NFT: RE: Long Island Travel recommendations?

rasbutant : 4/10/2018 3:02 pm
I will be on Long Island (Brookhaven) for two weeks for work.

Project manager just booked us at the Hilton Garden Inn in Ronkonkoma, NY.

Mostly looking for Restaurant recommendations as that is pretty much all there will be time for, and we will be looking for a new place every night. But we will also be there over the weekend if you have a recommendation for things to see/do.

Thanks in advance.
Italian...

where you are talking and for the life of me I can't think of one great thing to do here.

As far as restaurants, You have in Tellers in Islip. Very good, but very expensive. http://tellerschophouse.com/

Crickets in Sayille. My wife go there just about every Saturday for lunch. http://www.cricketssayville.com/Crickets/

If I think of anything else I will let you know.

If you arenít looking to travel too far...

Mama Lombardiís is great for Italian food.

If you are willing to venture out a little bit, as the poster said above, Tellers is great and there a few restaurants on the South Shore on the water, Lombardiís on the bay in Patchogue that has some great views.

It looks like you are staying right off the LIE

A couple of exits heading west (Exit 56 I think?) is Paces which is a great steakhouse in Hauppauge. It really depends on what you are looking for.

Right next to Paces in the shopping center is Kotobuki if you are looking Sushi. Unfortunately, they donít take reservations, so you might have to wait depending on what time you go.

I believe he is staying on Vets Highway

Which is pretty good. 5-10 minutes from the airport. Right outside the Airport is an Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza. That is right on Vets Hwy.

Thanks guys, keep them comiing

We are there for two weeks so about 13 meals! Can't eat Italian every night!

Mixed fare is usually best as there are 3 of us from work going, and i don't know everyone's taste. I tend to like the brewery's and local organic fare type places, but lots of the guys i work with only want applebee's type. Something where they know what to expect.
Oh and they don't all have to be 5 star restuarants
rasbutant : 4/10/2018 4:26 pm : link
A good food truck meal, if good, can be just what we need some nights.

Any local specialties, If i was in Maryland I'd seek out crabcakes, or Rochester I'd look for the best Beef on Weck, or Tampa the best Cuban Sandwich etc...
Best pizza on the Island, IMHO,....

..... is a 20-minute drive East. Emilio's in Commack.
For breakfast

Go to Maureen's Kitchen in Smithtown, just off Route 347. You will wait, and the wait will be worth it.
Sorry. West.

20 minutes West. Brain fart.
I live in Ronkonkoma

Some local places I like alot:

Karvers in Holbrook (Probably my favorite place for good beer / pub type food).

Insignia in Smithtown (Awesome) - Steakhouse / Sushi

Flanigans in Ronkonkoma (See Karvers above but a small step down).

Stella's in Blue Point - Italian

Alot of places in Patchogue if you feel like driving 10 minutes - Perabell, Brickhouse Brewery, Harbor Crab for seafood and water views, etc.

with some nice weather coming finally

drive out east if you have the time. Some of the country's most beautiful beaches
I recommend
bigdogvic : 4/10/2018 5:37 pm : link
Flanagan's in Lake Ronkonkoma, it's my home away from home.
Smokey Bones is a big step up from Applebees.
Mexican Viva La Vida in Oakdale is great.
360 Sushi in Patchogue.....actually plenty of bar types and different variety if willing to take a 15 minute ride into Patchogue.

If you like breweries...try Brickhous Brewery on Main Street in Patchogue. Plus the food is pretty good. If itís still on tap, street light is a good ale.

Absolutely a must if you can do it...only open during breakfast/lunch time...but be aware this is a cash only establishment.
Lots of good places in Patchogue

Brickhouse Brewery (as previously mentioned), Bobbique (which is right across the street from Brickhouse and specializes in BBQ), and Reese's 1900 (Irish pub).
