Can we just burn that other fucking thread? I don't want to look at it anymore.
New day, fresh start.
Wheeler vs. Gio.
Cespedes has had success against Gio so he'll almost certainly be back in the lineup today.
Time to see what this team is made of and how they handle a little adversity. Everything's easy when you're winning. Now we've got to bounce back from a horrific loss.
They stole one last night, let's steal one back.
The bullpen was horrific of course. The Blevins-Harper at bat was the crusher. Blevins has the advantage there and of course a great hitter was just able to poke one through.
Here is where I think Mickey screwed up, though.
Ramos comes in and strikes out Zimmerman. He then gives up a hit to Severino and walks Matt Reynolds, but at that point is still 6-4 and 2 outs with the bases loaded, and he brings in Familia to face Wilmer Difo.
Everyone knows Familia lets guys on when he first gets in the game. I would've let Ramos hang in there, who has gotten big outs before in tight jams. He was already on the mound, I think the better play is to let him work through it, go out there, tell him it's his inning, to settle down and throw strikes. Instead, Familia comes in, is struggling with his location, and with the bags loaded and blows the game.
The game was still salvageable if Ramos is allowed to get that third out in the 8th, IMO.
Today will be a big game...they can't let the bad feelings from last night snowball.
If we beat 'em tonight, all is forgotten. If not, ugh...
Anyway. Yeah, let's turn the page and hope for the good Wheels tonight.
Fuck the Nationals.
Lmao. You are killling me.

Official: The Mets called up reliever Gerson Bautista from Double-A Binghamton. They optioned Hansel Robles to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Bottom line? If Mickey leaves deGrom in and he falters, he's criticized because of the bullpen's domination. As it turned out, it blew up.
It was a stinker. One game. It happens. In every successful season. Mickey had it right, post-game - "that's baseball."
Lots of vets. Guy starting is coming off a very strong first outing. No reason NOT to be optimistic.
LET'S GO!
Stick skinny, Mejia-lite hair, winds up and just whips the shit out of the ball. Helluva fastball. Loses his command though.
Wheeler needs to pitch like a fucking savage tonight.

Nats fans aren't. Especially not Cespedes.
Lagares is a bench player that gets limited playing time...not a starter. Rosario is essentially a rookie who is supposed to be strong on the offensive end.
Love the confidence. Nice to see you guys around finally after your first win against the Mets. I do hope you get your guys back soon. I guess that your guys excuse.
I'd hate to see what happens when the Mets actually start to hit. I'm going to save this post and see how things are around the all-star break.
Quote:
Eaton, Murphy and Rendon out of the lineup. Zimmerman batting .100 and Taylor and Turner dancing with .200. If the Mets don't step on the throat and pad some distance now, the allstar game is going to be an ugly affair for Mets fans.

I can assure you that Nats fans are confident of nothing right now. Except maybe when Scherzer takes the mound.

Well, Gio has a record of something like 10-1 record at Citi Field so there may be more confidence than you think, especially after last night's win.
Leadoff double for Turner.
Nice call, Z!
John Maine?
It would be awesome if we could get to Gio and actually tag him up for once but I'm guessing we'll struggle as usual and have to hope we can run up his PC and get into the pen.
Maine didnt have a tenth of the talent Wheeler has IMO. He had a cool rising fastball though!
My guess is... no.
This is one of the dumbest responses Ive seen in some time. So Lagares is hitting .340 but dont point out his lifetime numbers. Rosario is really struggling but point out his lifetime numbers. Cespedes is significantly underperforming like ya know... MVP Zimmerman last year... and Nido isnt a starter because our starting catchers are injured like ya know... Murphy right now... but yeah... nothing to see here. Well done.
You can oft reference me being a Yankees and Nationals fan as much as you'd like and if it helps you sleep at night, so be it. But I've been a fan of both the Yankees and Expos/Nationals for close to 45 years and haven't flinched in that entire period of time. It's as long or nearly as long as I've been a NY Giants fan as well. I've got no question regarding my loyalties and your implications won't diminish them in the least, so carry on.
If that is the dumbest comment you've ever heard, I guess I can understand given who you hang out with
the handful of Mets fans that have proven that to be an impossibility has done it's job. enjoy your thread and feel free to speak about the Nationals as if they've raped every member of your family. have a good cry and enjoy your early success.

