Seeing to get this thread going as we are 3 days away from the premiere.
So far no reviews yet as they will be coming in on Wednesday. But one person has already said the following
"lets put it this way, you will cry and the ending will be monumental. Its quite obvious that when the movie finishes, you will know the title of the next film and segways into the people that arent in the movie"
I enjoyed the movie. It obviously is half a story, we get the rest next year. I don't go to Marvel movies for serious drama, I go for fun popcorn movies and they usually deliver.

Makes no sense to me
Because after a while we come to the reality that superhero’s are invinsible. At which point the films become less dramatic as we realize sticky situations will result in positive outcomes.
I mean, a dozen superheroes are now dead and we realize all are coming back to life. Not really climatic.
This is an incomplete line of reasoning, in my opinion.
We know that most of these characters are coming back, yes. But we don't know the how or the "what else?" We don't know the plot to get them back.
By that logic, no nonfiction movie can be climatic. We know what's going to happen after all!
The whole idea of a hero falls apart. If we know the main character is going to survive, why watch the movie at all? We know he/she is going to survive!
The whole idea of a hero falls apart. If we know the main character is going to survive, why watch the movie at all? We know he/she is going to survive!
If we know a hero can't die, then the audience becomes less invested in fight scenes. There's less emotions involved when a hero is in a sticky situation because we know they are eventually going to circumvent it.
How exactly does this make the entire viewing experience better?
Only real complaints I had was there is very little Winter Soldier, Capt, and Hulk in it and I don't love the GoG involvement.
Yup. That part will be great. I was thinking that from a storytelling standpoint (and probably financially considering the contracts of everyone that was in this first movie) that the next movie will really be a better narrative because they won't have to bounce around as much.
I loved it, but it does strain under the amount of characters involved.
They are all together in Wakanda at the end, except for Iron Man. I think Rocket gets a ship and flies to Titan to retrieve Iron Man and Nebula.
Interestingly the Infinity Gauntlet series in the comics is almost entirely about what happens after Thanos snaps his fingers. Some Easter Eggs from that comic:
The line that Ebony Maw says to Thanos is the same line that Mephisto says to Thanos in the comics
Hulk lands in Dr. Strange's lair with Wong and Strange there - in the comics it is the Silver Surfer
Thanos is resting at the end, similar to what he is doing at the end of comic series
I'm sure there are many other Easter Eggs but I tried to do these without the assistance of Google.
* They made Hulk a HUGE PUSSY!!! Started in Ragnarok.
* How does Thor breathe and talk in space????
* They overpowered Thanos, they made him unstoppable; except that he wasn't - Disney had Starlord ruin the plan.
* BUT, why didn't Doctor Stange just tell Starlord that Gamora was dead, so he didn't freak out, if he looked at 14M option of the future and there was only one solution? Wouldn't part of the solution be to not let Starlord ruin the plan? Boom, movie over!!!
Why not have Strange just reverse time again with the avengers, stop the whole thing before it happens!
So killing Vision is bad, no one is allowed to die on the team, except for the 1000s of Wakandan fighting to protect him, oh and 1/2 the universe?
Stark's tech is better than anything in the universe?
Thanos seemed to respect Stark, why?
Black Widow (5'4" human) and ‎Michonne (5'7" human)[Walking Dead] - no powers - and they have no problem taking on a 9ft tall super woman warrior - no injuries?
So Starlord is supposed to kill Gamora to not give up the secret and does it, but in the same act situation Gamora gives up the secret to not have Thanos kill Nebula?
---Loved the jokes and Spider Man comments - the Aliens thing sis just awesome!
---Amazing Art, Landscapes, and Costumes
---Everyone comes back - they are sending Tony Stark & Ant Man back in time to before the 1st Avengers to stop everything.

