Trading Back Question...

Capt. Don : 4/11/2018 8:12 am
In the event that a team trades back only a couple of spots is there a gentleman's agreement that the team moving up will take a certain player? Is it more formal than that?

So it became known that the Broncos wanted our #2 could we say to the Jets, give us your 1st and 3rd as long as you dont take player X?

Im not sure how anyone on this board would know that, just curious.
No one knows for certain how a deal like that would work.

I'm sure there are gentlemen agreements, but nothing binding. If one of the parties to the agreement reneges on the terms, they would do so at their own risk of doing future business with that club.
How does that help?

there are 2 other picks before 5.

Thread for it... so I’ll post it here...

When we made the trade for Eli Manning, I remember someone telling the story, maybe Ernie Accorsi, that the Chargers had to take a player at 4 before the trade could go through...

Like, we couldn’t trade picks for drafted player... it seemed like it had to be drafted player for drafted player...

Is this the case?
The interesting thing about the Eli trade was the Giants could have

traded down one or two spots and picked up a second round pick which might have helped pay the bill for Eli. Of course there were two problems with that. They would risk losing Rivers who they needed to complete the trade. It really looked like they could pull it off though but than San Diego may have demanded more in the trade.
I still think that was borderline illegal

Because you are not allowed to draft for another team

But understandably their are gray areas....
Agree to draft the QB Buffalo wants

And they draft Vea and trade. Better than straight up trading picks and possibly getting jumped.
