RIP MItzi Shore

Pauly's mom, but don't hold that against her. She was a lion of comedy in L.A., ran the Comedy Store, and gave shots to every young comic who came to LA. The comics who played there are too numerous to mention -- Letterman, Leno, Richie, Andy, Seinfeld, and on and on. All the comics we've known from the seventies on have played there.

She was tough but loved her guys and did anything for them. Paid the medical bills for a comic whose father was dying of cancer, lent money generously to comics and did everything she could to get them on Carson or gigs elsewhere.

Knew her pretty well -- babysat for her kids one night, Letterman was supposed to do it, but he got a gig and Mitzi had to go somewhere. Wasn't a comic myself, just wrote for comics and shows and she always asked me to come take a look at someone she thought was good. Most of the time she was right.

Following the death of Chuck Mccann, who I saw there many times, this is double tough hit in the my memories.

R.I.P Legend of Comedy. Much love.
Thank you for this, Jon

I had asked on the other thread, but I'm not sure if you saw it. I'm in a bit of a Garry Shandling trip right now, having just seen Apatow's excellend documentary "The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling". Did you have any run ins with him?

One thing Shandling said was that Mitzi tended to see you as either a writer or a comic, but not both. She said that to Shandling when he was writing for Sanford and Son, and wanted to get into stand up. So he stopped writing and just went for being a comic.

Hi, Dawg ... I replied on that other thread. See if you can search for it. Essentially, I said that we knew one another because I was writing Facts of Life in the same Gower Street building that Gary had his offices. Bumped into each other a lot, had some coffee and sandwiches occasionally in the cafeteria ... and so on.

A very funny guy and a good guy as well.
Sorry--I didn't see it
