@AdamSchefter

Cowboys expected to release WR Dev Bryant today, barring an unexpected last-minute change of heart, per @toddarcher and me. But the plan going into meeting that is now underway was to part ways with Bryant.

He's washed. He hasn't been the same since the foot injury.
It seemed like

he and Dak were never on the same page
Pretty bright of Jerry

that he did this before free agency so he could clear the deck, and you know, actually participate in free agency.

Err...

He's not nearly the player he was, but he's still a good #2 option. Not saying we should sign him.

But I'm not saying we shouldn't either lol

He's not someone Gettleman would want, honestly. But he's a better #2 than Marshall probably is.

Is he really using himself as a source?

He is insufferable.

They'll look a bit different with Bryce Butler or Cole Beasley as a starter. And we'll se if Terrance Williams is really a #1 WR.
He'll probably sign with the Redskins.

Was about to post the same thing. Its like no one can break any NFL news unless he puts his stamp of approval on it.
We've seen a lot of that problem with wide receivers on the Giants.
Ira : 4/13/2018 12:17 pm : link
Often, they're never the same after a serious injury. Steve Smith, Nicks and Cruz all were great for us before getting hurt. Manningham signed with the 49ers and got hurt and wasn't the same. That's why I'm hesitant about giving OBJ the deal he wants.

It goes back further than that. Ike Hilliard too. And even Amani Toomer - if I remember correctly - had an injury that robbed him of his speed, though it obviously wasn't career-ending.

Mike Sherrard?

I mean he'll definitely land somewhere. He can still play - but he's no longer a #1. There's a huge, huge difference between the player he was in 2014 and who he is now. He's very clearly lost a step.

Thats true.

He was one of the best wideouts in the league at one point.
I don't know what the market will be for him
Essex : 4/13/2018 12:22 pm : link
but he would be a heckuva two receiver if a team can get him for what BM came to us last year. If not, he is probably not worth it. What I would say is that he just never seemed to gel with Dak, like he did Romo.

He's barely a #2 WR and that was with Bryant, Witten, and Elliott drawing attention. With Bryant gone and Witten aging, Williams will be further exposed.
very much like the Keyshawn Johnson fall from grace

djm : 4/13/2018 12:31 pm : link
as a route runner. He got by on physical gifts more than anything else...now his gifts aren't what they used to be. He's shot.

I have a lot more confidence in a guy like Beckham coming back than I would Dez. BEckham is arguably the best route running WR in the game...he doesn't just get by on hops and speed.

Let Dez go round out his routes elsewhere. Dallas was smart to cut him. They don't make as many bad moves anymore which sucks.

Should sign him cheap

Forget the decline in his speed, his hands are just plain bad anymore. I don't know whether that's lack of concentration or he has the yips for fear of taking a big shot. Whatever the case, you can't have a WR who struggles to catch the ball.

That said, I could see Dez getting a long look from San Fran...
they are drafting the best

WR they can get in the 1st round. I believe they covet Courtland Sutton [or however you spell his name]

Odell.

LOL, I can't even type that with a straight face, it would be funny though.

He came out of college with some issues (maturity, route running, reading defenses) that were never really corrected. Add in the injuries and this is what you get.

The Cowboys had nobody who could get deep last season . Williams and Bryant both lost their speed. Prescott got a bad rap for checking down. He was looking downfield ; simply wasnt anyone getting open.

Nonsense. He doesn't turn 30 until November, played all 16 games last season, caught 69 passes and 6 td's. He's got more shelf life left than Marshall, and we are pining over losing stiffs.

This past year, Dez had almost an identical number of targets as he did in 2014.

Except this year, he caught about 20 less passes, had about 500 less receiving yards and scored TEN fewer TD's.

He's not the same player he was. All you need to do is watch him play. He's lost a step. It's not nonsense. He had a serious foot injury.

Of course he did. He was a top wideout for a while. Was he the "baby TO" that he was labelled coming out? No. But you can't sneeze at 4800 yards and 50 TD's in 4 years. The injuries are unfortunate, but prior to that - he was very productive.

WAS.

Led the Cowboys in receptions, yards, receiving td's, 20+ yard receptions, first downs receiving and YAC last season.

He hasn't had a qb since Romo's last season- You know when that was? 2015. Manning would give his left nut to have Bryant as a target on the other side of Beckham.

Total fucking nonsense that he is washed up, and it's not close.
The last thing DM & PS...
bw in dc : 4/13/2018 12:55 pm : link
need for this "new culture" is adding a psycho personality like Dez. We have enough issues with the ODJ and his non-sense.

Those two together would be a dumpster fire...

I agree that on the field he's better than Marshall, but Gettleman is not going to bring him here. They are very clearly trying to create a more cohesive environment and Bryant isn't exactly known as a great teammate.

Would I sign a player *like* Dez now? Sure. Would I sign Dez? No.

I'm not sure what you are seeing. He was not the same guy. He lost all ability to separate. If you watch the cowboys and think Dez is the same guy, then you may need glasses. He doesn't move anything like he used to. He's got great size and a great ability to go up and get a ball, but he's not the same guy.

Also, regarding the Pats. ONe guy said he's a perfect candidate for Bill, another said he's exactly the kind of guy they stay away from. Actually, he's the kind of guy Bill goes after only if he can get him for next to nothing. I don't think that's dez though, someone will pay him. Bill loves washed up players that other teams give up on because he gets them for pennies on the dollar.

The Giants need Dez, Odell, Shepard, Engram and Saquon and then their offense can be functional.

Yeah, and Dal is an equivalent qb to Romo. Check?

2014 was Romo's last season. He played 4 games in 15 and 1 in 16. 2104 was Bryants last 1000 yard season. It's not a coincidence.
