Could the Giants go QB in the 2nd or 3rd round??

I don't see it though. I like Lauletta, but his lack of arm strength is a huge concern. Very smart kid though. He could be successful, but I don't see the point in waiting when you basically have your choice of all the top QBs.

when he said he would leave no stone unturned. he obviously has been doing lots of work on the top guys, and we have heard of them also doing their homework on guys like Rudolph and Lauletta

Absolutely. QB trumps everything so if there is a guy you love them take him even if he isn't rated as highly. However, I agree that the top of the second is going to give us some really good value along the OL. I am very intrigued by McGlinchy if he happens to fall. He can be our new McKenzie at RT. But it isn't just him. Sy loves Braden Smith who has flexibility at G and RT. Price has flexibility at G and C.

I also wouldn't be surprised ro see the Pats take one kf these QBs at 31. They have a plethora of picks again but if they wait until the second (do they have 43 and 63?) then everybody knows they'll be going QB and a team will surley take their QB thinking that he'll never get past the Pats at that point in the draft. Plus, you get that 5th year option with taking a guy in the first and I'd bet that'd have a lot of value to the Pats because they don't know if Brady will play for 1 or 4 more years.

I think it would be 1st round or bust but next year is a different story. We just drafted a guy last year that it sounds like we are high on (how high is debatable). I think it makes sense to give him a year as the primary back up to see how he progresses. Depending on how he progresses and how Eli is doing you can grab another guy next year in rounds 2 or 3.

If we trade down next this year, my direction would change a little. I would continually flip the picks you got in a trade for a future #1 until Webb proves that he is the guy. If he fails, you would have 2 1's to move up/spend on a QB.

The hit rate on QBs drafted after the first round goes down considerably.

They'll take a fresh look at these guys and if there's someone they like a lot, they'll go for him.

why would they? Too many holes to fill elsewhere.

Never say never I guess, but if the Giants are going QB at the top of RD 2, then they're admitting they have a big need at QB. And if they have a big need at QB, then why didn't they pick one of the top QBs at 2 instead of selecting from the bargain bin in RDs 2 or 3?

Yeah, if they go Chubb/Barkley or trade in Rd #1 than QB Rd #2...

it would make sense to hold Webb and get another candidate and let them battle it out. Two lottery tickets are better than one, so to speak.

If they think that one of the QBs is a blue chipper then I hope they pick him.

If the Giants do not go QB in the first, then they likely have confidence that Webb can be that guy.

The only caveat to this would be if a player that they covet drops.

If they really like Jackson or Rudolph and one of them is available in the second round.

The Giants need to win now with Eli and draft the best players available at every position in the draft to fully support this objective. Davis Webb is an adequate backup and will hopefully develop to the level where he can become Eli's successor in several years.

The draft not only serves as a way to enhance the team with the very best players available, but it is also the first step in the execution of team strategy. Meaning, it is virtually impossible to achieve "win now with Eli" but then use a prime asset to acquire the guy who will replace him rather than support/help him... It becomes self-fulfilling immediately that we are rebuilding and will not win now.

I get that "can we win now with Eli?" is the primary question we are all debating, but it is certain that we can't win now without him...

How often are they going to have the #2 pick in a draft where many believe 4 quarterbacks will be taken in the tomorrow 10 picks.

Seems to me, if they feel the need to draft a quarterback, they should use that pick to do so.

Grab one at 2, trade as many picks as you need to to trade back into the first round and grab which ever one falls. Start a rumor to make one fall is even batter. Oil them up, put them in American flag G strings and throw them into a cage match with no rules. Who ever wins gets the starting nod, Eli can be the referee. Sell on it pay per view.
