NFT: NFT: Sound System Assistance

I have a question for audio experts.

I would like to connect my Mac laptop to my receiver so I can listen to music through my sound system.

I used the HDMI connection from my Blu Ray player to connect my laptop. The computer screen appears on my TV but audio does not. I am a bit confused. I would have expected the audio from the computer to come through my speakers. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
did you go to system preferences, sound

and check that output was set to external speakers? sometimes you have to switch it back and forth (internal then external) to get it to take. a Mac thing.

otherwise it might have to do with the way your personal sound system is connected.

Are you hearing any audio out of your Mac, or via the audio-out from the MAC on headphones? Your intended signal chain is; Mac to BluRay to TV to stereo speaker. I suspect the Mac settings need to be tweaked like Marky suggests.

What I did for this; I purchased an Apple product called Airport Express ($99 retail) which lets me send audio signal over my home's wifi to my stereo. It takes signal from any apple product. Nice thing is all my apple devices are cable-free.

Thanks guys.
