Odell
"Hey Dez - would love to but the next couple of weeks are not good as I am working out with teammates and the optics would not be cool... Let's do it next time you're in town."
Base set will be Beckham-Shepard-Ellison-Engram. Lewis and Latimer will be primary backups with Rudolph/Powe et al competing for final spots. If they can get a serviceable WR in rounds four or five, great. Free agents look completely uninspiring - none of them are worth more than a veteran minimum contract...
And is it necessary for Odell to insert himself into this story? Every week it is another cry out for attention from this guy... bizarre.
Wtf did Beckham do?
Here is what he should have done:
Dez
"Hey Odell, I'm going to be in LA and it would be great to work out this week with you - what do you say?"
Odell
"Hey Dez - would love to but the next couple of weeks are not good as I am working out with teammates and the optics would not be cool... Let's do it next time you're in town."
If he was willing to take a pay cut to get minimum why not do it and wait to see what he had in training camp? If he plays like shit cut him, why cut him now and have to pay injury settlemant?
just bringing Dez to camp to see what he has is an option. He's going to want a decent contract and while we would want it structured to get out of easily, I doubt Dez would have that same wish.
a pay cut, it would have been a new contract, which will have cap impact if he's released.
Since we aren't in the season yet, the injury settlement doesn't have a cap impact.
No but what I am saying is if he was willing to go from 6 to minimum what is the harm in seeing what he has?
Vet Min was never mentioned.
I thought I saw minimum somewhere, I re read some articles he agreed to pay cut in March, so he thought he was staying
I read a couple of articles and none state how much of a pay cut.
I'm guessing they had a deal in principle pending a physical. When he failed the physical it was time to move on.

If we had a more veteran, stable crew then fine. However IMO we seem emotionally fragile. Dez, Flowers, Eli Apple, Beckham (who is a good guy but pretty emotional), and likely a few other guys who I don't even know about yet, seem like a bad mixture to me.

He failed his physical. If he passed it, I think theres a chance BM could have come back.

But why now? Why does he have to pass a physical now?
I am sure Beckham or Collins couldn't pass a physical either..
The only reason the physical came into play is because they wanted to cut him...
you are a bit misinformed. The Giants didn't offer the pay cut, Marshall stated he'd be willing to take less money.
That's different from the team approaching him. Again - if they restructured or gave him a new contract - there would be a signing bonus and cap implications.
Secondly, he failed a physical which means they felt it was better to release him now with a settlement than wait for his recovery.
The draft is coming. We also have Ellison to line up at TE while Engram slides outside as a very effective receiver. This is for some situations. I would like to grab a 6’3 WR in the draft.

Maybe I am overthinking this but if you actually look at it there was no reason to cut him now
If he reached a new deal, then that often only becomes official if he passes a physical. Heck, that might have been the trigger for him to take a physical. That he failed.
You might have already answered your own question.
If he failed a physical, it would void the contract offer and it would end up with his release.
The failed physical means nothing that was not the reason he was cut Â
The only reason it says he failed a physical is because they cut him, they had to cut him with that designation...
All we heard all offseasons was they cant chr him until he passes a physical..
If you were going to cut him anyway then why wait? If you didn't care about the injury settlement should of cut him at the beginning of the offseason, why make him think he would be here this year then cut him?
RE: I want it to happen just to see most of BBI squirm Â
Most of the Odell hate is from oldtimers who want players to hand the ball to the ref after a TD. Those days are gone. But you introduce an actual malcontent and the radar will be on high sensitivity and low tolerance.
Gettleman talked about character. Dez flys in the face of that.

Since when is a pay cut a new contract?
Also if this happened in March why would he not take a physical then? Why would he not take a physical before working out at mini camp
you is that there are several reasons why he would have to take a physical and pass to stay on the team. There might even have been stipulations that triggered a decision on what happens in the case of a failed physical.
All of this discussion is speculation since we don't know the details.
Here's what we know - he failed a physical and the team decided to release him with an injury settlement. Not sure why you are fixated on the need to keep him around until camp. It is starting to border on bizarre.

Because all of season we heard he couldn't be cut because he had to pass a physical...
Now he is cut and it is oh yeah because he couldn't pass a physical...
That is where the confusion lies but I will stop since it is to bizarre for you
If not, then it is bizarre to keep going on like the physical was just some random event.
Even you said he had to pass a physical. He didn't. He doesn't seem to be fighting the results and he was released with a settlement.
Your whole argumentation seems to be that the team erred because they didn't wait to cut a fringe piece of the offense, or worse, intentionally set a physical up for the reason of cutting him.

Please show me where I said the team was wrong?
And most likely, he was not just given a physical yesterday and he failed...
The cut most likely happened before he failed a physical..
All I am asking is why now, and why not 2 months ago or why not after training camp...
They let him go through mini camp, so they had no problem there, that is all I am asking...

He was released after failing a physical and was released with an injury settlement. This isn't even up for debate is it?
Why wouldn't it be up for debate?
That is the whole basis of the debate, was he cut because of the physical or just cut and the physical came after to see if there was an injury settlemant
That literally makes zero sense

this is satire, right?
I don't care that they're working out together if that's what they want to do. I just don't want the Giants signing this dude.
I think Gettleman is smart enough not to. But we'll see
Was it offered he accepted and giants cut him anyway?
Or
Was this offered awhile ago he took it, and now giants were like ehh wr are cutting you?

I took it to mean that BM offered to take a pay cut but the team said no thanks

Then there would be no injury settlement...
Actually it is very unusual because why ask him to take a pay cut in March if you had every intention of cutting him?
There would be no reason to ask for a pay cut if you wanted to cut him, there are no guarantees in his deal and no dead money

they were willing to keep him on if he was healthy. He wasn't so they moved on. Not that complicated.

Ok he failed a physical, but so did Landon Collins, I am sure Beckham would to..
My point is what is the harm in keeping him if he already agreed to a pay cut, you can cut him a week before the season and get the same savings
I dont care if he cant pass a physical in April, that means nothing..

I have no problem with the giants cutting marshall, I expected it, I just wanted to know why now?

We do need another starting WR that isn't a smurf .
