This year, as I prepped for that team, an NFL personnel man asked me why I didn't put together a list of players I don't like as much as the scouts.
The captain this year is USC quarterback Sam Darnold. The co-captain is Penn State running back Saquon Barkley.
Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State
I like his game, but based on the pre-draft evaluations you'd think he was going to run for 1,800 yards and catch 70 passes every season. That's not happening. There are also a lot of good runners in this draft class who I think will have similar careers. The value of the position itself says Barkley will get over-drafted in my book. He's damn good, but he isn't what the draft cult would lead you to believe.
because of his speed (4.34 at the combine). He may be right, but Chark brings more than speed to the table. He's 6'3 with a 40" vertical and has good hands. He has a lot to learn about playing wide receiver, but in a year or two, he could be one of the best.
RE: He puts D J Chark on that list and says he'll be overdrafted Â

Had a great combine. Killed it.
Have to like the LSU bloodlines for WR. And you could argue his production suffered due to LSU's inability to find competent QBs.
But he's tricky to me. Seems to have a apathy gene that shows up too much...
the RB supply is greater than the need to use the #2 pick in the draft to take a RB. Same thing with OG. If the Giants think the DE is going to be an All Pro go ahead and take him. It's a premium position and it's hard to fill. RB & OG are not. QB is the hardest position to fill and since it will cost only 1 draft pick to have a choice of almost all of them it's worth the gamble that the QB they pick might bust. It's the only essential position and it's hard to fill.
been saying the same with some rather forceful language, and folks here act as though i have destroyed some holy cow.
the rb position is worth a lot less than the qb position. rbs are battering rams and easily replaceable. their careers are a lot shorter than qbs. a committee of 2 mediocre backs often does better than a stud rb.
barkley at #2 is completely insane and the giants will be committing malpractice to waste draft equity in this manner.. not when guys like Michel, Jones, Penney, Guice etc can be had later.

Sayers was a combination of every great running back ever imho. If Barkely is half the player Sayers was imagine him in blue
someone compared Josh Rosen to Tom Brady. If Rosen is half the player Tom Brady is imagine him blue - that would be 2 Super Bowl wins in 3 and a half appearances as opposed to 3 years of spectacular rushing years. Which would you rather have?

I remember vividly Reggie Bush was getting constant comparisons to Gale Sayers. There was even a piece on it in one of the pre-draft shows I think on ESPN. Be careful with the comparisons.
I agree with him about Chark, Washington and to an extent Darnold. Â
Just watch Sayers run avoids contact great feet and the thing that Barkley has is the stop and start like Gayle did
I think Sayers was a bit more of a strider but Barkley's football speed at 230 lbs is unreal . If we don't take him I hope he ends up in the AFC somewhere .
1 New York Giants Tucker Frederickson Back Auburn
2 San Francisco 49ers Ken Willard Fullback North Carolina
3 Chicago Bears (Pick acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers) Dick Butkus Linebacker Illinois
4 Chicago Bears Gale Sayers Halfback Kansas
5 Dallas Cowboys Craig Morton Quarterback California
6 Chicago Bears (Pick acquired from the Washington Redskins) Steve DeLong [8] Tackle Tennessee
7 Green Bay Packers (Pick acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles) Donny Anderson Halfback Texas Tech
8 Minnesota Vikings Jack Snow End Notre Dame
9 Los Angeles Rams Clancy Williams Halfback Washington State
10 Green Bay Packers Larry Elkins Wide receiver Baylor

12 St. Louis Cardinals Joe Namath [9] Quarterback Alabama
13 San Francisco 49ers (Pick acquired from the Cleveland Browns) George Donnelly Back Illinois
14 Baltimore Colts Mike Curtis Linebacker Duke
Did the Bears get value for Sayers compared to Craig Morton?
Well there be RB’s as good as Barkley? Yup
QB’s better than the one we could pick? Yup
OL? Yup, DE? Probably. Bottom line, get the best player who won’t bust or move down get more picks so you have more chances to get it right.
I posted that on another thread about draft busts for the Giants. Because of Butkus and Sayers I thought TF was our biggest bust. Thought they went #2 & #3. I learned something 3&4.
Sorry I don't get it name one TE in the last five drafts that's top 100 who was NFL ready to block. Now since that failed name five NFL veteran blocking TE's, it's a lost art teams want TE's who stretch the field. Can't say I see anything lacking in Andrews game to start very early in his career.
Clark is a big question mark will it take three years for the light to come on as it did at LSU, plus he will need to add 12-15 pounds for the NFL. Once again you can teach just about anything but Speed.
Ridley has some questions but he has produced once he got on the field. his age is a concern 24 but not sure what else seems lacking in his game.
Hubbard could be overrated but he will not be found slacking he comes to play every game with everything god gave him.
Barkley is one of the top RB's most have seen in decades there is nothing missing in this young mans game. The odds he does not become a HOF are very small but he will be in this league for years playing at a very high rate non career injury status as all players have to deal with.
I started this process thinking Mayfield was the best prospect followed by Darnold. Mayfield was the best player I watched play. As I started researching, watching games, reading expert opinions, Darnold has become a near remote throw pick for me. he is the squeaky clean pick, the one you can't be blamed for making. I see the things with his motion and the turnovers. How he holds the ball, size of his hands. I am solidly Rosen/Mayfield as the 2 best prospects now. I like Barkley a ton, after learning a few things, I agree with the current philosophy on RBs, not enough value at 2. I wont hate the Barkley pick if it happens because watching him will be fun as shit. I think Darnold is a bust.
This is a bumper crop of RBs; and I am confident at least 2 of the RBs not named Barkley will be just as good if not better.

This time I wholeheartedly agree with you!

If I had to pick the biggest bust in this draft my money would be on Darnold.

Thanks. It's always a good day for me when a BBI Elite posts what I'm thinking.
He's like the worst mouthy asshole on the commuter train that makes you prioritize sitting in another car.
