"Guys have kind of laughed around the league when we’d be on the clock in Carolina and I’d have my pick in in 28 seconds. If you know what you want, then go do it. Don’t be shy. If you get too cute, you’re going to lose. You’re going to come up on the wrong end and it’s about value."
It's great that he knows who he wants when his turn to pick comes up but why not wait most of the allotted time to see if an offer comes along? If that offer doesn't come, make the pick with 28 seconds to go instead of 28 seconds after the clock starts.

I think fans are always more in love with trades than executives are.
If you know who you want, AND HE'S THERE, ,don't wait for an offer to maybe talk you out of the spot, just to get picks and watch that guy become a star and/or your pick suck, then be sorry.
The comment doesn't preclude trading down even though he's not traded down; likely just that even when they were meh about a pick either there was no/ no decent offer worth moving.
Only curious if he used any solid one liners that BBI posters can use over and over again for the next 5 years. Like in "Reese we Trust" or "Stats are for Losers" or the" gold jacket" or my personal favorite "hog mollies."
after the reign of Reese. If you really listen, you can get a decent idea that he’s leaning towards Barkley IMO. I’d be mildly surprised if it wasn’t Barkley.

You know, people simply hear what they want to hear. I watched and listened to the entire thing, and I did not come away with the impression that they are definitely going Barkley. Sure, he said Barkley is a fantastic prospect and a good RB can prop up the whole team. Gettleman also said the following:
1) If you ask the right questions of a QB, you'll get the answers you are looking for (which can easily suggest they have found the QB they want);
2) The QB class is deep and offers all different types and flavors;
3) Webb won't really have much of an impact on the pick (which again can easily suggest they are going QB at 2); and
4) You can never have too much depth at any position
Now, I want a QB. Is it possible I am hearing what I want to hear? Sure. But I didn't come away from the presser feeling like Barkley is certainly the pick. And do you really think Gettleman is going to heap praise like that on Barkley if he is the drop dead pick at 2? It makes no sense to do that.

In regards to heaping praise on Barkley, did he really do that?? He basically said that anyone can tell what a great prospect he is. I guess that's high praise, but its not over the top to say that about the top player in the draft
(1) He gets to choose HIS #1 QB of a QB-rich Draft; or,
(2) He now holds the most valuable pick in the Draft which will stimulate even richer offers from QB-starved teams, including one from Cleveland moving up from 4 to 2.

I agree.
I also believe we are going Josh Rosen #2... have for months.

It's an Accorsi trait. Peter King told a story this week on his podcast during an interview with Accorsi, about calling up Accorsi on the day before the 2004 draft saying he'd heard San Diego's plan was to sign Eli and then do a deal when the Giants were on the clock.
Accorsi was going to immediately hand in the card for Big Ben, but decided to wait a couple of minutes. San Diego called and the rest is history.
I have to watch ads for Toyota and Geico to watch anything and this billionaire owned franchise can’t properly wire up a PC for sound? Not enough money to shell out for decent audio huh? Pathetic how bad that was in this day and age and it’s nearly every PC that is this terribly wired for sound.

Disappointed he seems to have left in CAR his “blue goose” phrase to describe a unique talent. [sigh]

It’s not overkill at all, it really isn’t because what is interesting is seeing a guy out of his own element because there is a little less comfort and you can’t know too much about a guy. Remember, you’re bringing him into your locker room, how is he going to handle that, do you want him in your locker room? Who is he coming here with? Is he living alone, does he know how to boil water? How is he going to handle New York City? It is all that stuff and we have to find that out because when you come into the National Football League and so many of these guys are 21, 20 years old when they get out there for the first time and there is some 28, 29 year-old man staring them in the face, they better be ready for that because it’s going to be a rude awakening, and if you don’t bring in the kinds of guys that you know are going to be able to stand up to that, then you’re making a mistake.
I don't want to take a dump on the kid, he's here and I hope he turns it around after last season, but this kinda screamed "Eli Apple" to me...
We've all applauded Gettleman and staff for plugging the leaks. So why would they be so effusive in their praise of Barkley? And all the leaks pointing to him?
I'm not buying.
Mara supposedly told his staff to look at QBs. He was okay with the Manning benching (initially). We bring in a QB guru. And then we do as much work as possible on the top four at the position.
I think those actions speak volumes. IDK if it's Darnold or Rosen but I see us taking a QB or trading down. Either that or the Giants haven't learned to keep their mouths closed.

I could be over thinking this, as tends to be the norm here on BBI, but maybe he put this out there so that on draft day, he stalls to make other teams think he's got people on the phone with trade offers? Its been interesting so far with DG....
RE: what is the 20 hr rule he mentions a couple time? Â
...he's trying to scare Cleveland into a must-take-Saquon Barkley with the first pick to clear the field so he can nab the first QB off the Board.
I prefer that he's trying to scare Cleveland into taking Barkley because he wants to take Chubb. Under no circumstances do I want Barkley at #2. Fans will soon see that he cannot break tackles. Chubb is a beast and will make an immediate impact. If Cleveland takes Chubb at #1, I'd be happy with either Allen or Darnold. No Barkley and no Rosen, thanks all the same.
wouldn't he be saying everything possible to make the Browns think that he would not take him? This way he would ensure the Browns are comfortable taking a QB at first and Barkley at 4.
I can't believe we'd not be taking a QB. If we were taking any other position, we probably would have traded down by now.

That’s seems to back up the Darnold or Barkley at 2 theory

It might explain why he has never traded down.

I think if you listen to him with what your intentions are you heard what you want. I really think objectively he did not tip his hand at all.
He even said in regards to Dez I am interested in everybody.
Whether that means he wants to sign him or not it doesn't matter. He is not telegraphing anything.
