Lots of unhappy campers here. Except me, a Roma fan!
Who the hell is Firmino's dentist?

Raheem leaves for Man City to win trophies, Phil goes to Barca to win trophies. Meanwhile their old club moves to the Semis while they both go home.
I was so nervous when this game began
scouser : 4/10/2018 5:55 pm : link
Then City scores. I was not very happy. Talk about being tight. I was more nervous than a virgin on her wedding night. But they came through. Firmino scores a record tying 9th goal and Liverpool breaks ManU's scoring record. Now it's time for a little Ballantine's 17 year old. Lovely stuff. Up the Reds.

Well, both of their teams are going to win the EPL and La Liga, respectively. Basically guaranteed trophies right now... ;)

Raheem is about to win a trophy.
Your winning Roma goal scored by Kostas Manolas
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 4/10/2018 7:47 pm : link
Best center back you've never heard of. Pretty sure Chelsea regrets taking Rudiger and not spending the extra money on #44.

Funny how things work out - was just remarking over the weekend how disinterested Manolas looks in Serie A compared to when he plays in the Champions League and definitely for the Greek National Team. Lo and behold, he scores and shuts out Barca.
Liverpool's back 4 won this quarterfinal with City
dpinzow : 4/10/2018 8:50 pm : link
Lovren was immense tonight and has grown in confidence with VVD's arrival. Trent Alexander-Arnold was the best player on the pitch in the first leg and Andrew Robertson, the Scottish left back bought for 8 million pounds, didn't put a foot wrong against Sterling tonight

With Pep even coming out and saying they are the Tottenham Harry Kane's, well the same can be said about this Liverpool team with Salah. He's carried them this season.

As someone who watches a lot of Spurs, I could very easily make the argument that Eriksen is actually their MVP.
Ericksen is a terrific player....
bw in dc : 4/10/2018 10:52 pm : link
The guy can deliver the ball on a dime and a very dangerous free kick guy.

Very enjoyable to watch.
Pochettino is the most valuable person at Spurs imo
moespree : 4/10/2018 11:45 pm : link
He leaves they will fall apart because their best players will want to go. As for today, I am glad. I really dislike Pep. He is good but I do wonder how good. He's lost some pretty big and important matches in his career. His away record in big matches is not good. In fact it sucks. And today at home. Pep has lost more home games in the last 6 weeks than Mourinho has lost at home in the last 2 years.

Raheem just got tossed by the club he left, you think he's tickled to win the EPL when his old club has a chance to take home UEFA glory? And Phil had NOTHING to do with a La Liga title and his team just shat itself out of UEFA. Good choices by both of those cowards, why fight to win when you can capitulate and earn nothing? They are both what is wrong with sports and both are licking their wounds and consoling themselves with bullshit domestic trophies. I want a club shooting for Europe and leaving nothing on the pitch than a couple of little whiny cunts who don't have the courage to stand and deliver. Yes I love Edward James Olmos, you rat finks. :)

Winning the league is still a great accomplishment and Raheem has had a fantastic season for one of the great sides in recent EPL history. (Only makes what Liverpool did the them all the more impressive).

Plus who knows if Salah is there if they still have Sterling. It worked out well for both sides.

My heart is beating so fast. Wow. Benatia's physical play finally let Juve down. Juve fans are probably wishing he would have been sent off like he should have been.

He made contact with the ref multiple times. Cristiano got a red and a 5 game suspension for making contact with an official. Doesn't matter though. God wasn't saving that Cristiano penalty.
Juventus was stunningly good...

What a great effort.

Hate to see a game end that way.

A loss by RM would have been incredible set back for La Liga having both iconic teams succumb to historic comebacks...

Agree with RM flopping criticism. But, at the time I thought he fell
Heisenberg : 4/11/2018 4:48 pm : link
forward with a speed that could only happen by being clobbered from behind and that's what it was on replay. It didn't look to me like he went to ground. He had the ball in front of him and wanted to score and got hammered from behind.

Giving up 3 goal advantages heading into the second leg.

Yeah there's no way it would be a setback

I heard a stat recently that I can't remember perfectly, but La Liga has won something like 27 of the last 35 European trophies.

I know people like the EPL, and I'd agree that league has mastered how the product is presented in terms of the quality of the stadia and on TV. But in terms of the quality of the football, La Liga is ahead of everyone by quite a bit.

Yeah I understand that, but how would it be a set back for La Liga? It would have sucked, but I don't think a set back for an entire league. Especially one that had 3 teams in the quarterfinals. Real Madrid has won more UCL in the last 4 years then most teams have in their history. Also La Liga teams have won 4 straight.
I think Bayern

I don't think that's a penalty. I don't necessarily think it's a dive, but in that kind of situation I'd rather the ref swallow his whistle. It's a contact sport.

I don't see it that way - I don't think anyone really knows how good Bayern actually is. Bundesliga is weak this year and they've gotten a pretty clean trip to the semis. Roster is stacked but they still need the 30 year olds to get the job done.
Oliver is a good official
moespree : 4/11/2018 10:32 pm : link
I think it was a good call personally, and I commend him for having the balls to call it in that spot. Buffon's post match argument of a ref can't ruin a game that was played so hard, is stupid. What's the ref supposed to do? Hey I think that was a penalty but because you played so hard today I'm not going to call it?

Juventus is a tough, experienced team. I'm surprised they did as well as they did today actually, but they're a tough out.

cosmicj : 4/12/2018 12:31 pm : link
I agree. Lucas was mugged and I actually think Benatia should have been given a yellow at the least for what he did. On a human level, I can't really blame Buffon for losing his mind at the call, but in terms of officiating, the fact that he was showing the official made ejection necessary.
Now on to the real matters at hand:
cosmicj : 4/12/2018 12:32 pm : link
1) Should Cristiano have taken off his shirt after the pentlty kick?

2) Can anyone really beat Real? I like their odds to win a third straight European title. I will say that Boateng's return has made the Bayern defense absolutely suffocating. Maybe they can pull it off.

Gonna be very tough to beat Real. I actually think the one team that can do it is Liverpool.

Real has a weak link in a really bad spot: Casemiro. Considering the attacking talent around him he can stupidly get caught way up field, and he can be prone to a bad decision when he's in possession in the midfield. That's a bad mix against a team that presses as high and as vigorously as Liverpool.

Real is the heavy favorite, but I'd be interested to see them at Anfield. They're not as defensively sound as Man City is.
I think Liverpool can beat them
moespree : 4/12/2018 12:45 pm : link
Madrid showed some vulnerability handling the pressing of Tottenham in the group stages. Klopp doesn't press exactly the same way as Pochettino but it's not far off either. Madrid was not used to that and it showed. Their defenders in particular when on the ball and being pressed had difficulty getting the ball up to the midfielders. But of course the group stages are different than where we are now.

I'd say another thing going for Liverpool is they can score anywhere. It will not be easy to shut them down in the away leg. I don't know how many they can score at Madrid, but score there I think they can and would.
The thing with Madrid, though,
Go Terps : 4/12/2018 1:02 pm : link
is that you have to be on for 90 minutes with them (or 180 over two legs). They've got more talent and depth than any team in the world, and about 10-15 players that can provide a moment of genius that results in a goal against the run of play. They come at you in waves...it's like the Giants' defensive line in 2007. They are no fun to play against.
How much is Madrid going to offer for De Gea?