Notice the Avengers Cap Uniform and It's NYC!!
So it's a typical Marvel reset.
That tells you that everything Dr. Strange did, or let happen, from that point on probably occurred in that one single scenario in which they won.
He let Starlord ruin the plan.
He willingly gave up the time stone.
He traded for Iron Man's life because he needs Iron Man in that one scenario.
He said right before he died, "this is the only way", meaning in the one scenario.
Also, in the Dr. Strange movie, they say that you can only see in the future until you die, so Dr. Strange must have been alive in order to see the single scenario in which they won, so he must no that killing half the universe, including himself, was necessary to get to that one single scenario.
* They made Hulk a HUGE PUSSY!!! Started in Ragnarok.
They didn't make Hulk a pussy, he had never gotten his ass kicked before and he couldn't deal with that. Based on the pics from imdb that you shared, though, he's clearly back in the next film.
Strange let everything happen that needed to happen for them to beat Thanos, as has been said here. I think it's kind of obvious that was his plan.
It's just lame to use time travel again to resolve everything again; deus ex machina. Just like in the X-Men: Days of Future Past movie when Logan reset the timeline to allow them to change story lines. They did it in Star Trek.
Would have been better to just let some of the hero die, permanently, in doing so save the universe.
Otherwise, we might as well have them pull back on the camera and show the writers / artists like the did in the Deadpool comic!!!
I want to see the Marvel Zombie story line.

This was a great effort in trying to tell this story on the big screen. There's so much going on, constant and dramatic scene and character changes didn't allow for better dialog and inter-character conflicts.
Some high points:
-Tony and Pepper talking about having a baby in the beginning, very endearing.
-Stark and Strange in a pissing contest. I really wanted to see that.
-Thor calling Rocket "Rabbit" and Groot "Tree".
-Chris Pratt jealous of Thor, very funny.
-Thanos and Gamora relationship, vexing but necessary.
-The Wakanda army was pretty small, and all foot soldiers.
-The Guardians travel to space locations in a day?
-Tyrion Lannister's axe healed Thor from his burns?
-Drax is just a vehicle for lame jokes.
-Vision is nerfed, Scotland could've been an awesome Vision fight... but love made him a puss I guess.
-Starlord ruining his own plan was dumb. Nebula could've said something after the gauntlet was off.

This is all correct. Now we know that some of these deaths will be reversed. There are already a Guardians of the Galaxy, Spiderman, and Black Panther sequels in the works. Loki is dead for good because he didn't die at the hands of the soul stone. Gamora might be revived because she was in the stone but it's possible she's gone for good.
We also know that Chris Evans' contract is up after the next Avengers film so he will surely die rescuing the rest of the heroes. I could see Hulk and Thor dying as well. I have a feeling that Hawkeye was missing because he was off in search of Capt Marvel.
There was a lot more humor than I expected. My only complaints would be that they spent too much time on the guardians and they made vision into a pussy.

I wouldn't assume that Evans is done after the next Avengers film. I think it is possible that we get a couple of movies where Steve Rogers is "dead" and either Falcon or Bucky take up the mantle, but I think ultimately Evans will be back in the role.
I can't think of a reason that Marvel Studios would want to move on from him being that the films are so successful with him as a focal point, and really what else does Evans have going for him? The only thing I think I have seen him in other than the Captain America role for the last several years was Snowpiercer.

He confirmed that it is his last film as Captain America. It wasn't just a misleading statement he was choked up talking about it. He has talked about this for years. He wants to direct films. It will be sad to see him go as he is my favorite hero but I think they will give him a heroic ending in the finale. I fully expect him to sacrifice himself. I could see Bucky taking the shield unless they want to keep him in Wakanda as the White Wolf to add another hero for the Black Panther films.
The Gauntlet was visibly damaged after he snapped his fingers. I wonder if we will see a return of Dinklage's character who will forge a new gauntlet for one of the heroes (Capt Marvel, Nebula, Thor, Hulk, Adam Warlock?) to wear to defeat Thanos.
I would have said Thor too, but I think Ragnarok revitalized the franchise, so I can see him doing more. But surely with Guardians, Captain Marvel, Spiderman and Black Panther they can transition to a new version of the Avengers for the next 10 years.
It's not that several heroes died. It was WHO was killed that surprised me. Black Panther, Dr. Strange, Spiderman, Star Lord, and Groot were the big surprises.
One question to consider. How the F%#k are Tony Stark and Nebula going to get off Titan? Stark was stabbed in the gut, his suit is irreparably damaged, and they don't have a space ship on the dead planet. He doesn't have any of his tech either to solve the problem.

but you know they arent dead... see thats what gets me. I know they arent dead because their second movies were already announced. Thats the reason why i wanted some of the A list team to die because that would be surprising.