I actually worded my comment poorly. It was meant as
"The Nats are probably looking at Lagares, Nido, Rosario dot dot dot...
And also Cespedes hitting .100 and thinking the same thing. Lol"
That's what I was trying to say.
But either way, your response was hypocritical and ridiculous. I'm sorry I responded at all. Can we get back to the game now?

Will do. See ya later. The Yankees are playing too, so maybe go on over there and pollute their thread instead.
It doesn't seem like any of the 4 guys we have can do that.
ugh ugh ugh..
thoughts on Devin Mesoraco? We like them Reds

What’s the common thread?

I think you're getting at pitchers holding runners on which I agree but Nido and Lobaton look ridiculous. Stabbing at the ball. Just lost.

The pitchers still haven't learned to hold runners properly - but some of the throws to second aren't even competitive throws. They're not close.

So, all of their pitchers stink at holding runners on? Starters and relievers? Hard to believe. And our catchers don’t exactly have even good throws to catch runners. But they could start with not letting players get monstrous leads.
But Wheeler was throwing 97 in Miami. I am sick and tired of playing games in the North Pole. When the hell is this shit going to an end?
He's struggling to even hold onto breaking pitches behind the dish. What exactly is this guy here for?
We need Cespedes to wake up in the worst way.
Wheeler indeed with shades of John Maine. Gonzalez looking like Greg Maddux in his prime at CitiField.
Their catcher can throw, none of ours can. Shocker.
This lineup better wake up or a sweep is in order and Washington might be able to weather the early season surge from NYM.
Please fucking cash in now. Top of the order up with 2 on and no out.
If he got thrown out I probably would have just shut it off.
I’d tend to agree. Too many walks and this team will take advantage of his mistake pitches but he’s limited the damage. Finish this game strong and I’m getting closer with Wheeler.
LOL, I was shocked he made it.
The guy really is slow as molasses. I love him.. but he's VERY slow.
Oh well. Back within striking distance.
That said Wheeler needs to put another zero on the board now and not make this moot. lol
That said Wheeler needs to put another zero on the board now and not make this moot. lol
deGrom has earned it. Wheeler has not.
But we need to get back on top here.
Just saying that fans tend to go easier on a player that has proved time and time again his worth. Not as much with up and down players like Wheeler. But yes, he deserves credit.
Let’s tie it up here.
Let's Go!
We literally cannot throw a single runner out. It's a free steal every time.
Come on, they guy doesn’t hit HRs every single at bat, lol. He can be pitched to.
Quote:
Ballsy to let RG pitch to Harper there - we're lucky that didn't cost us 2 runs.

