"Look guys, here is our draft board...1) Sam Darnold; 2) Saquon Barkley; 3) Bradley Chubb; 4) Josh Rosen; 5) Quenton Nelson; 6) Josh Allen. We'd be happy with any of those guys so we are certainly willing to trade down, but no lower than 6th. In the second round we want to address the OL and CB positions, so a trade down will give us some ammo to trade back into the back half of the first to get a guy we like. That's the plan going in. I'm happy to take your questions now."
will be said, as is proper. Of all the criticisms of Reese, no one could fault him for not being forthcoming during his annual pre-draft press conference. It won't be any different with Gettleman.
I'm more interested in what he says about the current roster...
...than the draft. I hope he is asked about guys like Flowers and Marshall, not that I'm expecting to hear anything definitive, but perhaps he'll say something that hints at what we can expect.

What's there to be said about Flowers? He's under contract and will compete for a job at RT. He didn't show up to the ota because he wasn't required to and they can't do anything about that. There's not much more they can say about the guy.
Release him when it is convenient for the team and not give a rats ass about him finding a job. It is never a good idea to piss off your employer, never. I think he did that job real well between the end of last season and this. Not that I thought the Giants would not do everything to move past this bumb, because they will, he doesn't have his protector anymore.

You ask the question and then you see how he answers it. His answer may reveal nothing or it may reveal something. He could be nonchalant and wave it off or he could hint at irritation with Flowers. He might even make a general statement that can be interpreted specifically to a certain player (i.e., everyone has a clean slate, but the slate remains clean for only so long). Same thing with asking about Marshall. He's done a lot of self-scouting of the current roster, I wonder if they can pull something out of him when it comes to some of the youngsters like Jones and Wheeler on the OL, Goodson at LB, Lewis at WR, Perkins and Gallman at RB (i.e., did anyone stand out or surprise him a little). I'm not optimistic about him saying anything all that meaningful, but they certainly aren't going to get anything meaningful out of him in terms of the draft.
Release him when it is convenient for the team and not give a rats ass about him finding a job. It is never a good idea to piss off your employer, never. His protection is the $2.4M guaranteed salary he is due. In an ideal scenario the Giants find a trading partner willing to take on that salary and anything the Giants get in return (i.e., 7th round pick) is considered gravy. There are several teams with multiple 7th round picks and plenty of cap room that might see the value in a former first round pick with three years of starting experience at left tackle.

This is actually interesting, because earlier in the PC, he said specifically "I don't want guys that like to play football, I want guys that gate to lose".
I don't think that's what he meant. I believe he reallly doesn't know whi he prefers yet. He's going to take all the time he has knowing what a huge decision this is for the franchise. He'll probably go to bed the night before the draft with a final idea and sleep on it and see how he feels about it in the morning.
he is going to row of 3, most likely at the top of Giants board is going to be a QB/RB/DE (pass rusher). Then need will come into play so they fill highest rated on board with highest value of their given need. Interesting.
I feel DG loves the back and forth with media and has a genuinely relaxed easy going personality to boot, funny guy!
most definitely doesn't have a relaxed easy-going personality, but the guy loves to discuss football. Start getting into any other subjects, especially about off the field stuff and he gets testy and can clam up.
Football and food he'll banter with the reporters all day about.
considering it's a direct interview with the guy that's making the pick one week from today, and probably the most direct insight into what the org is thinking.

Can Eli make plays from the pocket any more?, he certainly can't Escape.
He just reiterated that "missing on a QB is a five year mistake". Don't get too big a woody just yet, it also applies to picking the wrong QB.
I would argue that missing on any player with a top 3 pick is at least a 3 year mistake--unless you're fortunate enough to be able to cover up their weaknesses the way the Rams seemed to do last year with Greg Robinson. The flip side is, hitting on a QB is often a 10 + year success that allows you to build around him for a decade. And DG said, it's the second pick, you can't miss. Doesn't matter what position it is, a miss is going to set the franchise back a handful of years at least. I would say though that as for QBs, the rookie salary cap makes the miss less devastating than pre-rookie cap days.
Darnold is 1A but probably going first overall.
Barkley is 1B and is probably a made man in NY in a week.
So Im saying I agree.
Beckham, Shepard, Engram, Barkley, Eli....
most positions you know what you have pretty soon. On QBs that isnt the case. One to two years to get on the field, then a couple of years to know if they can really play. That isnt true of other positions.
while really saying not much (which is exactly what he should have done). Some interesting takeaways.
Started the press conference by saying he didn't want guys who like to play football, but guys who hate to lose. When asked about Rosen, he said "he wants to play football."
Barkely is a guy his mother could scout. An incredible talent.
Sounds like they still use "rows" based on draft grades and don't look too far outside that about who may be available later when deciding between multiple prospects.
The college game is so different now that much of the player evaluation is on instincts, effort, and physicality. Harder to rate guys on specific skills when you don't know what they are asked to do, or what they have been taught. Interesting example about an LB not being able to shed blocks "maybe he was never taught that. That's a skill we can teach."
doesnt seem to realize the game has evolved and he wants to play 3 yards and a cloud of dust on offense
Funny, I don't watch much college FB, but 3 yards and a cloud of dust doesn't seem to describe a. Barkley, b. Shurmer or c. what Shurmer's Giants offense would be with Barkley, OBJ, et. al.
Yeah, right.
I guess the Ravens have the decency to provide a meal for the media.
