Much needed win. Happy to also see Boone get pissed off during the brawl. The nice guy thing is great and all, but this team showed some much needed moxie tonight.
things up instead of dropping guys. Watching Judge shoving about 5 guys at once back to the dugout was hilarious.
Even my Sox fans buddies I was texting with, who took an obviously Boston colored view of the affair, were essentially saying thank god Judge decided to play peacemaker, bc he was right in position to start wrecking guys
RE: The Sawx were just lucky that Judge and Stanton were trying to break Â

I don't want Judge "wrecking guys" in a brawl and getting hurt though. This isn't hockey where you can throw goons out there. Judge is too valuable a player
He's a guy throwing 100 and missed with the first beanball, then hit Austin with the second beanball. No place for a pitcher throwing that hard to intentionally try and injure a hitter. Now if he got him with the first attempt, I think that's within normal baseball back and forth. The fact that he kept on trying to plunk Austin is really bad

was they showed the slide from Austin's perspective and he appeared to be trying to break up the DP, and Holt didn't stretch for the ball until the slide had already started, meaning that Austin didn't know Holt was just conceding the one out.
So Harold Reynolds says that Austin at that point thinks he's just trying to disrupt the possible DP. Then 2 minutes later after Pedro said he was fine with Austin getting beaned, Reynolds agreed.
dirt.
*fuck the Red Sox. That was whiny bullshit on the slide, and plugging Austin for doing nothing wong was bush league
*Judge smoking while still getting fucked on low pitches.
*Sawx are lucky that Judge is a mild mannered guy and acted as a peace maker.
*Welcome back El Gary! Looked like a completely different guy at the plate. last night.
with a second attempt at a fastball in the back a few innings after the slide occurred.
Like I said earlier - when you're trying to spike a player, you forcefully jam them into a meaty part or shin of a stationary leg. You don't make incidental contact with an ankle.

Haha if that was a real fight with Judge/Stanton/Betances/Chapman involved vs. the little prick midgets it would have been about as close as Custer at Little Big Horn...
If Didi got hit with that slide, I wouldn’t be up in arms about it, but I’d be thrilled to see Kahnle plant one in the guy’s back.
I have a hard time getting upset about the fact that it was a couple innings later or that it took a second pitch because Kelly seemingly didn’t commit to the first one. Maybe that’s just me.
I don’t like that the Yankees have always seemed to be on the receiving end of the HBP situations for some years, but I blame a lot of that on Girardi tolerating it for too long.
a borderline strike 3 is called, they always say something.
Meanwhile, Judge goes back to the dugout. Maybe he needs to start acting like more of an ass
Last year that was on Joe and he never said anything. This year its on Boone. He needs to speak up at post game pressers the way Pat Riley used to. The amount of absolutely ridiculous strike 3 calls Judge has gotten over the past 2 season needs to be addressed.

Yep, that was not a Ty Cobb slide. If Holt doesn't like it, he can get his ass off the bag a little quicker next time. Also if he doesn't like cleats getting stuck in his pants, he can wear them like they are supposed to be worn with the stirrup socks exposed....(ha ha ha)

Reasonable post. I didn’t see it, but apparently Kelly yelled “come on!” to Austin after he hit him...so nobody should have any gripe about Austin going after him.
I also don’t get Pedro’s point about how they should have done it in the next AB. Pedro should keep himself busy tutoring Severino in the offseason and sitting under his mango tree

Torre too. 23 yrs of turning the other cheek, putting our hitters in danger, putting no fear in the opponents at the plate.
for the league to allow those low and outside pitches to be called strikes. He is smart to just walk away and let the office handle it behind the scene. Eventually that pitch will stop being called.

