Walter Football said that someone told him on Facebook (legit?) that the Broncos and Giants would swap first round picks and CJ Anderson and other draft picks would be going to the Giants.
come out of nowhere. Like the JPP trade...no one had any idea until it was over...like the Jets trade up to the colts pick...not one rumor.
I am just guessing and could be completely wrong, but usually trades that get rumored just don't seem to happen. If a trade happens the 1st time we will likely hear about it is after it has occurred.
Let's go back to the top five, because I got a tip from a Facebook friend I'll keep anonymous. He alerted me that the Giants and Broncos are discussing a trade. In this proposed transaction, Denver would move up to No. 2 to select Sam Darnold, while the Giants would slide down to take either Bradley Chubb or Quenton Nelson with the fifth-overall choice.
It remains to be seen if this trade will actually happen, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if this tip is true, and that Denver and New York have spoken about a deal. The Bills are the most popular team people are projecting to move up, but the quarterback-needy Broncos could do so as well.
So, what would a Giants-Broncos trade look like? Here it is:
Broncos acquire: Nos. 2 (2,600 points) overall = 2,600 points
Giants acquire: Nos. 5 (1,700 points), 40 (500 points), 71 (235 points), RB C.J. Anderson (~100 points) = 2,535 points
(see NFL Draft Trade Chart for point values)
In short, the Broncos are surrendering their second- and third-round picks, as well as C.J. Anderson (whom Denver wants to trade), to move up to No. 2.
"proposed" trade involves the Broncos giving us their second and third round picks and Anderson so they can trade up to take Darnold. Hell, no. That trade sucks - ( New Window )
If that's all they get, then stay and pick the QB. That extra 2nd and 3rd will look like garbage if the QB winds up being a franchise QB.

this can't be true because if it was true it would mean Gettleman is a fucking idiot... and I know that he is not so... not true.
Considering the Jets gave up pk 6 (1600 pts), pk 37 (530 pts) pk 49(410 pts) and a 2019 2nd rd pk, say worth 420 if picking 16th in the 2nd rd, that's 2960 pts for moving up 3 spots to pk 3 worth 2200. Give me that kind of value and we'll talk.

anybody moving up to #2 to get their franchise QB has to overpay what these pick valuation charts say. but anyway we need to draft one of those qbs
The Bills have the two firsts and a first next year makes the most sense.
but I would pass on all the offers to get a qb. QB is better than any haul we can get. There is no trade I would take. Grab Rosen and be done with it. The Jets beat guys are salivating over Rosen. Apparently Belichick wants him. But for some reason the best pure QB in the draft isn't good enough for us.
If it is true than the Giants are just listening. This is Denver's offer, doesn't mean the Giants are taking it.! If it is just an opening offer by Denver to feel out the Giants for what it will take, it makes sense.
Spoken with every team through the Bills at #12, and probably beyond about potential trades. For any trade to happen in the time allotted to the pick the groundwork has to have already been laid.
Look what happened in 2004. The chargers refused to talk ahead of time. Then after they picked manning it took until about 20 minutes AFTER the giants had to pick Rivers to finalize the deal.
These things take time, so smart GMs get everything ready ahead of time and then adjust in the heat of the moment.
At $4.5MM per year for the last two years of his contract... Â
...C.J. Anderson has little or no trade value. He's a decent player, but no team will pay up for the privilege of taking on that salary. Besides, the Giants are already paying Jonathan Stewart close to $4MM to be the veteran anchor in the RB rotation.
FWIW, Denver owns the 99th pick, which WF's own chart values at 104 points. That pick could replace the 100 points this silly analysis assigns to Anderson. Denver could still throw in Anderson as a sweetener; but the Giants can probably get a more talented back (e.g. Royce Freeman) at the bottom of round three and pay him peanuts for four years.
To Broncos for No. 5, No. 71 and 2019 first-rounder
The Broncos are loaded in this draft, with two picks each in the third, fourth and fifth rounds. If they're looking to move up for a specific quarterback and if they're willing to part with next year's first-rounder to do it, they can certainly find the right sweetener among their cache of 2018 picks to entice the Giants to take their offer. The Giants might not want to move too far down if they have their eye on a top non-QB prospect, so this trade would strike the perfect balance for them to still pick up a Saquon Barkley or Bradley Chubb.

There are so many really great options for the Giants this year, I really hope they don't f it up.
I believe the Broncos are the Giants best trading partner if the Giants don't want to pick a QB # 2 -- I also believe that Elway would move up to get a QB he liked -- and I also believe that Gettleman has the moxie to make a good deal with Elway that benefits the Giants.

I agree with you but would like to see DG talk to the Jets before dealing with Denver. I think he could the Jets to ante up their 2019 #1 plus whatever else he can get to swap places. I can see the Jets getting antsy if they think Denver would jump them, and swap picks with the Giants.
Then go for the trade back to #5 with Denver.

Not enamored with 2019 picks from Denver. The Broncos might be decent with Keenum at QB. If the Giants are trading for a 2019 first-rounder, there's an advantage to having it come from a team that figures to either throw their rookie QB into the fire right away, or fill the gap with a genuinely crappy vet. Denver's 2019 picks obviously have value, but less than, say, Buffalo's.
The only thing I know about Walter Football is they have the distinction of being in the bottom 5 for mock draft accuracy in 7 out of the last 10 years.
But I'd be happy with a deal for their 2018 1st & 2nd, and 2019 1st. The Giants would still be in position for one of the top impact players in this years draft, plus pickup two premium picks
If the Giants trade down with Denver, the #5 pick becomes very Â
Valuable if there is only one of the Big 4 QBs on the board or if the Browns trade out at #4 leaving Barkley available.
If the Giants don’t go for a QB, I still think a trade down to #5 and then to #12 is likely. Get a bunch of picks from Denver and a bunch more from Buffalo.
DG said don’t get cute and that certainly qualifies.
Agreed that nothing happens until the Giants are on the clock.
there will certainly be discussions before the Giants are on the clock.
You don't wait until draft day to make a major trade that leaves the other teams with hardly any time to pull a trigger.
Almost all first round trades have had discussions happening prior to draft night, even down to specific situations when the trade will be made or called off based on other team's actions.

Yup! Can't see why the media is making a big deal about this. Every team has talked about trading up and down to a number of different teams. It's meaningless.

I think that 2nd trade from #5 to #12 would fall under the DG category of "You don't want to get too cute".

Then again, could be the Broncos offered Anderson as part of a garage sale of picks/player...doesn't mean the Giants said yes.
Agreed. And if Darnold is available, my guess is that they will take him instead of trading the pick.
No interest in Anderson.
Giants need to have everything worked out with every potential trade partner when their 10 minutes starts.
