The Giants are sitting in the power position of the NFL draft, holding the fates of several teams and players in the palms of their hands. And everyone is watching, waiting and guessing, because no one is really sure what Dave Gettleman is going to do.

And that, by the way, is just how the Giants GM likes it.

"Like it?" he said on Thursday. "I love it. Are you kidding me?"

He might as well enjoy it, because it's part of the spoils of the miserable, 3-13 season the Giants just endured. Their intentions aren't clear because they have an amazing array of options. They get to choose between their possible Quarterback of the Future, the best overall player, or perhaps just the best defensive player in the draft. Or they can trade down and still get Gettleman's coveted "gold jacket" player at any number of positions while loading up on future No. 1 picks, or just a bunch of picks in later rounds.

That's a good problem to have … as long as the choice he makes is right.

So what is Gettleman going to do? Here's everything you need to know -- and everything I know at the moment, with the help of an array of team and league sources over the last few months -- about who that pick is going to be:

“Why would we trade down and pass on either the best QB or player on our board?” So true.

Agreed, Ralph does a very good job shilling for Gettleman. But is John Dorsey fool enough to fall for it?

conference gettleman sounded like a trade down was a real possibility when he was talking about the importance of depth and about building from the lines outward. ralph seems to basically dismiss trading down.

Really interesting quote. Certainly sounds to me like:
1. Barkley
2. Darnold, or
3. You better wow us.

Of course, that could all be posturing to make the Browns pony up.

that's been the "smoke" all along....good position to be in
Sounds to me like he wants Cleveland

to make him an offer he can't refuse.

It all depends on whether Clev wants Barkley

They take Barkley at 1 and will snag one of the QB's at 4. If they like Chubb at DE they probably take a QB first and snag Chubb at 4.
Cleveland hasn't had a franchise QB

since Kosar (about 25 years?). They've tried drafting QBs lower in the first rd and have failed multiple times. The list of QBs they've passed on early in the 1st round would make me sick if I was a Browns fan.

They have a chance to get the #1 QB prospect, I don't believe the new GM is going to risk having to settle for the 3rd or 4th.

If they do and the guy fails (and the #1 succeeds), it will be many more years of misery. I would be pretty shocked if they don't go QB at 1.
