maybe just maybe the A's would already be willing to deal Lucroy so they can basically turn a minor amount of money paid to him into a prospect? I'd be on the phone offering them something like Robles and a non-top 20 prospect.
We have very little leverage at this point - everyone knows we're going to be desperate to add a catcher and will want Gimenez+
If d'Arnaud is out for an extended period, they can always move him to 60 day DL to open up a 40 man spot for Lobotan. Otherwise I would be looking at low hanging fruit like Murphy. Colorado is always desperate for relievers. Can see if they would be interested in Callahan as he is close to the majors.

Yeah I mean I think realistically we're going to be restricted to the backup catcher market and dealing for someone like Rene Rivera at this point.
Yeah - sucks. Might be better off just trying to make this work for a bit and hope that once the A's and Marlins start bombing that they'll be more willing to make a deal.
Catcher seems to be as weak around the league as I can remember in a long time. There's very little quality.

Definitely not a bad idea. I'd at least check in if I were Sandy.
I agree Mike - I think the move is trading a RP for the best C avail
I've got to think most teams would take the gamble on an upside arm ready to contribute in the majors right now over their backup catcher. Sewald, Robles, Callahan and Rhame would seem like good candidates for trade depending on how good the player coming back is. I'd try really hard to do Robles+ for Lucroy.
You know some adversity was going to hit at some point. Just sucks that it is so early and the trade market hasn't even begun to materialize yet.
Think they are going to ride the Nido/Lobaton combo until they show that they are a detriment. Holding out hope that Nido can at least be serviceable.
Might have to look into adding Cheech, Hanigan, Montero or Rupp if one of Nido/Lobaton show that they are completely inept offensively. At the very least, we will see improved defensive play/arms behind the plate for the time being.

*too well
looking at Oak I actually think Robles (+) for Lucroy makes sense
Their BP is a mess. They currently only have 2 guys under 30 in their BP, both are 29 years old. Treinen has 2 saves this year, he had to go 2 innings for both of them. Also blew 1 save already.
Lucroy has been hitting 7th and 8th in their lineup and they have a 27 year old behind him who seems halfway decent and had a respectable year last year with 250 ABs.
Oakland would save more than $5M in the exchange. And realistically Beane probably just signed Lucroy to trade him at the deadline anyway.
The plus side is we've been getting very little production out of the catcher spot at the dish thus far and have still been winning anyway.
Plaw was batting .150 and was off to a very slow start - d'Arnaud wasn't fairing much better.
So - we don't exactly need Nido or Lobaton to tear the cover off the ball to maintain what we're doing right now as long as they hold up defensively.
We have a few hitters due for a hot streak anyway. (Looking at you, Cespy)
I'm excited to see Nido for a few weeks since he's supposedly going to be an upgrade defensively at the least. Offensively who knows but he he doesn't strike out a lot so maybe he just goes up there not trying to do too much and puts the ball in play a little bit?
Nimmo or Giminez for Realmuto but not both. It would be contingent on waiting a few weeks and making sure Realmuto is healthy. Realmuto is under team control for a while and would be a great addition without feeling like we're giving up the future.
are some FA's they can look at before they commit to a trade. I would go that route first, Miguel Montero recently got DFA'd; so someone who was on a ML roster recently is someone i would target.
is a lot different than 2-3 months. It's not like TDA/Plawecki were producing a ton for us during this 10-1 start anyway. We can get away with Nido/Loboton for a few weeks and keep an eye on FAs available.
then there's really nothing to do other than sit tight at this point.
It's not like TDA or Plaw were staples in the lineup. The expectations were to basically be average. The offense probably suffers a little bit, but the defense may actually improve.
but he'll probably cost too much. Nimmo is our future at cf, once the team realizes that Jay Bruce's days are numbered. An outfield of Cespedes, Nimmo and Conforto is what we want going forward.
Because theyre the Mets?
Unreal

I was hoping bullshit like this was in the past - I guess not.
Unreal.
Better start making some calls. Tomas Nido and Jose Lobaton suck. We can't have a black hole in the lineup every single day.

Has anyone heard from Sheck? I gotta make sure he's okay - probably devastated.
Lobaton/Nido? Yuck!

Probably still in the hospital waiting room.

Yeah, I would add Ruiz for now - it's insurance. He's a pro at least.

LOL. Poor guy.
Would be typical.
As I just reported on @SNYtv, I can confirm @NYPost_Mets report of a fracture for Plawecki. Thats the bad news.
The good news? I have been told the fracture is minor and the expectation is that Plawecki could be back in as little as 2-3 weeks.
trading Nimmo for a position that has no talent across the board outside of maybe 3 is ridiculous.
No chance I trade any of their MLB available pithing right now for a catcher.
A mid level prospect maybe.
Give Nido and anyone else the claim the chance.

Makes sense that it would be minor since they missed it on xray. A lot of small bones in hand.
We even traded for Kendall Coleman from NYY
at least its not an elbow or shoulder or hamstring. bones have a set time. not a lingering issue.
but really. why is it always the mets, when hit by a baseball, have fractures this year?

I don't think I'd be able to handle hearing them call him "Chooch" every game...

fear not fellow pessimists (almost all met fans) there could be short term hope.
Sheck - Buster Posey trade in the works?

Haha, I think he meant that to be "water under the bridge"
In other words - we're fine.

yea this is a very comprehensive list. Give Nido and Lobaton 10 days or so and I'm sure they will also add a veteran.
