NFT: Mike Francesa wants to come back to NY radio.

Ace718 : 4/23/2018 4:02 pm
Marchand has the story in the Post and there is a lot of chatter on social media. Seems like Francesa is missing being on the air talking sports and is trying to find a way back on the radio. Even a return to WFAN hasn't been ruled out.

Of course he does

His retirement had the same feel as Jay Leno's.
This was as predictable as the sun rising in the East.
bceagle05 : 4/23/2018 4:06 pm : link
What other options did Mike think he had? Talking politics with Chris Christie on some podcast? He's a one-trick pony.
Thank goodness

The troll calls will be hilarious I'm sure as well

Better than the options we have now.
Did he have a non compete at all?
UConn4523 : 4/23/2018 4:08 pm : link
I’m guessing no since he fulfilled his contract and didn’t leave early, but curious if he had language that prevented him from returning to NY radio for X amount of time.
I think he just had to wait til April 1.
bceagle05 : 4/23/2018 4:10 pm : link
So now the rumors are heating up.
He should do Sirus

or a Podcast.

He doesn't need WFAN to be on the "radio"

Neither has anywhere near the reach of broadcast radio.

National radio is so dull.
All of the FAN's ratings are down across the board

AWM BACK ON DA RADIO, AWWRIGHT? DIDJA MISS ME? NOW LETS TAWK ABOUT HAWSE RACING...
His football Sunday show was very good
Joey from GlenCove : 4/23/2018 7:04 pm : link
I’d like to see a 3hr show.

Ive listened to the new show only a handful of times. I really don’t think it’s done well. However it’s early still. They need a full football season.

Evan is very good. I always thought he’d get the time slot at some point.
Couldn't stand even six months at home with the wife and kids

and I actually miss him. If he could get Russo to come back on they'd slaughter the ratings and literally no one would listen Michael Kay. No One.
Why the hell did he leave in the first place?
Knineteen : 4/23/2018 9:21 pm : link
I know he has a no-compete, but he's been gone for 4 months without any mention of future plans. Was there EVER a reasonable plan for his future?
I don't know why anyone would be
Rob in Rockaway : 4/23/2018 9:22 pm : link
"against" this. Don't listen if you don't like him. There's no gun to anyone's head. I personally can only take him in small doses, but when major events happen, he's a must listen for me.

I’m not even a Mike guy but he would deserve to walk in there that way. That radio station is a clown show. Chernoff has never had to work so hard to run a station and it’s evident he’s useless and has no ideas.

New show has its ups and downs, Maggie is OK, Bart Scott can be funny and knows football but Carlin is a total asshole.
I think he finally realized he walked

away from one of the great gigs in all of sports media. I recall him in an interview (may have been with Simmons) where he alluded to how he cracked the code to making big money via podcasts or whatever...but he wouldn't reveal it and it would somehow play a part in his next venture. My guess is that the guys at CAA finally set him straight.

This is for those who started this campaign in recent days. I didn’t decide to go back to WFAN until I was told I better not go back. For those behind it, that was the moment I decided to return.

Met Big Mike at my PT Job a week after he retired. He was picking up something at a table and the woman was like I need to see some ID. He could have said, do you know who I am?? but didnt but a few other coworkers had no clue who he was.

Not sure that's the case. Could have been about money. If he gets a 4+ month vacation + much more money to come back, doesn't he win in the end?

Doubtful. He could have named his price, gotten a reduced schedule, and whatever else he wanted from WFAN. But he thought the grass was going to be greener somewhere else.
Who gets bumped?
figgy2989 : 4/24/2018 9:28 am : link
Unless the lawyers were crafty in writing the contracts from CMB, they are going to be out a lot of dough if he Returns to afternoon drive (in any capacity)

For a station that is not doing well financially, unsure how this would work. Believe me, I want to see big Mike back, but if this puts them in an even further hole, does it make sense?

Also doubtful. There were feelings attached to this and he's alluded to being pushed out. Could be blowhard Francesa, but I'm guessing there is some truth to it.

People changing their minds doesn't always mean they failed to find what they wanted elsewhere. He has a huge ego and its quite possible people were tired of it. Now ratings are dropping and all can be made right if both sides give in, happens all the time.

where he did he mention being pushed out? If he was being pushed out, why did he consider staying after the Carton fiasco?

everything that's been reported since his departure suggests otherwise.

A direct quote from Mike: "This is for those who started this campaign in recent days." That is obviously different from being "pushed out" last year as you mentioned. It's nice you have an opinion - but those who cover this stuff for a living are saying the opposite.
