Sources: The #Giants are in the process of trading for #Broncos P Riley Dixon. When Marquette King signed in Denver, he was on the trading block and NYG swooped in. Punter - ( New Window )
The Broncos were going to cut Dixon. There is no way the Giants are trading a pick this year because they don't have a 6th or 7th. This is most likely a conditional 2019 7th round pick where the condition is that Dixon wins the punting job or plays in a certain number of games.
in 2016 for a punter (Andy Lee) and the Browns ultimately turned that pick into Jarvis Landry.
When I read that the other day, I thought, "I hope he doesn't do that again."
3-13 team should not be giving up picks.
Ok first of all Andy Lee is a beast. He has a huge leg.. .He averaged over 50 yards a kick and 44 net average one year. That is insane. Second of all Carolina was close to winning and a big leg would be a huge difference we aren't there. That year though with Carolina he averaged 49.1 yards a punt.
So the person on here is right... it will be a conditional 2019 pick most likely a 7th rounder.
a 45.6 avg with a 40.2 Net with 23 out of 73 punts inside the 20.
Wing
44.1 avg and only 36.7 Net only 19 out of 95 inside the 20.
So not punting in Denver and only 1.5 yard avg less = nothing. Inside 20 is dependent on field position, so the Giants sucky 3 and out offense probably had Wing punting from the 30-35 yardline.
Net is as much a function of coverage and height and depth.

It is posted that his out of Denver is higher also. He also had less TB and Dixon only had 3 to his 9... Throw in he had 3 less FC despite having more punts also shows he isn't getting any height on the ball.

RE: RE: RE: Gettleman gave the Browns a fourth rounder Â
be trading a 4th rounder for a punter like he did in Carolina...
Andy Lee was a Pro Bowler and an All Pro. Not quite the same thing.
Dixon was 14th in average. His net isn't good, but that's because the Broncos special teams was really bad. They were right near the Giants in punt return average.
Most likely it's a conditional 7th round pick in 2019. He's on a rookie contract for 2 years. If he sucks it cost you basically nothing to cut him. If he doesn't you got your Punter for cheap.

^^ this... his game against the Chargers where they had a good return for a TD lowered his average net return away. Otherwise on the road he averaged 41.7 net away from Denver
The Giants have two 7th round picks in next year's draft, the second being the Rams' seventh rounder, which they acquired as part of the Alec Ogletree trade.
Gettleman deals the 7th rounder he made St. Louis throw in with Ogletree. Makes him look pretty smart.
Also, I feel like the purpose of 7th round picks is to get dibs on a guy you will want in UDFA anyway. Since UDFAs all pretty much make the same money at their respective positions, my guess is the Giants are often confident they can convince any which one they want to come to the Big Apple and play for the most historically renowned organizations in football.
with their 5th round pick. Kid's gonna be a good one for a while. They still can and lose nothing if this deal is for a conditional 7th round pick next year.

He's solid but you have to take into account that he was kicking in Denver.

can't be worse than Wing was last year so even if he's the 25th best punter in the NFL it's still a big upgrade!

Actually his splits were about the same. Last year he averaged 45.7 at home and for the year he averaged 45.6 so not much difference.
Yes I just posted... 45.7 and on the road 45.5

A: I’m not going to do that. I’m going to tell you that right now. Right now, I have no intention of dipping into future drafts. None.
Based on this comment, it makes me wonder if the trade for a punter is a player for player trade?
Lee only got through half that year (2016) before he went on injured reserve with a hamstring pull.
Then got cut before the '17 season, shortly after Gettleman was fired.
Bottom line, not a good trade, at all.

Oh I am not saying it was a good trade. Just saying that the player was one of the best punters in the league. This is not the same thing.

Fell off? He went from 45.7 with a net 41.3 to 45.6 with a net of 40.2 ... that isn't really falling off. Wing was also making a lot more money

The lack of knowing what they are talking about is so frustrating on this site. He is better than Wing and makes less. Do you understand now?
Don’t think they could until his physical. Should have signed King anyway

he was very good at syracuse
Too much. Shit trade. Team is basically the Knicks. =)

I feel the same. It's essentially a way to lock up your priority UDFAs.
Building a roster with Syracuse or BC players!
DG sucks!
