Mike Budenholzer is genuinely interested in the Knicks’ job, according to an NBA source who has spoken to the Hawks coach. “New York’s his top choice,’’ the NBA source said. “If they offered him the job, he’d say yes. He wants to live in New York.’’ Moreover, Budenholzer appears so disillusioned with the current Hawks’ philosophy, it’s difficult to imagine him returning. Atlanta is adopting the blueprint set by the “Trust The Process’’ Sixers. Budenholzer was the top decision-maker on personnel until last summer when Travis Schlenk was named general manager. Now the 48-year-old, the 2015 Coach of the Year, has no power regarding personnel. |
On paper, this isn't as bad a job as people think - KP and some other decent young pieces, a top 10 pick, a full slate of picks going forward, and cap space next summer.
And yes dolan is a jackass, but from a coaches standpoint who wouldn't want to work for a guy who would give them and spend anything they wanted..
Perry and mills have said they want a joint effort with coach, so maybe they promised him say
You must be new here
THIS. Also, working for Dolan is a total cover. When the Knicks inevitably stink, people will blame it on the building, and not you. You'd get a new job in no time.
D'Antoni got the Lakers job over Phil and then a 4th HC job in Houston. I don't think he was tarnished much if at all. Maybe amongst Knicks fans. JVG also left unscathed.
Bud would be a homerun hire. Can Dolan just send ATL 10 million and call it a day? Is Bud going to be okay with having a down year next year? Because the best path is for the Knicks to unload some vets, be patient and limited with KP next year and get a top 5 pick next year.
Stackhouse is an intriguing up-and-comer, and Blatt and Fizdale are fine candidates, but Budenholzer looks like the cream of the crop right now.
ESPN Mock Lottery - ( New Window )
The basketball gods have been punishing the Knicks ever since the Ewing lottery. Knicks will probably end up picking 10th.
Milwaukee does have the best roster. I doubt they spend big on a coach and you also have to live in Milwaukee....
