Doubtful. Maybe some day. Plawecki cant get back soon enough.
Its tough. AGone has three hits in the last two games and plays a much better defense than Bruce would. I was all for Bruce maybe getting one start a week there to get Nimmo in the lineup a little more but it's not something they are willing to do it seems. At least yet.
Im not saying were there yet, but keep an eye on it. The final answer might be Bruce at 1B but AGonz is hitting. Players with far larger contracts than Bruce have taken a seat.

Albies is a damn good player
Quote:
That HR was off a 100 mph pitch for those still worried about Thor only being able to throw 98/99 his last few starts. lol
Albies is a damn good player
What does that have to do with anything? Im referring to the posters questioning Thor's velocity.

No need to get pissy. I was just pointing out a good play made by a promising young player. Did anyone seriously worry about Thor's velocity?
Why would I be defensive over Albies? I love the kid I was just impressed that he actually went deep off Thor.

Your comment seemed weirdly defensive over Albies or something for some reason. Yes posters were seriously worried about Thor throwing 98 mph in 37-degree weather. It was a real thing.

Defending that he's good as if I was swiping him. Let's move on please. lol

Mickey Callaway and Matt Harvey haven't talked about Harvey's job status yet. But Callaway noted his history of success sending guys to the bullpen on a short-term basis.
"We can help guys," Callaway said. "Guys have to be willing to be helped." https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/mets-matt-harvey-bullpen-rotation-1.18181188
Our best hitters are the outfielders and they are all cold. It won't last.

Good luck with that Mickey. Theres no way Harvey agrees to go to the pen. Ultimate team player.
1-1!
This offense will get better as the year goes on. Whole OF won't be cold together for much of the year (I hope).
Sometimes a trip to AAA to rebuild confidence is all that is needed. Dansby Swanson was awful last season and was sent down for 3-4 weeks. When he returned to the majors his play improved and he is off to a good start this season.
Personally I wouldnt mind seeing him one more time with the understanding that if you fail you are in the bullpen. Be curious to see how he reacts to that kind of binary event.
Still slow as can be.

is such an elite prospect. Tools everywhere. Remember how young he is. He needs to play every day and get ABs vs MLB pitching.

Well, I think its a bit premature to send down Rosario. I mean, hes hitting .246. Not great but not horrible. Swanson was sub .200 for a bit. Id like to see if he can turn things up a notch against MLB pitching. Theres nothing to gain from posting boosted hitting stats in Vegas.

The problem is that he's out either way. You arent giving Harvey his spot back and putting Vargas in the pen after Harvey has been bad for a month and his stuff is noticeably not there. You are right that Harvey can refuse assignment to Vegas but Mickey was literally just talking about it as a possibility before the game tonight. It does sound like they are leaning pen though which is fine. He would basically replace Bautista who clearly isnt ready anyway. .
Pretty amazing this team is where it is with the lack of production out there.

I agree with you that it is too soon. I was suggesting that if he continue to struggle then send him down for a confidence boost.

Really cant wait until Cespedes, Conforto, and Bruce start heating up. I'd settle for one of them heating up right now.
That should have been an error on Bruce. Home cooking score keeping screws Thors ERA.
It's pretty ridiculous. I keep waiting for the bubble to burst.

We could use some luck like that lol.

Ride it out, my friend. We have a young guy hitting the cover off the ball but the Skip has him rotting on the bench in favor of the bumbling fool Jay Bruce.

I've never been very high on Nimmo but he is starting to win me over. Why he isn't playing more is beyond me.
Man!
IDK. That was super close. At worst it looked like a tie.
Seems like in a game of inches the Braves are getting all of them tonight. How much longer before the dam breaks?
And a thousand times better fielder than Bruce.
Do these guys learn anything in the minors about catching?
Quote:
Talk about a gift. Can any of these catchers throw a damn ball even close?

Funny thing is Sherlock was supposed to be the guy to help with these catching woes. That was supposed to be the reason, you put up with his shitty 3B coaching.
Gsellman hasn't pitched more than 2 innings this season.
Quote:
thing about Lugo and Gsellman. They are ALWAYS pitching 3 innings. Maybe there is a reason nobody in the league does that? Do they prepare as starters or relievers? Cant be easy.

He has. He just didnt retire an out. Either way, my point stands. These guys are always going double innings. Im not surprised Lugo is suddenly having control issues.

any idea why?
Just spitballing. Not criticizing.
Just bares monitoring is all. It will be great if it works. Im still optimistic and prefer what Ive seen from the bullpen and Mickey over what Terry used to do.
Oh well lets steal this game somehow.
You do know that the Mets cant hit, right?
nevermind, he can.
Yup, good call.
Hey, thats what I called him! Totally looks like him.

