NFT: NBA thread: Play-in game tonight then playoffs

dep026 : 4/11/2018 9:06 am
Wolves and Nuggets play to see who is in and who is out. I believe if Minny wins, they are the 7th seed and Denver the 8th seed if they are too win.

- Golden State has looked like trash since Curry got hurt.
- 76ers are rolling
- Lebron looking to play 82 games for 1st time in his career tonight.
- Whoever Dallas had playing for them last night looked like rec team from the YMCA.

Seeding still up for grabs in the west. But if Minny wins (this is by most likely scenario):
Houston vs. Pelicans - would have been fun to see Boogie in this series.
Minny vs. Golden State - With no Curry, this could be a 7 game slugfest.

I don't think GS wants to face MIN round 1 and then Utah round 2.

I said this yesterday, but I wish the Wolves Nuggets game was on ESPN, TNT, or NBA TV. I'll probably watch NBA TV for live cut ins.

I can't wait for the playoffs to tip off on Saturday.
I think Warriors are playing possum a bit

I think this is Houston's year, and it'll be more of a struggle in general without Curry, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Warriors cruise through the couple rounds. Cavs looked like trash down the stretch last year and then suddenly no one in the East could beat them, as usual.
first couple rounds, that is

GS Minnesota would be interesting.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 4/11/2018 10:04 am : link
Of course I expect the Warriors to win, but Minny has enough talent to give GS a scare.
As a GS fan, I'd gladly take the Wolves round 1
DieHard : 4/11/2018 10:07 am : link
Other teams in the mix can get streaky hot, but you know what you get with the Wolves. Plus Thibs has run his players into the ground as usual, which should help. ;-)
I'm rooting for the Cavs to end up with the 3 seed
Ceez2.0 : 4/11/2018 10:51 am : link
so they end up playing the heat in the first round. It would bring me immense joy seeing the Heat fan base suffer at the hands of Lebron.

Why wouldn't you want any other team besides MIN? MIN is a 3 seed that will be slotted into the 7th seed (if they win tonight) because Butler missed a month. San Antonio and NO would be easy sweeps even without Curry.
Also huge games for lottery positions tonight

San Antonio or New Orleans in round 1. The Warriors are going to be short-handed even aside from Curry -- no McCaw, a hampered Iguodala, and Durant and/or Green being ejected for at least a game's worth of playing time.

Cp3 has never been to a conference final, that is failure especially when you had Blake griffin and DeAndre jordan that is failure

That's not all on him. I'm not going to say he hasn't looked spotty at times in the postseason. He just hasn't been the abject failure some have made him out to be. If this Rockets team doesn't make the WCF, we can revise that. Anything less than that would be a massive disappointment for Houston.

He was the best player on the team of course it is on him.

If melons is a failure in the playoffs then so is Chris paul
Well, to be fair,

the Western Conference was/is a behemoth. I don't think any of those Clippers teams were a top 3 seed. It's not like those Clips teams were winning 65 games & the clear cut favorites any of those years.

They were up 3-1 to the rockets and lost...

So again is melo a failure in the playoffs?

Yeah as a Melo fan I can't say with a straight face that Melo is comparable to CP3. CP3 is older and right now their careers couldn't be more distinctly apart from each other. CP3 is flourishing as a 2nd option, which he never was in his career, nor has he played with an MVP before. Melo looks worse with good talent.

Lets see this year and then make claims on Harden/CP3.
I never claimed Melo to be a failure

Technically no because he was part of the Sixers last year
GS is praying for a Nuggets win

they want no pat of DRose and Minny. DRose always lights GS up and he doesnt have to worry about guarding Curry either.

By his shirt's definition, no, Simmons wouldn't be a rookie. By NBA rules he is. I don't think Mitchell or anyone is trying to make a case against Simmons. Was just a pretty funny way to jab back after Simmons showed zero respect for any other rookie in this class.
I understand why the players care

But considering Brogdon, Wiggins and MCW were 3 of the last 4 winners Im not sure why fans care so much

play. I get the argument that even though he didn't get on the court, he was able to get all the benefits of being a pro. I get that.

But even that said, I'd still give it to Simmons. He's had a better season than Mitchell.

this is without a doubt one of the deepest, most talented drafts to hit the NBA in a long time.

Mitchell, Fultz, Lonzo, Tatum, Smith Jr, Kuzma (steal of the draft), Collins, Bell, Fox, I'm missing others...

I mean I think everyone will give it to Simmons. The argument that people are having isn't who had the better season. It's why do we consider players who have the advantage of a full season of professional training, nutrition, film study, practice, schedule, etc a rookie. Baseball makes it even weirder. The NFL doesn't.

I'd give it to Simmons as well, but its a close ass race as I've seen. A lot of the arguments work in their favors.

Without Embiid this year, the Sixers are 10-8. 7 of those are on this current streak, were they won games against Atlanta twice, BKN, Dallas, Detroit and Charlotte.

Without Gobert, Utah went 11-15.

Edge goes to Simmons, but schedule factors and make this close. But you can argue that despite Gobert missing 12 more games than Embiid, Utah is going to still get the 3rd seed in the harder conference. I wouldn't say Mitchell is more important than Gobert just yet, but I think it can be argued he's more important to Utah than Simmons is to Philly. The Sixers had some crazy good record when Embiid played last year without Simmons.

I give the award to Simmons because I'd rather have Simmons long term than Mitchell, but not really because his season has been significantly better than Mitchell's. It hasn't. These are two historically good rookies.
