Cowboys expected to release WR Dev Bryant today, barring an unexpected last-minute change of heart, per @toddarcher and me. But the plan going into meeting that is now underway was to part ways with Bryant.
Quote:
This past year, Dez had almost an identical number of targets as he did in 2014.
Except this year, he caught about 20 less passes, had about 500 less receiving yards and scored TEN fewer TD's.
He's not the same player he was. All you need to do is watch him play. He's lost a step. It's not nonsense. He had a serious foot injury.
Yeah, and Dal is an equivalent qb to Romo. Check?
2014 was Romo's last season. He played 4 games in 15 and 1 in 16. 2104 was Bryants last 1000 yard season. It's not a coincidence.
Watch him play - if you can't see the difference, that's on you.
He's not the same guy at all.
Spare me the QB excuse. It has nothing to do with that. He doesn't have the same explosion he used to have and doesn't separate the same way. He's still strong enough to make contested catches and bust through jams but if you think this is the same elite player he was 4 years ago, I'm sorry - he isn't.
They wouldn't be releasing him if he was still the same guy.

How much Dak?
The Cowboys had nobody who could get deep last season . Williams and Bryant both lost their speed. Prescott got a bad rap for checking down. He was looking downfield ; simply wasnt anyone getting open.
Peak wise, yes. But he really only had 3 (maybe 4) peak years. From 2012-14 he was a top 5 WR with this average season:
91 rec, 1312 yds, 14 TDs
I bet he is going to Washington.
Also, regarding the Pats. ONe guy said he's a perfect candidate for Bill, another said he's exactly the kind of guy they stay away from. Actually, he's the kind of guy Bill goes after only if he can get him for next to nothing. I don't think that's dez though, someone will pay him. Bill loves washed up players that other teams give up on because he gets them for pennies on the dollar.
He hurt his foot. This isn't a compartment syndrome, torn leg muscles, knee fracture or some other leg complaint. The foot is sound- he played all 16 games last season- so if the legs are good, there is no reason he can't be a good, sound number 2 on a team with a competent passer, which we have.
Those two together would be a dumpster fire...
Peter Gibbons: You're gonna lay off Samir and Michael?
Bob Slydell: Oh yeah, we're gonna bring in some entry-level graduates, farm some work out to Singapore, that's the usual deal.
Bob Porter: Standard operating procedure.
Peter Gibbons: Do they know this yet?
Bob Slydell: No. No, of course not. We find it's always better to fire people on a Friday. Studies have statistically shown that there's less chance of an incident if you do it at the end of the week.
Do the Eagles even have cap space for Dez?
But he still wants to be paid like a #1 and any team willing to do that is horribly run AND he still thinks he can perform like a #1 and deserves the ball and attention from his QB like a #1 and those are bigger concerns.
If he was a team player and accepted a secondary role, he would have value as a big red zone and otherwise underneath target.. but he's not, so I'm not interested.
He'd be a good fit with Carolina i think, but ... best bet is he ends up a Redskin.

or CAR.

You can make almost anything work on a 1 year deal
Dak Prescott was pretty horrid last year. There's a pretty telling YouTube video detailing how many interceptions Dez saved.

Hopkins had 3 qb's last season. Here is what he did with each:
Watson 45 catches, 606 yards 7td
Savage 32 catches 378 yards 2 td's
Yates 19 catches 284 yards 4 td's
Now I am not claiming Bryant is Hopkins so you can burn that strawman, but insisting the quality of the passer has nothing do with the wideout is plain silly.

Scary how quickly receivers can fall off.

I agree. It's takes 2. Dak didn't do Dez any favors, but there were a number of drops in that video. I'm sure he was frustrated after having Romo for years.

In addition to @Spags52 report about Dez saying hed see the Cowboys twice this year, weve got this stamp of approval about staying in the NFC East.
They need him and could pay him big money
David Carr dominates Dak Prescott in a passing competiton - ( New Window )

DeAndre Hopkins just posted a 96/1378/13 season with Tom Savage throwing him the ball for most of it.

Why do I need to do all the looking up to dispel your ignorance?

Who were Hopkins' QB's in 2015 when he caught 111 passes?
Here you go:
Brian Hoyer
Ryan Mallett
TJ Yates
Brandon Weeden
You blamed Dez' lack of separation above on Prescott. Ridiculous logic.
Why is Dallas cutting ties if he hasn't declined?
Haha, I'm with ya. I'd start making the jerseys now.
Pryor was a complete bust. They're probably looking to fill that role with someone better.

Great idea.
Joey?
Now that's funny :)
I still think he's a good player.. I want him out of the division.
Davante Adams was better than Bryant last year with Hundley starting half their games.
I don't know how anyone can argue that Bryant is the same player he used to be. All you have to do is watch one Dallas game and you'll see the same explosion he used to have isn't there anymore.
He'll still help whoever's offense he joins (if he can keep his head on straight) but it sure as hell won't be here. If he winds up here, I officially have no idea what Gettleman is doing.
Bottom line - he's no longer a top flight WR.

Meh. Janoris Jenkins has done a great job on him. Not worried about it.

Savage 32 catches 378 yards 2 td's

Funny math above because Hopkins had 1,378 receiving yards last year. You lowballed Savage by 100 yards on bad math, and in the SF game, Savage i think had ~40 yards throwing to Hopkins before giving way to Yates.
Watson QB'd Hopkins for 6.5 games. Savage for 6.25 games. And Yates for 2.75 games. That needs to be factored into your "analysis." Note that Hopkins missed week 17.
So here are the correct numbers on a per game basis for Deandre Hopkins:
Watson: 6.9 catches, 93 yards, 1.1 TDs per game
Savage: 5.6 catches, 82 yards, 0.3 TDs per game
Yates: 5.8 catches, 90 yards, 1.5 TDs per game
The rest of your post i agree with, but at the same time, I watched too much Dallas football last year and Dez has definitely lost a lot of foot speed and separation ability. Its not all on Dak. He was useful in the red zone and in short routes because he's still a big body... so yes, agree, he's not in Hopkins stratosphere.... he's not in Davonte Adams category either.
I'd put him on par with like a Kelvim Benjamin or Marvin Jones if I'm being honest.
Those two together would be a dumpster fire...
I'm surprised you set your bible down long enough to read this thread.
Why is there this ever-present underbelly of Giants fans with a stick lodged in their ass?
Dez is far from a choir boy, but hardly a "psycho", christ.

Romo and Prescott don't have anything to do with Bryant's inability to separate from Defenders just because he used to be able to doesn't mean he always will be able to
