NYG looking to move Flowers during the draft? ESPN's Jordan Raanan said "don't be surprised" if the Giants look to trade OT Ereck Flowers during the draft. The former first-round pick has been a no-show for offseason workouts, a decision that has not been "well-received" within the organization. Even with Flowers due a reasonable $2.4 million in the final year of his rookie deal—the Giants are expected to decline his fifth-year option—the 23-year-old may struggle to draw trade interest. One anonymous NFC scout told Raanan he "wouldn't want him in the building" while adding that Flowers "sounds like he's not worth the trouble." Flowers earned PFF's No. 63 tackle grade out of 83 qualifiers last year. |
I’m reasonably sure they’ve been trying to move him for a while.
Alas, I guess the world needs ditch diggers too...
Jeez, between Flowers and Apple, Reese sure know how to pick'em.

Does he have an agent? He negotiated his own rookie deal or his dad did. I cannot remember
I've wondered whether he could be a throw in in a Cleveland trade, since Thomas retired.
Lol!

We swap the 2nd and the 4th. Cleveland gives us their 3 #2's and we send them Flowers and an apology.

I wouldnt go that far, Apple had serious family issues to contend with last season, and he certainly showed more as a rookie compared to last year too. Needs another chance which this new regime has already gone on record saying he has a "clean slate". On the other hand, Flowers has been flopping around the field since the get-go.

But who would do this?

Apple has at least shown some desire to start over with a clean slate and make a go of it this year. Flowers has already squandered whatever good will the new regime extended to him.
This seems much more likely to me than a draft day trade. The guy's value really couldn't be any lower right now, and in April nobody is desperate for a tackle. In August someone might be.

It doesn't hurt that one of Webb's biggest supporters in last year's draft is still in the building. President of player evaluation Chris Mara (who is also part of the ownership group) was perhaps the strongest voice on Webb last year.
Yeah I think we've all been hoping it was Reese and not actually Mara doing the drafting.
It just seems that way to me.

+1

I disagree. I think he'll play LT for someone, which is what he wants to do. The kid's 23 and reasonably talented. His attitude is awful, but there's always teams like Cincinnati and Dallas to take turds onto their teams.
Recall plenty of comments along the line of "Flowers looks much better this preseason" and "...Flowers has not been the problem on the O-line this year" and "Flowers hasn't given up a sack for weeks".
You know who you are...
he has to produce content daily even when there isn't a story.
There is no reason to move flowers at this point.

Not sure why we would generalize like this. Kind of doesn't really make sense with him playing through injury as a rookie though. Or with the dozens and dozens of highly drafted millionaires who went on to have great careers.
Maybe the evaluation was just wrong and he's simply not good enough, rather than assuming with really no leg to stand on that he'd somehow be better if he was less lazy.
Only reason he statistically looked better, was because Eli got rid of the ball quicker.....but in doing so, that didn't allow Eli to have second reads on guys that may have been more open...
Someone posted a video where he whiffed on 3 attempted blocks on ONE SINGLE PLAY......That's all you need to see.....my favorite is the 4th and one against Philly at the goal line where his man beat him to the inside to make the tackle...
Really trying to be optimistic about how "improved" the OL will ultimately be.
Just getting a team to take his contract and give us some cap space would be worth it... a day three pick would be a home run.
Can we dump Flowers and Ranaan? I hate them both.
(I suspect Marshall was in the same boat. To me DG looked a little ill at ease in the PC when someone mentioned Marshall's release until he remembered the failed physical and got back on stride. That suggests to me the decision on Brandon was made before the physicals.)
As mentioned previously, Erik would have been shown the door with Hart last year if not for his high draft position and therefore possible trade value. You don't have to wear a tinfoil hat to believe that management has told Erik they will try to trade him and to stay away from the complex until something is settled (keeping him out of the locker room). He's got to be worth at least a 6th or a 7th for someone to take a flyer on him.
To me you'd get little to no value for him at this point.

And whenever there's a lull, Raanan loves to take a shot at the guy who shoved him in the locker room.
For those questioning why trade when he might be cut? To circumvent the priority in a waiver claim. A team such as Jax, Pats, Saints, etc. who might not have a shot of claiming him over teams such as Indy, Clev, Bears, etc. might be willing to give up a 7th. Also, as someone mentioned, he could be packaged with a pick to move up.
I mentioned last week when he didn't show that his absence might be more team driven instead of his own personal decision. Even though the activities last week were only strength conditioning, if he had suffered an injury then he would have been useless in a trade. The team might have informed him that they are going to seek a trade partner during the draft and to stay away until after the draft.

Clearly this is garbage but whats he going to do?

While there is no love lost between the two, the fact that Jordan didn't dig into the reason why Flowers was the only one who didn't show up last week was curious. Like a moth to a flame, it seems like a ready-made story for Jordan to do some digging on his arch nemesis.
