gotta run to work in a few, I got a new job so I can't post as actively during the morning and afternoon as I used to -- but I couldn't resist sharing that I may be leaning Vita Vea right now in the draft -- he is a Dave Gettleman type of player --- He's a massive man and he reminds me a lot of a young version of Snacks. 6'4" 347 lbs and he has an appetite for gobbling up linemen, RBs and QBs.
This guy can really move around -- he's very active and high motor -- and did I say massive -- what an impressive piece to add to the Giants defensive front he would be
It would make our Dline legendary again -- like old time legendary

that's what turns me on : ) good hard football

Woke up fully erect.
So Collins can play ILB behind....Vea
He's a target for the Skins at 13 too, so jumping in front of them to snag him and avoid having to deal with him for the next 13 years or so is an added bonus :)
Assuming of course we're in a 3-4....
I guess I thought one of our LB/DE guys may play more so with his hand in the dirt and drafting this guy may change that.
Not sure. If the run on QB's pans out then there's a decent chance he's there at 12, but certainly no guarantee. Most mocks have Washington taking him at 13. Personally I think he's a blue chip talent and him with Snacks and Tomlinson is an immediate identity for this Defense.
And yes there is a reason this prototype has evolved,
Not very specific in the trade details, and since I am really not studying this shit this year, its based on SY and BBI ChitChat mostly, although not entirely. ;-) :
1A. DL - Vea.
Create a dominant and variable front 3 unit that other teams need to account for uniquely.
1B. S - James.
Allows Collins to move to money backer. ILB Collins probably plays a bit deeper than a typical ILB, which allows your 'up safety' (Darian Thompson) a shorter or deeper zone, farther from the l.o.s with James as the enforcer / heavy hitter deep.
So the middle of your field is
Tomlinson/Harrison/Vea
.......Ogletree/Collins
....DT
..............James
---------
RD 2
2A. RB - Ron Jones.
Team needs legit RBS that can run inside and outside to set up the O.
2B. OL - Braden Smith
(thank you SY!)
RD 3
3A. OL - Will Richardson
(OT or I think great ORG) SY
3B. WR - Anthony Miller
Simply put, only draft wrs that can get separation and according to our SY this one can.
4. RB - Ito Smith
Runs outside and even inside a bit, will probably get nice and open when going to receive due to low center of gravity to cut sharply in and out of route cuts. Cutting with RBs ; not just when running with the ball, Produces as a football player. Outside runs, being to me, a major priority this year.
5. DT - Again !
Lowel Lotulele. Older brother played for DG? You cannot teach big.....loves football and has some movement skills inside, see Harrison, Damon, formerly a UDFA.
6. TE -
Dalton Smith. According to our SY, this kid can -block- already, which is getting rarer and rarer apparently, and would compliment E.E. once he gets integrated.
7. OL -
Timon Parris . With all offensive linesmen you're looking for decent if not better get-off, some good balance and left/right movement skills either pulling or zone type its a team / unit thing.
Harrison/Vea
Olb/Collins/olb
DT
James (or whomever, Adams)
And up to 4 corners. (Or leave ogletree in)
Being that you would have two legit DL sized olbs and 3 safety types on the field - any of whom can blitz . that opens up a shit ton of gap attack or pass rush options for betcher to play with on 3rd and long.
For this proposed defense they need a Watt type DE who goes 285 or above with a mean streak from Hell. These types of players are not as easily found as normal game changing 4-3, DE’s which you can normally find three to five each draft. Just consider that many felt JPP was not a good fit for this defense IMO a healthy motivated JPP was a perfect fit for this defense.
Now the Oliver belief that he can easily change position to OSLB/RDE is once again a high risk with little history of such a move working out with a DE with more than five years NFL experience. Let’s look at this most players last between 3-5 years in the NFL now you want to have a limited size player at the last stage of his career change positions does that make sense. Vernon does or had very good speed at one time but it’s still a massive change in position and responsibilities. This is one of the main reasons why I still believe most of the vet personnel on defense we have are not suited for this defense. You have Harrison for NT which most believe will not be a major problem. Everyone else will be changing positions and responsibilities along with the physical and mental knowledge. The 3-4, defense is a very difficult defense to learn and master requiring more than two to three years to gain personnel and defense consistency.
Just consider that this once ascending defense was literally exposed as nothing more than children among men in all areas. They will now be asked to learn everything new in a very limited amount of time and actual real time practice. Expect a very sound and mental beat down most game days while they learn how to play, communicate, learn and perform required responsibilities.
Read what Sy said about Vea.
