I think Coney just hit the nail right on the head � there isn�t nearly enough of a velocity differential between his fastball and changeup.

He's complete trash. If we're lucky, he'll eventually get it together and bump himself up to being at least an average starter. This team will really need a top end starting pitcher if they seriously want to compete for a shot at the World Series.

But they need to stop alternating wins and losses if they even want to think about that.

Look at what the Cubs had in prospects a few years ago and what they have today. They still have rotation issues. I think everyone is playing the same game now and clear prospects are worth holding on to unless you need to make a move. We are not one starter from being shoulder to shoulder with the Astros.

Is going to have to find somebody to eat innings.

Could make sense to look at a guy like Samardzija. Not an Ace by any stretch, but has been a durable innings eater. 190 innings of 4-handle ERA ball is exactly what this team needs.

Might need to overpay a bit in prospects to make the $$ work under the threshold, but still shouldn�t be tremendously expensive.

as terrible as the starters have been, this team will need someone to step up and play the Ramiro Mendoze role as well. Maybe German can do it, but he has to be consistent

But Gray could just be one of those guys who wilts in NY. The guy was legit in Oakland. He may be legit again in Pittsburgh or wherever one day.

I don�t claim to know enough to point out a mechanical flaw, but it seems mental with him. The guy�s fastball and curve move enough to be an effective starter. But he nibbles and nibbles and bounces no less than 6 pitches an inning it seems. Once he walks a guy, the nibbling and bouncers multiply.

Sanchez gets plenty of grief for passed balls, some of it earned - but I don�t think any catcher ever made could have handled Gray�s crap tonight.

He should be the first one out of town. I'd tell him for his next start he better throw strikes or I'd yank his ass in the first inning. You can't be missing the plate by 3 feet all day long and expect to get the close calls. Not gonna happen. Throw strikes or get outta dodge. I don't care if they pound the ball at least it would be more entertaining than watching 55 ft curve balls and fast balls 3 feet outside.