Yeah I hope in time he’ll earn more respect by umps, especially since he doesn’t show them up by complaining.
But I also agree Boone needs to start a drumbeat or pointing it out publicly
btw, nice Al Czervik "00H my arm! I think its broken!" Â
pitches off the plate or low called strikes than Judge. I get it. He's huge and he never complains. I figured at some point it would get better. It's not getting better. Of course i'm so bias watching his AB's I don't know if that's really true. Does anyone know if one of the sabr sites has info on the percentage of called strikes against that were out of the zone? I bet it's way more than any hitter in MLB.
I can see it from both sides in this instance. I didn't think the slide was that bad but it was spikes up. And if the roles were reversed and it was done to Didi, I wouldn't like it and would be ok putting one in their back.
Kelly did it right, he didn't go up around the head. And he stood his ground and didn't run away throwing his glove like the San Diego pitcher yesterday. You could even see him say "come on" to Austin, telling him to come out to fight. I hate that team, but I can at least respect that from Kelly.
All of that said, I'm proud of our guys for not taking any crap from them. This went on for too long under Torre with no response. I appreciate this group standing up for themselves and I hope it brings them together. Finishing off that win was a great step in that direction.
Also love seeing Judge and Stanton get right in the middle of it to protect their guys. Good job all around. Let's take the series tonight. It's going to be a fun season
don't even have a problem with the retaliation per say, but how many shots does it take to beam a guy? Kelly is a dick, and sucks, and should have quit after it didn't work the first time.
You get one shot at a guy before it becomes horseshit. He took his first shot by trying to hit Austin with a slider so he could pretend that it was an accident, and missed.
Red Sox are way too sensitive about this stuff in general though. Last year Machado spiked Pedroia by accident, immediately apologized and made sure he was OK, and still got beaned repeatedly. If you hate the slightest bit of contact on the baseball field, there are plenty of golf courses around.
All this shit happens at Fenway too - they're not quite so bold in the Bronx.
The guys on MLB radio this morning were killing Kelly Â
I saw the video of Cora dismissing Nevin by waiving his hand and drawing a box in the air as if to say: "Go back to your measly coaches box, Nevin! I am the great Cora, manager of the Boston Red Sox!" Like Cora is some long time established, successful manager and Nevin is just a lowly 3rd base coach. What a dick! Cora has been a MLB manager for about 5 minutes! Also, what does that say to the Red Sox coaches if their "manager" thinks he is so above them and that they are just lowly coaches. Nice way to manage people, stupid!
And a fuck you fast ball by Chapman.
He'll get two games Greg. Well worth it. Fuck those assholes. Kelly gets one.
If he really was going for a dirty play, he'd have done the now illegal takeout slide.
Austin earned a spot on the playoff roster today
Austin earned a spot on the playoff roster today
Agreed. Big game for many reasons.
Joe Kelly threw at Austin twice...unwritten rule of baseball, you only get one shot to plunk a guy you want to hit
Had to turn those idiots off. Pedro and Harold Reynolds rambling on about what a good job Kelly did hitting “the kid”
Even my Sox fans buddies I was texting with, who took an obviously Boston colored view of the affair, were essentially saying thank god Judge decided to play peacemaker, bc he was right in position to start wrecking guys
Judge and Stanton were pushing the whole Red Sox pile. It was pretty hilarious. Lucky no one got hurt in that scrum.

Nobody said they did want Judge wrecking guys

Slide did look ok.
Kelly sucks that's why he needs 2 shots.
Don't want him suspended at all. He hurts Sox more than helps them when he's active.
...Austin getting drilled was it.
Also admits he was scared of Judge and Stanton. Lol

Legal but aggressive slide, studs-up repaid with a fastball around the middle of the back.
I have no issue with either side. There was no head-hunting or any bullshit like that.
Play ball.

I really admire how Judge doesn't say a word. That takes a lot of self-control because he certainly knows they are terrible pitches.
Like you said - Boone needs to start working the mic.

Yeah, the sensation that he was getting shellacked. At least Severino stayed in the game and tried, gave the Yanks 5 innings and didn't kill the pen.

Best wisecrack I've seen around here in a while!
All this shit happens at Fenway too - they're not quite so bold in the Bronx.
But whatever, in with the crowd, Kelly didn’t head hunt and Austin stood up for himself. It’s a wash and it should be over
Until, of course, someone on the Sox takes another shot at a Yankee
