NFT: Knicks chat: kenny Smith interview today in new york

nygiants16 : 4/20/2018 10:27 am
So far Knicks have interviewed stackhouse, Woodson, and jackson..

Fizdale is supposed to be this week not sure if it was yesterday or going to be tomorrow..

Blatt is next week...

Smith interviewed for Knicks gm in 08,interviewed to be rockets head coach in 16...

I am actually intrigued by Smith, he is a smart guy, knows the game, I would want a very veteran filled coaching staff though

the daily debate about which coaches are crazy, which ones are sane, which ones are franchise changers and which ones are bible-thumpers.

Problem for smith
nygiants16 : 4/20/2018 10:48 am : link
If Knicks want to hire him they cant because they will get ripped to shreds for it even if they like him..

Knicks have not earned the benefit of the doubt for the simple fact they have ducked for so long...

A team like the spurs they could hire a guy like Smith and no one would say boo
whoevers the coach

should be a banner first year with porzingas possibly missing year. And the beat rolls on

Which they should, next year should be all about development of the young guys and adding another pick...

If you are mad about that go find another team to root for...for once they are not going for a quick fix
Something about Kenny Smith id really like
DennyInDenville : 4/20/2018 11:54 am : link
He could be a great coach.

We need talent though, we must strike GOLD in this draft
My

concern is the Knicks chasing vets to try and be an 8 seed vs. staying the course. Go after guys like Van Vleet not older vets. I could see them contacting Jabari Parker.

Parker or Randle would be my targets if Kanter opts out
Oof
giantsfan44ab : 4/20/2018 1:59 pm : link
Idk if I want any part of Parker’s next deal. 2 ACK tears to the same knee and just a turnstile on defense. He’s Lou Williams in PF form.
I'd give Randle big $ i.e. 4 years, 20mm+
Pep22 : 4/20/2018 2:21 pm : link
which is what he will get
Parker
Pep22 : 4/20/2018 2:23 pm : link
probably gets less. Nerlens Noel is in the same "prove you can stay healthy" conversation.
Noel has to prove
giantsfan44ab : 4/20/2018 2:34 pm : link
He cares about playing the game of basketball as well.

What was his deal this year? He didn't play at all

Carlisle hated him, from tidbits from an older Zach Lowe podcast he didn't seem like the most passionate NBA player. Weird, he seems like a cool guy, he has like a half court on the first floor of his house so he can always get shots up.

Yet another one of those trades that ends up seeming like the team initially claimed as the "loser" looks better off a year or two later (Cousins, Butler, George, etc.)

3 positive tests for marijuana. I know it's 420 but STAY OFF THE WEEEEEED, a wise man once said. I mean dude, it's not hard to evade drug tests as an athlete. Gotta say something if you fail one 3 times.

But circling back to the Knicks, I'd be fine with a 1 year deal for him. Talent and fit are there, still 23.

Knicks will talk to budenholzer
Bud doesn't seem like a fit.

It's a massive culture shock to go from basically running a franchise in Atlanta to trying to coach this franchise which at times is a flaming out of control car.
I've read that Smith and Woodson could be considered as
Canton : 4/20/2018 5:06 pm : link
Assistant Coaches.
Steve Mills heard Phoenix reached out to Bud
bceagle05 : 4/20/2018 5:07 pm : link
and thought, "Oh, what a good idea!"
Can't imagine Kenny Smith
bceagle05 : 4/20/2018 5:08 pm : link
would leave his perch at TNT to be an assistant coach, but who knows?

Doubtful
Stackhouse
Jon in NYC : 4/20/2018 5:13 pm : link
has aways felt like the most natural fit with what Perry has said imo. Has he interviewed yet?
Yeah, Phoenix is on the upswing and a nice place to live.
bceagle05 : 4/20/2018 5:15 pm : link
They're notoriously cheap though.

I'd still lean toward Stackhouse as my first choice, but Bud would be a heck of a choice, depending on compensation.
Yeah, Stackhouse was here Monday and Tuesday I think.
bceagle05 : 4/20/2018 5:16 pm : link
He's definitely in the mix.

That is also his hometown team as well, weird

Monday and Tuesday
I mean Atlanta is comparable to Phoenix

Phoenix's owner is one of the worst in the NBA. I'm sure he didn't want to pay up for Bud. He would be a home run for the Knicks.

That is what I was thinking
Dolan
TyreeHelmet : 4/20/2018 6:38 pm : link
I missed the discussion yesterday, but I had no problem with what he said in that interview. What he said about Jackson was 100% correct.
I have a Knicks question
adamg : 4/20/2018 6:38 pm : link
Can we pencil in Trey Burke to PG in 2018-9? Should we be looking at 1-2 with our second round pick?
I could've done without Dolan
bceagle05 : 4/20/2018 6:54 pm : link
lecturing us on what it takes to be a good coach nowadays (what the hell does he know?), but his Phil comments were fine. He repeated a lot of what Mills said in his presser - I don't know if that should encourage me or scare the hell out of me.

I think he will get the starter role and minutes to go with it, even if they do draft a PG (which I don’t think they will). He’ll have an audition to see if he’s the PG this team locks down for the long haul.

And I think he’ll do it, but I’m usually optimistic about young Knicks players.

No I don't think so. Ideally you want him coming off the bench.

Who is this starting PG the Knicks are going to acquire in the offseason? I’m not seeing it...
