The Giants drafted Ereck Flowers back in 2015 with the 9th overall pick. There were 32 players (of course) drafted in the first round back in 2015.
I wanted to see how other teams fared with their first rounder that year. Here is a crazy stat:
Pick 12 DT Danny Shelton- TRADED
Pick 18 CB Marcus Peters- TRADED
Pick 19 OT Cameron Erving- TRADED
Pick 28 OG Laken Tomlinson- TRADED
Pick 29 WR Phillip Dorsett- TRADED
Pick 30 CB Damarious Randall- TRADED
Pick 31 LB Stephone Anthony- TRADED
Seven of the 32 First Round picks in 2015 have already been traded. This in a league in which player trades are less frequent than any other major sport.
To me, it means 2 things:
1. The overall 2015 draft was not a strong draft.
2. BBIers that think the Giants should trade all the way down to the 12th overall pick should give that idea a bit more thought.
Outside the top 10 might be more attractive trade targets because the option salary is less than the top 10.
but regardless if teams know they don't want to exercise the option, I think you could see those former 1st round picks move more often than in the past.
Let's look at the 2nd round and compare that to the first ten pics in the draft, lol......
Eric "poop" flowers is the only bust in the top ten that year....
If flowers were the best player in the draft hed still be a bust
Gurley was coming off a horrific knee injury. There was probably a 85% BBI clamour rate for a LOT that year. There was a strong possibility Gurley would not recover his pre-injury abilities.
Hindsight is 20/20. I loved Gurley, but you don't take a 1st round choice of a guy who may never play to his ability again when you need OLine.
