readings on petereson
Nothing
DanMetroMan : 4/19/2018 9:14 am : link
I've seen but video/gifs didn't show him overpowering hitters. Slider looked good. He, Brodey, Kay, Villines etc really can't show a ton in Columbia, hopefully not there for that long.
Flexen
Metnut : 4/19/2018 9:24 am : link
doesn't miss enough bats to walk so many guys. If he's going to be any help at the MLB level, he's going to need to be better.
Season debut

He had 3 2/3 IP in Brooklyn after he was drafted

Correct, I don't operate too well pre-coffee.

I think Flexen is a RP if he's a solid big leaguer.
There seemed to be some dislike

of Rhame when he was with the team, but in his limited appearances he looked pretty solid and competent to me. I know the bullpen is stocked with right hand arms but he looks like good depth.
From what I thought I read

Peterson simply isnt a blow away kind of guy. He actually pitches and his velo is in the low 90s. Mark me as one that doesnt hate that he is a flame thrower, seeing as all of our current flame throwers cant seem to stay healthy.

Never nearly as big a fan of his as most. But he stepped up huge last night. Hope I’m wrong on him and everyone else is right. The arms in the system are damn good and plentiful.
Peterson
Shecky : 4/19/2018 10:12 am : link
If he was a flame thrower he would have never been available when we picked. Low to mid 90s but a TON of movement. As I said last night, the fact they were all pounding it into the ground is a great, great sign.

There's an interesting race shaping up in Columbia's Low A League. The 'Flies are leading the Southern Division, but the top 4 teams are only a game apart. Columbia is coming in to play the Riverdogs next week, we've got tix to Wed the 25th. I hope it's Peterson's turn in the rotation.

When does Ryder Ryan get called up. He is dominating in St. Lucie.
Hey, any updates on Viall?

And by called up, I mean promoted to AA.

No time soon. He's thrown 7.2 innings in A+ with 6 baserunners.
would Madison Bumgarner be a good pro comparison

MadBum has a great slider, plus CU. Peterson's repertoire simply is a noth below across the board. I've seen some Buehrle comps. Bumgarner is a freak. MLB rotation at 20 with a 131 era+. Bumgarner was an elite, elite prospect. Peterson is not and likely never will be. If lucky, Peterson could be a Mulder type who won his share of games.

LOL, Sandy Koufax?
Any chance that the Mets draft
Metnut : 4/19/2018 11:51 am : link
Joey Bart at #6? I know drafting for need in baseball is foolish, but he's a legit top ten pick and looks like he'd be able to get to the big leagues fast.
Dan with a fair summary
Shecky : 4/19/2018 11:51 am : link
I assume everyone would get up in arms seeing a Mu,dear comp. but let’s be honest - anyone that doesn’t sign up for that without hesitating is crazy. I’ll take it a step further - whomever the Mets draft this summer, if he turns into Mulder I’d do cartwheels too.

One step even further. Number one overall pick turns into a Mulder, and no team in baseball isn’t happy. That’s how much fans overrate the success of a draftpick/prospect vs how difficult it is to realistically find a successful ball player.
I'd sign for Mark Buehrle right now
Eric on Li : 4/19/2018 12:12 pm : link
really really solid pitcher for a long time.
Every
DanMetroMan : 4/19/2018 12:22 pm : link
team in baseball would sign for one of their top guys being a Mulder or Buehrle let alone one taken 20th overall. Odds are even if he develops he's not going to be as good as either one of them but he's long and has solid overall stuff. He's nothing like the "5 aces" who have or had unusual stuff. But super sized lefties can have success.
