1981 Draft: LT, Jennings

The little interview with him afterwards was great. Before my time but wonder how the "walkout" comment would go over these days.

For those who remember, who did Giants fans want offensively? And was the walkout talk legit?

at draft time but then again I didn't follow the draft too closely due to being away at college. I do remember that leading up to camp there were some back page stories about how upset the other LB's were at the contract LT had gotten. That talk stopped after a day or two of LT terrorizing the offense in practice.

Wanted Freeman McNeil or George Rodgers. I got to know Gary Jeter during that time. He was the spokesperson for my friends gym. He told me there was no way they will pass on LT. everyone knew Rodgers was going 1st. He told me straight off best prospect he had ever saw play.

Some were hoping for Rodgers (RB)

The Saints took him #1.

The consensus going into the draft was that LT was the best player. A can't miss. It was not a surprise at all when the Giants picked him.

but I remember being upset that we passed on Hugh Green. My track record is worse than Reese's.

what..a linebacker???...I mean that was the only place the team had any talent. I said exactly the same thing when they drafted Banks...another linebacker????

I've been in the BPA camp every since...pick the best player, it doesn't matter who you have on the team. Even more so now because of injuries....

Oh..Hugh Green was a really good player as I remember..
