Romeo Okwara

nyjuggernaut2 : 4/13/2018 8:50 am
I noticed on the updated depth chart that he's slated in as Tomlinson's back-up at DE. However, I'm wondering if he ends up being pushed to OLB. He just doesn't seem to have the body frame to play on the line in a 3-4 scheme. Plus, he's flashed enough athleticism and agility to make me think he suits more as a back-up to Martin than to Tomlinson.

It will be interesting to see where some of these guys, like Okwara and even Avery Moss, end up lining up in this new defensive system.

He's

one of those guys where I have no clue where to put him right now. Ourlads has him at LB. I put him at DE (just a guess). I wonder if he will be an early cut as I'm not sure he has a place on this defense.

hand, I'd be surprised if Avery wasn't shifted to LB. He's athletic enough for it.
I don’t think any defensive players with a cheap contract and under

I've seen every one of ROs pro and college games

He always leaves me w the same impressions:

-big/strong guy
-good not great athlete
-consistent effort
-does not have the twitch/bend to be a good pass rusher DE; wonder if he could add some weight and play a passing down DT role (I am not saying he as talented as these guys but guys like Canty/Tuck come to mind)
Not looking good for Okwara.

He wasn't very productive as a LB in Notre Dame's 3-4 scheme. It wasn't until Vangorder came in with his 4-3 that Okwara started to get going.

Wish him the best, obviously. But we really aren't missing anything if he gets cut. He had one good game. So did Jamal Duff.

Yeah I think Okwara seems more of a 4-3 end and nothing else really, but we'll see how the coaches feel. And I agree with you on Avery Moss, I can see him making an easier transition to LB than Okwara.

let him come to camp. he'll probably get cut unless he can play ST well
The only possibility..

Is rotating the two DT/DE between early down run stoppers (Tomlinson and Thomas) and passing down rushers (Wynn, Okwara)... Moss should be able to play the joker linebacker behind Vernon... If they trade with Buffalo and pick Vita Vea at #12, Okwara might be the odd man out....
Isn’t it premature

When the DC hasn’t figured out his alignment , yet? The player has one pass -rush move, which places him ahead of Tomlinson and Harrison , who have 0 pass-rush moves . Wynn is a complete non-factor . Rushbacking wonderkind Kareem Martin had 1 sack last season .
I look at these guys mentioned as

OLB's in a 3-4 defense, and I just shake my head....there isn't enough talent at linebacker, to play a 3-4 defense....there isn't enough talent in the DL to play a 3-4....

He could if he doesn't fit the system. Why waste the roster spot and it's unfair to the player. That said, we still don't know how the Giants view him.

The fastest LB we have is Ogletree 4.7 slated to play inside the rest are all 4.75 or worse 40 time guys with no experience in 3-4 defense. Please don’t count Kareem Martin as being experienced total of 51 tackles in four years 24 last year in ten starts. No idea who plays where but it’s going to be fun for other teams exploiting this present group.

"A guy like Kareem, one of the most improved players that I've ever been around in the four years that I was around Kareem so far to Patrick Peterson -- these guys have expectations of themself that supersede my expectations, that supersede yours, that supersede anyone within the organization." James Bettcher on April 4th, 2018

So I wanted to see what kind of NFL highlights were there for Kareem Martin well there was one 47 seconds total all plays at or behind the line of scrimmage but they did note him as a LB.

If it took four years for him to make 24 tackles how long to get to 50?

All I can tell you is our new defensive coordinator loves the guy.

That’s great but tell me a guy goes from 24 tackles to 80 I understand the hype but from 10 to 24 I’m thinking I need to replace that guy ASAP. Time will tell but even our band of great linebackers put together better stats than he did just reporting the facts.

Said last year that Avery Moss was thick and physical and was the perfect 4 3 Defensive end go figure
