I can't fathom being married for 70 years, probably won't even live that long. She was a great first lady and she is who I think of when I think of a First Lady.
Wow - super classy lady. 73 years of marriage which is awesome. Absolutely echo the comments about how she seemed sincere. They had something on TV discussing her health with one of her granddaughters (Jenna?) - you could see the tears about to come out and what a great rapport and impact she had on her grandchildren.
The last First Lady we've had with any sense of dignity.
Some people just can't help themselves
im sorry, I know it’s inappropriate here but I can’t help myself (I also have the impulse control of a 5-yr old)...
But I cannot for the life of me see how the above post is worthy of at least three separate critical responses, but

is acceptable.
Can you elucidate?
You’re right it came out wrong. Should have read despite your views on them. It was suppose to read very complimentary of the women who were role models to all.
The idea is that we tend to self edit when the context is grief.
What becomes extraneous is greater than it otherwise would be, and said possible imbalance which may result is unferstood and left out there untrammeled and unsullied by our usual day to day positioning.

I'm sure it's an intrinsic defect in me, but I honestly have no clue what the fuck you are talking about.
for the usual BBI pissing in cheerios/gotta have the last word pile on. Keep it on track for the mourning of First Lady Bush.
I've seen Presidents go, some of whom I liked, and it didn't seem the same as knowing BB was ill and dying. It's not as personal as my mother passing, but it has some of that same feel.
And it's understood that a condolence context is going to result in a certain type of discussion and leaving it at that is a display of our community discipline.
To bring in our usual breathless angling is sort of the equivalent of a brawl at a wedding or of Geno Smith using his first Giants starting QB press conference to air an old grievance about Rex Ryan.

I keep hearing that last sentence in Eugene's (Walking Dead) voice...

Doesn't really matter if Geno had a point or not.
My comment wasn't about the comment per se but the imbalance of critical responses. Anyway, fkap is on point.
Grace in that context is letting the imbalance slide.
Less than that is just a high falutin version of the usual pile on.
(Unless it's an Irish Wake, hehe, in which case open discussion is welcome, but, again, in context, you will know when your at an Irish wake, so context is on point)
"Remember that time Barb and I were shooting ducks out the back of that 75 Cadillac Seville down by the river?"
(Not that she ever would have done that in real.life!!!)
(It's understood in context as a loving memory and a reminder of our shared humanity I.e. fallibility, which is the basis of all humor and therefore a very healing type ofsentiment)
Again, Not that she would ever have done that!!!!
It's random example based man 'splainin comment about context.
God be with you Barbara. The news showed some photos of here in her younger days. The pictures presented a good looking woman, sort of in the young Barabara Stanwyck mode.
When her 3-year old daughter Robin died of leukemia ....her hair turned grey. She left it natural to remind her of her loss.
ABC News - ( New Window )
Just announced on the news
Respect.
I agree 100% and think that was one reason she was so popular. RIP.
The Bush women are the epitome of class despite what their husbands did. Barbara and Laura are true inspirational women.

Just ridiculous from any kind of a mature viewpoint

May she RIP and may God give comfort to George Sr. during this most difficult time

You know what? That is an absolutely fair criticism!
Either one is wrong
