John Dorsey says QB hand size is key criterion

shyster : 4/19/2018 11:48 am
for playing in Cleveland. Also, when asked, says Barkley not ruled out for #1.

He's having his pre-draft presser.

The rest seems to be the usual non-committal fluff.

But anyone who has been following along knows that Josh A is the QB hand size leader, Rosen not far behind, Darnold and Mayfield trailing.

#Browns Dorsey cited hand size as a key criteria for a QB playing in Cleveland

Just saw two news flashes about Dorsey and the Browns
Beer Man : 4/19/2018 11:54 am : link
1. They have considered drafting two QBs

2. Dorsey is holding his cards so close that he has not even shared his draft strategy with Browns ownership
Strike Mayfield and Darnold

My theory on why Dorsey would drop that pearl at a presser...
Milton : 4/19/2018 11:58 am : link
It's a message to Gettleman that Rosen is in the mix at #1 so he shouldn't be so sure that he will fall to the Giants.

Mason Rudolph's hand size was the smallest of the QBs at combine...

...at 9 1/8. Some thought he might be a target of Belichick's. Being a cold weather team that expects to be playing home games in January, I wonder if hand size will rule Rudolph out.

Article on the two QB angle.

Highly doubt they would do it at #1 and #4 but apparently they have given the concept some thought.

Dear Dorsey, please draft Barkley, so I don't have to worry about our front office making the mistake of a lifetime.

Incidentally, did no one hear the Cards' GM yesterday? He said this is the time for misinformation, and he did not expect the next 20 minutes of his press conference to be any different. Does anyone actually think Dorsey is being truthful with the media?
Is this fucking guy really going to take Josh Allen????
est1986 : 4/19/2018 12:14 pm : link
He should be fired before the Giants pick is in if he doesn’t take Sam Darnold. I still hope 🤞 we get one of Sam Darnold or Saquon Barkley. That’s been my tune since the start of the off-season (& trust me our off-season started mid-season), Sam or Saquon.
Awesome thanks I needed a good laugh today

There’s probably a threshold
UConn4523 : 4/19/2018 12:30 pm : link
that he wouldn’t want the QB to be under. Doesn’t necessarily mean that the biggest hands would make for the best pick or even be a tie breaker.
He's taking

Same hand size as Aaron Rodgers.
If hand size matters
mavric : 4/19/2018 12:40 pm : link
then Logan Thomas would be the best QB in the NFL with his nearly 11" mitts and Mark Sanchez with his 10 1/2" mitts is almost the perfect QB. And of course, one of the worst QB's in the NFL would be Tom Brady with his puny 9 3/8" hands.

Bottom line: the article is bullshit

There are ways around the hand size issue even in cold weather. Like under-inflating the footballs, for example.
Seems to be in line

With other data suggesting he likes Allen. But why would he make it so obvious he s not taking Darnold.

Because he then said winning, accuracy and arm strength were what he was looking for which apart from arm strength, pretty much eliminates Allen.

I've now had opportunity to watch
shyster : 4/19/2018 2:20 pm : link
and listen to Dorsey's comments and I encourage anyone else to do so who wants to get more of the flavor and nuance.

The hand size comments come up around the 12:00 mark and I think they are worth noting.

There are other comments earlier in the conference that focus on winning as a bottom line.

Certainly don't see him as ruling out Darnold (or Mayfield) but it is notable that, when asked "What is unique about Cleveland?", hand size and November/December football is what he came up with (and he does goes on for a bit.)
