I noticed on the updated depth chart that he's slated in as Tomlinson's back-up at DE. However, I'm wondering if he ends up being pushed to OLB. He just doesn't seem to have the body frame to play on the line in a 3-4 scheme. Plus, he's flashed enough athleticism and agility to make me think he suits more as a back-up to Martin than to Tomlinson.
It will be interesting to see where some of these guys, like Okwara and even Avery Moss, end up lining up in this new defensive system.
-big/strong guy
-good not great athlete
-consistent effort
-does not have the twitch/bend to be a good pass rusher DE; wonder if he could add some weight and play a passing down DT role (I am not saying he as talented as these guys but guys like Canty/Tuck come to mind)
Wish him the best, obviously. But we really aren't missing anything if he gets cut. He had one good game. So did Jamal Duff.
Yeah I think Okwara seems more of a 4-3 end and nothing else really, but we'll see how the coaches feel. And I agree with you on Avery Moss, I can see him making an easier transition to LB than Okwara.
He could if he doesn't fit the system. Why waste the roster spot and it's unfair to the player. That said, we still don't know how the Giants view him.
"A guy like Kareem, one of the most improved players that I've ever been around in the four years that I was around Kareem so far to Patrick Peterson -- these guys have expectations of themself that supersede my expectations, that supersede yours, that supersede anyone within the organization." Explains alot :-)
