I think they're at the point where it's not even worth burning out the pen. Just leave him out there and forget about this game.
Thor and Jake going in the next two, try and take those and then see what happens Sunday with Wheeler.
Why waste him on this game ?

Good point. Have the Mets ever sent him down to AAA at all these last couple of years. I don't recall. Would they now?
Hate waving the white flag on any game but we have a better chance of at least splitting this 4 game set if we just leave Matt out there to suck up another 2 innings.

Only for rehab starts when he was coming back from injury - I don't believe he's ever been sent down when "healthy"
But if there's a time to do it, it's now. I don't think he even has any use as a BP guy right now.
He has to go down and work on some things.
It's not the velocity.
Corey Kluber tops out at like 93 and he's utterly dominant. Matt has to learn to pitch. He got by as a thrower when he had overpowering stuff. That wont work anymore.
Bullpen? At this rate Wisler won't need 100 pitches to go 9.
Maybe DL him for a while.

Opponents are batting .309 against Matt Harvey ... No bueno.
Not sure why any Mets fan would find satisfaction in that or enjoy watching him fall from grace. Kinda shitty if you ask me. But everyone's entitled to their opinion.
Yeah Wisler is bound to walk the bases loaded. Luckily Ramirez is on the DL and Luke Jackson is back in AAA. I wonder if we will see the debut of Biddle tonight.

Shitty? Maybe. I know a few assholes in my life that I wouldnt mind see fall on their ass. Im okay with that. Its hard to feel bad for jerk millionaires. Ive put up with a lot of rich assholes. Or maybe its the bottle of wine that Ive had lol.
Harvey wasnt even out of high school when he felt the world owed him something. Earn it back, buddy.
2015 was awesome, and at the time I was grateful for his and everyone's effort to make that happen.
this is 2018 and he sucks, he should be on the DL or somewhere until if and when he gets straightened but at a minimum he shouldn't be starting anymore while this is what they'll get from him.

That was directed at me, rightfully so. I enjoy his demise.
Of course, Id cheer him on if he was good. I have zero connection to Harvey. And Ive been drinking.

Two posts above mine.
Anyway - I don't see any point in kicking dirt on the guy now. He absolutely sucks out there. I never said he didn't and I sure as hell didn't defend any of his performances lately.
I'm just sure that it sucks to be capable of what he was a few years ago and just not have that ability anymore because his body couldn't hold up. It is going to cost him millions and millions of dollars.
I don't enjoy that part of it and I'm definitely not happy to see it happen to him.
Ronnie is actually talking about it right now. You have to really hate him to not at least feel a little bit bad for how far he's fallen. I don't think anything he said or did in the past was so bad to say that he actually deserves this.
But again, that's just me... I won't go on and on about this and turn the thread into an argument about whether Harvey is or isn't a dick.
He's clearly been very humbled by all of this. The bad man is gone. We can leave him alone now. He'll be off the team after this season in all liklihood.

it's possible I missed a Mets fan rejoicing at the beating the Mets take every time he takes the mound.

I see it now, yeah I take no joy in it and I'm not kicking dirt on him, at the same time sports is a what have you done for me lately business.
Thank you Matt Harvey for your service, if you can't pitch well you can't pitch for my team (if I'm making the calls).
I'd just be a lot happier if he was still the pitcher he was before.
The problem with that is that we don't have much @ SS - Reyes is pitiful. Although perhaps regular PT would help him get out of the slump.
But outside of Jose, we don't have many other options to fill that spot. Cabrera there isn't ideal - he's much better @ 2B. He can play there in a pinch but the range is very limited.
Even Reyes isn't half the fielder he used to be.
Rosario's plate discipline needs a ton of work. But he might have to work that out up here.
I'm glad he settled in somewhat though. We needed him to suck up a few more innings after needing the pen for 5 innings last night.

Yeah he definitely battled back and gave 6 much needed innings.

to get his confidence up. His numbers are eerily similar to Swanson's last season. The Braves sent him down and his numbers improved upon his return.

You can have Charlie Culberson. All we want in return is a half eaten hot dog.

We don't even care who took the bite.
It's amazing that anyone would say this in the sport of baseball, and as I am watch, Wisler is pitching a 2 hitter into the 8th ...
Its against the Mets. Their should be an asterisk next to this win.

a chance in the rotation.
I'd leave him in the pen for now - we already have Vargas coming back. So to put Gsellman in the rotation, we'd have to pull Matz or Wheeler out of it along with Harvey.
Plus I had read somewhere that opposing batters hit Gsellman better and better each time they face him, suggesting he might be better in relief right now.

I agree. The announcers were saying how managing these days is all about trying your best to win each game. I am not sure how that can be true. If you are down 5 in late innings, you don't give up, but you don't pitch anyone in a way that hampers your chances the next night.
LOL, I told ya man...
Any time a Mets win is supposed to be easy... it isn't.
Need Thor to go 7+ tomorrow night. No more excuses.

I just thought that with his horrific performance last season and during ST along with the Mets comeback last night that tonight's game would be a blowout.
I do appreciate what little he did accomplish for the Mets. But I feel zero connection to him as a player (like I would maybe with David Wright, but I was much younger) and if Im being honest...I really dont feel bad for him. If that makes me a bad guy, Im okay with that. I mean, Im an adult so I really dont have a connection to any of these guys lol but Harvey has always just rubbed me the wrong way.

This I really have no issue with.
If you say you're enjoying his demise, I think that's a little much - but hey man, we've done this a billion times already. No reason for us to waste more time on it.
I get why he rubbed people the wrong way. I actually thought a little humble pie would serve him well. But unfortunately the stuff just isn't there anymore and unless he finds a way to totally re-invent himself, he's nothing more than a fringe back end starter.
So, I think we can all agree that if Jason Vargas is going to jump into the rotation upon his return, it's Matt's spot he should take. And Matt should really go down and be instructed to work on becoming more of a pitcher.
If he can't do that, he's not going to find many potential suitors after he leaves here.