1st base was empty. We didn't have to pitch to him. We could have set up a force.
That's baseball, Susan.
I don’t know what the answer is but this has gone on long enough.
He's a guy I definitely think will break out when the weather warms up. Not worried about him at all.
Complete joke. I could steal on the Mets.
I fully expect to be swept and let Washington right back into the race when we had a golden opportunity to put them in a massive early season hole.
Such is Mets baseball. Never easy, never as planned, and usually disappointing when all is said and done.
But that’s the exact brand of baseball I’ve been begging the Mets to play since moving into Citi
Hang tight boys!
I think I'm just going to turn this one off and give it another go tomorrow. This is fucking annoying.
Mets need to get s catcher who can throw. I know they are runnng on the pitchers but you need a guy who can Gun somebody down occasionally.Opposition is running with impunity. Mickey has to work with the pitchers at holding runners. It’s ridiculous now
This can't continue.
Griffin announces his retirement from baseball in 3... 2... 1...
Lol. They don’t still have Dibble there, do they?
Verbatim text I got last night. Can’t be a coincidence
“12-5 after tomorrow and gonna be under.500 by Memorial Day”
Also, turning point of the game last night was Reyes AB in the 6th.
Reyes is literally the last guy on the roster I would want up in that spot. He has no value to this team. It's over.
Looks like Wheeler at least hung in there even if things wern't as smooth this time. Even losing two in a row to Washington isn't the end of the world. Gio somehow always shuts this team down. Really need the salvage game today.
Random.... but Philly is going to be tough to deal with going forward. That lineup is deep and full of threats and they still have a shitload of payroll to add the next few offseasons.
The bats going quiet is gonna happen from time to time. Having the catchers go up as automatic outs certainly doesn't help, and they've been resting players the last couple days. This team has some growing to do - but that's ok and should be expected.
Biggest takeaway from yesterday's game is Wheeler having a quality start without his best stuff.
Really wish we had TJ Rivera. He's a nice guy to have on your bench. He's still 6-8 weeks away right?
Yup. This is the one team I didn't want this to happen against because they're going to be the biggest obstacle if we want any shot at re-claiming the NLE.
If we had played like a bunch of turds against MIL but picked it back up here, I'd feel a lot better.
I hope we can salvage one tonight - but I think we're getting swept. Oy.
Really wish we had TJ Rivera. He's a nice guy to have on your bench. He's still 6-8 weeks away right?
The problem is Reyes has had like 16 atbats in 3+ weeks. Making Cecchini the 25th man would destroy any development he might still need. Almost anybody is going to go cold with that little playing time. I get it... Reyes is cold... again... but he’s played the equivalent of about 4 games or so. It’s really not a big sample and who cares about his development? If he can pinch run once in a while or whatever it’s still good enough. It honestly doesn’t bother me.
Honestly, I'm done with him. Not waiting for the light to turn on again. His third strike swing last night was pathetic.
Now that we've hit that bump in the road, can we please forget about "making a change in the clubhouse" and cut the dead weight that is Reyes? He's not particularly good in the field, can't hit, not even fast anymore. Let's move on please.
Let’s go get back Miguel Cairo or Chris Woodward for that spot I guess.

Honestly, I don't care about a two week stretch where he got some hits. That just means he was that much worse the rest of the month. For half the year he was horrible (for the most part). And he played a lot last season. He was essentially a starter.
We don't have to argue. We can agree to disagree. Reyes brings very very little to this team. And the fact that he was pinch hitting in that situation with Nimmo and Conforto on the bench was a crime.
I really hope he's not starting today but it wouldn't surprise me.
Quote:
I can show you splits for different weeks over the first half last year where Reyes was on fire including the last week of April. I really don't feel like arguing about it though or taking the time to break it all down. He sucks. Whatever. The guy literally has zero impact on wins and losses. For some reason the starters will take 47 bad atbats in a game and everyone will single out Reyes one pinch hit and blame everything on him (not even referring to posters here) . It’s kind of ridiculous.

Not disagreeing but who backs up SS if Rosario goes down. BTW he's not exactly lighting it up at SS either

That's a completely valid question. Honestly, I would roll with Rosario and let him learn. We have options on the team that could back up SS (Cabrera, Flores) if necessary. No, not the best options but Reyes is such a net-negative. Both Cabrera/Flores would be serviceable in the back up role.
Admittedly, not as up on the minor league options so I'm not sure if anyone can be brought up to replace Reyes. Otherwise, take a look at what the market brings.
If Reyes is going to play as little as he has been, then I guess you can roll with him. But, for the love of god, do not bat him in critical situations.
Trade for Peraza and Mesoraco, Reds4lyfe
If it isn't a long time they may move Cabrera to SS and then bring up Cecchini from Las Vegas and he and Flores will platoon at 2B