Nope. Sit Bruce and Cespedes. Let the kids play.
Big, and frankly unexpected, win.
ha -- well put! Dirty, but so happy.
Brilliant. Lol
14-5!
deGrom tomorrow.
Lets GO!!!
Stats dont matter for some things.
Hes coming through in big spots.
You play him while hes feeling physically great and let him work through it.
Im still happy to have Cespedes around obviously. He'll come out of it.
I dont have an issue with being patient. Hell, that's my MO. If that's who you are? Great.
Most fans dont react that way though. Every slump is the end of the world, etc.
I remember last year Granderson had like a 5 wRC+ in April. lol. Everybody wanted him dead. The guy was up to around 115 by the deadline. Its the same crap every year.
The only real difference I see is that we have been relatively healthy. Just having guys like Familia and Syndergaard back makes a massive difference. It just shows how badly injuries wrecked our season last year.
It sounds weird, but all this actually makes me even more optimistic for this season. What happens when guys like Conforto and Cespedes start raking? What happens when Syndergaard is going 7 deep and dominating guys like we know he can? What happens when Swarzak joins the pen? There's still a ton of upside for this team we havent seen yet.
Brilliant. Lol
You are trying way too hard.
Cespedes has gotten three big hits this season and has sucked the rest of the time. Maybe if he doesnt strike out four times we win the game in 9 instead of destroying our bullpen. Either way, its non sustainable. Hes gonna need to pick it up. And Im sure he will. But nobody should be exempt from taking a seat for a couple of games when they literally strikeout every other at bat.
If they go 71-71 that takes us to 85-76
well-played
Whats this from?
I think that is because as Mets fans we are not accustomed to having a lock-down pen and and a manger who knows how to use the pen (not since Bobby V).
So, yes, Mets offense looked anemic but Braves got nothing going against Mets pen. And Atlanta's pen is also very strong, so it was not just the Mets hitters. It was actually a good game. Mets made some mistakes. Braves did a good job throwing guys out. In the end, Mets prevailed because they are the stronger team.

One of the most disingenuous statements of all time...
Whats this from?
Cespedes playing golf?
I hate when people make the excuse that a player was horrible the whole game but came through when it mattered. It doesnt make any sense. Did he not have to put the bat on the ball in the previous 4 at bats? Was there not an opportunity to contribute to the offense when he struck out 4 times in a row? Maybe we could have won the game in 9 innings instead of crushing the BP but having to use them through 12 innings.
Im glad hes had a few clutch games (through luck or not) but I cant stress this enough...Cespedes is killing this team right now.
Quote:
he put the bat on the ball when he had to. And he went with the pitch. The reason it went through is only partly luck because the infield had him shaded the other way. You put the ball in play. You go with the pitch instead of trying to hit the big HR. That's how you win games. And that's why sabremetrics only tell you so much.

Thats like saying Mookie Wilsons AB in the 1986 WOrld Series wasnt big because after all if Mookie had hit a three run homer earlier in the game, Mets would have won in regulation.
Your manager bunted a guy over to put him in scoring position for you and Conforto. Conforto pops up. Now it is all on you because its the 12th inning and bullpen is stretched. Thats big AB and Cespedes game through.
The guy is tied for the league lead in RBIs and people are criticizing him
Because his OPS is not up to snuff. Ces is paid to drive in runs and that is what he is doing. Nuff said

Official: #Mets recall Corey Oswalt, option Gerson Bautista to @LasVegas51s.
Excellent. This is 100% the right call. Glad to see Callaway pay no attention to name value here. If Harvey is possibly going to help this team, he has a whole reinvention to go through. He needs to pursue that retool in low leverage situations. Vargas should stablize the back-end of the rotation.
Really glad this was done quickly and that the right call was made.
Good organizational work here

First off, I never said that Cespedes' hit wasn't big. Let's keep to the facts and not make stuff up to support your narrative.
Second, if Mookie had hit a 3 run HR earlier in the game, is it safe to say that we wouldn't have had to rely on an error to win that game? It was still a big play. But more because of Bill Buckner...not Mookie hitting a routine ground ball right at the first baseman.
If your point is that Mookie "put the bat on the ball", well then, he sure did. He also put the bat on the ball 4 out of 5 times that game. Cespedes struck out 4 times last night and has a 40% k rate. He's actually been quite bad at putting the bat on the ball. In fact, I doubt he'd be getting as much criticism if he actually COULD put the bat on the ball.
Cespedes overall stats are god-awful, has a negative WAR, strikes out every other at bat. He deserves to be criticized if a fan chooses to.
Nuff said? Jesus.

I'm actually quite shocked by this. I agree with a lot of what you said. Maybe there is hope for Harvey to turn it around but who knows how he is going to handle this move (from an attitude perspective).
Maybe he'll handle this just fine.
