Do the visits/meetings/etc. tell us anything?

robbieballs2003 : 4/11/2018 2:55 pm
I am asking this because it seems like we have met with a high number of running backs projected to go in all rounds. Would this hint that maybe Barkley will not be the pick? Yes, we have looked at a lot of QBs. I just think that is part of the job.

So, why are we looking at so many RBs? Is there a chance we take 2? I think that is possible but probably unlikely due to our many needs. Does it hint at a possible trade down?

I'm just curious to what you guys think?
Is there a limit on the amount of players you can meet with?

There is a limit on players you can bring to your facility. I don't know if there is a limit at the combine but time restricts how many kids you can meet with.
Ok I remember now

There is a limit, but players who live or are from the area would not count against the number you are allotted to bring into your facility. If there is no limit if you actually go out and meet with these guys, then see as many as you can. Atleast it sends out enough signals that no team would have a clue on who or what positions you might be targeting.

I heard along time ago it is 30, the exception being local candidates. But I never validated it.
Don’t read too much into it

Teams meet with players for a variety of reasons. It’s no secret NYG would love to upgrade RB, but you can say the same for a number of positions. It’s a deep class and there is a need, so the interest is no surprise.

Looking at a lot of RBs could the result of the need, which certainly doesn’t hurt Barkley’s chances any. Or it could be coincidence and a lot of players st the position require vetting. Or a mixture of both.

Don’t read too much into it. There are no clues to be found here.
It means they have an interest in the player but . . . .

want more information. Nothing else. They're doing due diligence and trying to prepare for many alternatives. In the past they have also been reported to have met with a disproportionate number of prospects from one position, and then drafted NO ONE for that position.

That not withstanding, I'm intrigued that a surprising percentage of RB's they've been reported to have met with look like late round or UDFA prospects. Suggests to me that they're interested in getting in some RB's they can look at in camp without having to spend much in the way of a draft pick. There's going to be RB talent in this draft that doesn't get drafted, and if they can get a guy in camp like Chase Edmonds or Philip Lindsay, both of whom they've met with, without spending a pick, they could wind up with a cheap get.
