may be your opinion of Webb, but it is clearly contrary to the bulk of professionals who get paid to do this.

And that is fair. If Webb or the assumed draft pick is better than Eli, than by all means. I wouldn't make that assumption. By laying out a losing scenario, I hope you are open to a winning scenario. With actual adults running the show, if Eli along with a decent OL and healthy WRs produce a winning season (playoffs in this scenario), do you support the organization recommitting to Eli? At the end of this season, he would have 1 year remaining on his contract. If the winning scenario plays out, DG along with Shurmur might decide that a winning future includes Eli and extends him for 2 years similar to Brees' latest extension. Or are you at a replace Eli at all costs position?
New offense, New defense will lead to a slow start.

I will be happy with a 3-3 record and Eli will be the QB.
Here is a quote from Eli
Beer Man : 4/10/2018 1:20 pm : link
Quote:
ďDavis has done a good job. Last year coming in and learning an offense and now coming in, and trying to get a new offense and just trying to get a head start watching film. He's been here a bunch in the offseason; we've watched film together of Minnesota (where Shurmur was the offensive coordinator last season) film, just trying to learn the offense. You're limited in the discussions you can have with coaches and this and that, so you're trying to kind of figure out things on your own a little bit. But he's done a good job, having questions, asking things and just trying to be as prepared as possible when these first meetings and practices happen.Ē

Of course it is a non-professional opinion - which is about 95% of the banter on this site... but like Reese, I too was surprised that he lasted until the third round last year and therefore thought it was a smart pick given the developmental runway that he needs and the luxury of time that we have with Eli. I completely understand the disagreement with this opinion - it is why there is a total lack of consensus on Webb on this site...

Great retort diver down ...... actually Iím in favor of Eli starting the year off as the starter heís earned that of course and I hope and I think heís going to do well because I think heís embarrassed by all that happened and has a lot to prove I mean itís quite possible with a line and good defense Eli could have a banner year..... Iím just pointing out what could or should happen if things go bad ..... Iím the eternal pessimist maybe thatís why Iím on my third wife LOL 😝 BUT I still think they should draft a QB at #2 and my man is Mayfield but I donít think Giants will pull the trigger so therefore Iím Rosen first Darnold second choice guy.......