Of course but the A-Listers are the ones who go back in time. Ant-Man, Tony, Cap, Thor, and Captain Marvel will play a big role. Ant-Man and the quantum realm will be a big part of it somehow. I wonder if the Ant-Man sequel will be before or after Infinity Wars. It would be odd if it were after with every acting normal after half the world's population was killed.
My question is about Star Lord - He is half terra and half living planet. In GOTG2 Ego says that Star Lord was his first success after many many attempts of spawning a child- therefore it is safe to think that Star Lord is only Species that is half terra / half living planet. With this logic, Star Lord should have survived the Snapture.

Its before.
The theory is Antman will be present in all the situations but was laying low.
Captain will give his life in the last one. But man it would have been cool if he gave it up in this one.

And again, there's still ANOTHER sequel where A-listers are likely TO die! I mean, were you upset in the comics when everyone came back in Infinity Gauntlet?

again my rationale was more emotion to set them off. Setting them off to make them go apeshit even though they will lose. This was that moment. Hell they could have come back for all i care but it would have been a thing of beauty for Captain to die a heroic death now as opposed to the predictable death in the next one.
i mean this movie was great, dont get me wrong. I just wanted more believable deaths instead of ones that i knew wouldnt stay down

I understand, I haven't read the comics so I can't answer that. I expect Tony to survive but retire and perhaps take a nick fury type of role moving forward where he makes a few cameos here and there. I think that was the whole intent with the scene with him and Pepper.

Thanks, clearly i missed the obvious answer with everything going on.
I did enjoy Loki's redemption. This time he really did sacrifice himself to save Thor.
SO I had no clue that the movie wasn't self-contained. It's fine but I'm not a fan of the half a movie/lack of conclusion until a year or more later. I don't care for the Star Wars, and (especially) Harry Potter approach but I know those are coming when I go. So, the ending here surprised me because there weasn't one.
He had to close the fist of the Gauntlet. That's why they kept trying to keep his hand open on Titan.
Fair question, but things can be shielded from Heimdall- especially by someone like Thanos. Additionally, by the time the rescue of Asgard was complete and they were in space, Thanos had already intercepted them (this was the mid-credits scene in GOTG2).
Which helps with the timeline
My prediction is its all about Iron man to battle and retrieve the gauntlet but will cost him greatly, hence why Strange saved him... It wont stop there though Thor will be summoned to battle Thanos and Hulk will re-emerge to save his friend not quite sure if they make it though. also not sure what to do about Cap but I'm sure it will be epic and heroic ending.
I could see Vision coming back in the Adam Warlock role, or Silver Surfer makes his debut. Great way to introduce the fantastic four in a new timeline of events.
Mrs. Marvel will be a 2 movies in 1. I think it will show her origin and her connection to Nick Fury. It will show her being the one to warn Nick Fury about what is to come (why he assembled the avengers) it will also show her return to earth (distress call) and align with Cap.
Movie put a interesting emphasis on Starks new heart/orb in his chest. There was always a theory that the soul stone was in the asteroid that created Vibranium and being that Tony's suit in the movie was made from Vibranium, Is it possible that his core is also the same material.
What if it wasn't the soul stone and there is a 7th stone, could be why Stark was the only avenger to actually be formidable and cause Thanos bleed. He is powered by a seventh stone
Strange saved Stark because he is a savior

I'm pretty sure that the thing in Tony's chest was the nanobots that made up his suit, which is why they made a big deal out of it up front. Because he always has it around. But who knows.
We are likely to see a several step explanation over the upcoming movies before Avengers 4. Remember that one of the overriding themes in Ant Man will be the attempt to rescue Janet Pym from the quantum realm. I suspect that this will give clues to where those Thanos eliminated have gone.
Then, Captain Marvel will be introduced in her stand-alone movie. She might be the most powerful of them all in the end- maybe enough to stop Thanos.
Once that is set up, we likely have the events in place to rescue those Thanos eliminated and set up what has been promised to be "an ending" to the 10 year story by Marvel.

I thought something like that too. An I'm willing to bet Strange will be the one fighting Thanos on the Astral plane in another movie. Not sure how that would play out

Based on the closing credits of GOTG 2 they seem poised to introduce Adam Warlock in GOTG 3.
I don't know what the future of the Fantastic Four/Silver Surfer is in the MCU, but Disney didn't have the rights when they made Avengers Infinity War 2.
