The problem: Finding starting QBs is hard.

George from PA : 4/18/2018 11:33 pm
Anyone who lived through the Dave Brown era knows it's painful. We might be experiencing it sooner then later. Hell, some believe we are already living it.

So the obvious solution is draft a QB next week @2.

Which very well might happen. If it does....let's all hope it works out...as a mistake will set us back....how?

We live through Eli's last days...and ten start the stud...expect growing pains... must give new stud the time......,(not working out)..more time, improve supporting cast, more time, different coach...more time.... realization of mistake...start over. We can call it the Lost decade. Assume all current mgt. Will be fired.

Now, let's look at the roles of Giants brass today...

Their mission is to win....not one of them...said during interview "no way can we win with Eli".

DG needs to build team to win (setting them up to win for next decade would be great. Accorsi did it....but he was retired by the time they actually won ummmmm.)

Shurmur must win. The QB whisperer.. I am pretty confident he told mgt. that he can win with Eli. He noticed that McAdoo was only given 2 years....and one, he made the playoffs....ummmmm.

Even if they make the right choice in QB....is it really better for these two guys...to draft someone to sit for at least one if not two years...or are they better off drafting someone that contributes right away.

I say the offensive coaches....wants offensive guys drafted...the defensive coaches want defensive players.and they all want players that contributes sooner then later.

So it's up to the owners. Now, the decision must be a slam dunk for the owners to go against the people they just hired to run the team....no?

What I my point?
My point is just that Organization do not draft players....people do.

you cant listen to what coaches say about players. They cant and wont run their players down, if they are smart. But those guys saying Eli has a lot left doesnt mean they wont select a qb. And if they select a QB you better believe that if he plays well in practice and proves he is ready he will NOT sit for two whole seasons. If they get Rosen for instance and if he is playing great, he will play before the end of season one.
Valid argument....and totally agree

If they draft a QB....Eli must go sooner then later.

The new QB should be on the field sooner then later....as the speed of game must be adapted.

We will know soon enough....what they actually believe

+1

If they go QB, Eli will be under incredible scrutiny, and he'll have to be spectacular to keep his job as starter. Not necessarily a bad thing for Eli; we all know he can be his best under pressure.

If the Giants do not draft a QB with the second pick how do they plan to replace Eli?

It is only a matter of time, one or two years.
The Giants cannot continue to pay Eli premium money for declining performance. It is not sustainable or desirable.

The Giants should have a plan in place replace Eli.
It is very hard to find a quality QB and it typically takes at least two years for a player to be productive as a QB.

The plan must be implemented now to create a seamless transition.

So is Webb the heir apparent?
If not and the Giants do not draft a QB, Giant fans better enjoy next year because without a QB in place there will be lean years.

So the theme is that it is hard to find a QB so we should draft one in Round 1. Then you mention the Dave Brown Era. Here is a bulletin. Dave Brown was drafted in the supplemental draft but we gave up our number 1 in order to grab him. Point is even if you draft a QB with a number 1 type pick there is no guarantee.
Dave Brown..

became symbolic as a loser, but he didn't have anything around him to work with. He was given a bunch of Bronco castoffs, a D that had a bunch of guys retire or shipped off and replaced with Broncos, and some poor drafts.

I was more upset having the Danny Kannell/Kent Graham show going on while we actually had a D that could take us places. And once we moved to Kerry Collins we did exactly that.
Kent Graham was just a late bloomer is all.

There’s no guarantees.. Shocking revelation. I was expecting a post about a situation that if do it- 100% of the time it works out with no examples in history of when it didnt.
