YANKEE28 : 4/21/2018 11:09 pm
Have not seen this posted on BBI.

Worth listening. Perhaps some more clues.

Reassuring...

DG says all the right things, and Papa looks more ready for prime time than even Neon Deion.
some thoughts
YANKEE28 : 4/21/2018 11:34 pm : link
DG says you build a football team from the inside out.

My Translation: you start building with a solid line on both sides of the ball (not skill positions)

DG says that football comes down to 3 things:

1.You have to be able to run the ball
2.You have to be able to stop the other team from running the ball
3.You have to be able to rush their passer

My Translation: we are not taking a QB in round one.

So the Giants will never select another QB, because having a QB and passing the football is unimportant to winning, right? Then why did Gettleman talk about QB hell?

I guess from this point forward we will exclusively draft OL, DEs, and RBs. WRs and QBs optional for our 1960s offense.

Not at all.

Again-My Translation. You fix those 3 areas FIRST. Last year the Giants were near last in those 3 areas. I believe that is what DG wants to fix FIRST.
This isn't 1972
BestFeature : 4/22/2018 12:35 am : link
Those things are all important, but the QB is easily the most important position on a roster. Teams that lose year in and year out all have one thing in common, no QBs. It's rare that you're Jacksonville and can get by with a mediocre starter. Let's see if they succeed beyond one year.
Interesting
Gregorio : 4/22/2018 12:38 am : link
to hear DG discussing his draft approach. He seems confident about it. He's proud of finding Andrew Norwell and signing him as a UDFA in Carolina.
I just want to know
illmatic : 4/22/2018 12:41 am : link
why he's watching film on a Nintendo Wii. That's definitely a Wii controller in his hands.

really cool video. id give just about anything to be in that room on draft night
The real question for drafting a QB now is if Eli is done?
George from PA : 4/22/2018 5:19 am : link
If Eli has 2 years of decent football, then we can assume 3rd year extension while development of Webb plus other QB additions during this time....

I understand the opportunity of drafting a QB Thursday but risks are high....5 year set back.

None are given.

For me, this choice would be far easier if these guys grew in 2017 as expected. Darnold regressed. Rosen got another concession. Allen continued with low completion in a wide open system....Baker to was only one that blossomed but defense is optional in his league and not a typical Giants QB
I believe in building inside out as well
UberAlias : 4/22/2018 6:35 am : link
But you have to hope he’s looking at that holistically from the perspective of the overall draft. I can see the other guys, but if this man passed on Darnold because of some dogma, we really blew it.
Let's talk about "inside out"
Nomad Crow on the Madison : 4/22/2018 6:54 am : link
On the very inside you have two players: the center and the QB. Rosen with the first pick; Daniels, Price or Ragnow with the second.
When an unexpected opportunity to select
joeinpa : 4/22/2018 7:20 am : link
High in a quarterback Rich draft comes, you might have to change the order in which you hope to build a team
The problem is
UberAlias : 4/22/2018 7:27 am : link
You hope they apppreciate that this pick is special. These opportunities don’t come often. You can talk about 5 year mistakes but there are 2 sides to that coin. You pass on a great one and it could be a 15 year mistake. You may not get another shot like it. That doesn’t mean you have to take a QB. But you sure as hell better not rule it out on the basis of some dogma about building up front. These opportunities aren’t going to wait to come knocking when it fits into your schedule.
It's good to hear the GM

unlike Reese who never said a word to the press. PR is important in any organization. TY DG

The first two are literally the opposite of how the NFL is trending. The last time there was a close 50-50 split on teams passing on second down was 2008.

Wade Phillips has changed his scheme to get to the QB first and stop the run on the way to the QB.

Passing the football and stopping the pass is more conducive to winning football games than running and stopping the run.
Draft is loaded with good RBs
UberAlias : 4/22/2018 8:00 am : link
It’s probably the deepest position.

I bet if you ask every GM in the NFL they would more or less give the same answer.

His response isn’t a hint at all at what the #2 pick will be, IMO.
He drafted an offensive skill position player 9th overall

When given the chance. It seems like people really buy into this hog mollie thing just to confirm their own biases.
Importance of lower round picks
KeoweeFan : 4/22/2018 10:11 am : link
I found it interesting that in the last two interviews DG stressed the importance of depth gained from players in the lower rounds or UDFA (e.g. C+ players helping to avoid 4th Q letdowns).
That does not tell us what he WILL do, but it does reinforce the possibility of trading down if he feels the circumstances warrant; despite his history of never having traded down before.
Great video

He is comparing Chubb to the 1990 Version of LT in Super Techmo Bowl. Wants to see if he's worth the 2nd pick ; )😜

He hasn't traded down yet because maybe he liked the player on the board. He has traded up a ton. He already said he won't trade to pick 1.

He could trade down. Lots of chatter about potential trades with Cleveland, Denver and even the 3 way trade with Buffalo & Cleveland and another with Buffalo and Indy. All I can say is it is just as possible to see a trade as it is for them to stay at 2 and pick Barkley.

I like the idea of a trade with Cleveland, 2 for 4,33,35, 4th rounder, 2019 1st or 2nd rounder. 5 picks for moving back 2 spots.
