No such thing as an easy win for the Mets.
Get out of here with your reverse psychology, lol!

Nothing official yet, but knowing Freeman he'll lobby to be in tonight's lineup as long as today's tests confirmed his left wrist/hand was not fractured.
Looks like it may have worked. Huge relief.
Indeed, Cabrera has been fantastic so far.
Has it happened and I just haven't noticed?
I mean, Bryce Harper looks pretty comfortable at the plate no matter who the Mets have on the mound.
Freeman made me think of this too.
I'm not advocating intentionally hitting anyone, but pitching inside absolutely, especially someone like Thor, let them at least have some doubt.
I think Thor's control can give people too much comfort facing high 90's.
Anyway, Harvey today could also use some more inside pitching. Keep those batters off the plate and uncomfortable.
I'm not sure what the actual reason it, I just know whenever we play down there the game usually starts @ 7:35 rather than 7 or 7:10
PitchFX for April 17th.
Seems like they're pitching inside just fine.
When Callaway and Eiland talked about the Mets pitchers pitching inside more, I guess in my head I envisioned some chin music - with a purpose - every now and then to guys like Harper, Freeman, Murphy - the Mets killers.
Like Pedro used to do in his hey day with Boston or Montreal.
Didn't he pitch really well against us last year?
Didn't he pitch really well against us last year?
that 12 pitch 1st inning won't hurt.
There is no such thing as an easy win here. :)

I wish that were true but Wisler is a much different pitcher than he was a couple of years ago. He looked like he was on his way to becoming a very good #3 SP but then his control just went to shit. He was awful last season in the rotation and in relief. He is a classic AAAA pitcher that will put up solid numbers in AAA but then bomb in the majors.
The Braves have started off better than I expected. They should have promoted a top prospect like Soroka or Fried instead of Wisler.
He really does. I think he could still be effective in a relief role.
Velocity isn't important when you know how to pitch. Colon is still pitching.
Fucking tragic, guy was a beast 3 years ago.
He's hit 93-94 a few times this year but the velocity seems to creep downward as he progresses.
He's just not the same guy anymore. The stuff isn't there and he hasn't learned to pitch with the stuff he has.
You can still get hitters out with a 91mph FB - but you have to nail your location and your secondaries have to be really strong. Nothing is really working for Matt right now.
I was encouraged by his first outing and thought he was on the right track. But he's quickly reverting to the same crappy pitcher we saw last year.
He might just be cooked. Which is sad.. he was an elite starter and was still an elite starter after TJS. But the TOS stuff seems like it really sapped him.

so important. Harvey gets rocked because he’s not throwing hard. I wonder if the spring training guns were juiced for Harvey’s starts or if he’s hurt again.

Colon is a unique player and doesn’t really make sense to compare other players to him.
Of course it’s possible to succeed throwing 91mph junk fastballs. That’s not going to happen for Matt Harvey and also won’t happen for the vast majority of pitchers.

Is that what he is maxing out at this point?

3-4 years ago I thought he was on his way to becoming the best pitcher in baseball. Even though he is a Met I still feel bad for the guy.
He just threw a simulated game a few days ago - I think he's pretty close.

It's not so out of this world. From Jamie Moyer to Greg Maddux, there's a large assortment of guys who were effective quality starters without throwing 95. I don't recall Al Leiter or Cone being fireballers but I'm a little young to have seen all of Cone's career.
I'd leave him in the pen for now - we already have Vargas coming back. So to put Gsellman in the rotation, we'd have to pull Matz or Wheeler out of it along with Harvey.
No surprise here!
