TRADE: The Yankees have acquired RHP A.J. Cole from the Nationals in exchange for cash considerations. Cole has been added to the 40-man roster and will be added to the 25-man roster. RHP David Hale was designated for assignment.

Yanks Trade - ( New Window )
David Hale had his moment of glory tonight.

Name the yanks pitcher with a 0 ERA with at least 2 innings pitched?

This will be a difficult question in September
Hopefully they only view

Cole as a bullpen slop duty guy for games that get out of hand. Even then, not sure it makes any sense to use a 40-man slot on this guy.

Not a good player.

Poor guy, thought he looked fine last night. I guess our bullpen shuffle won’t just be back and forth from Scranton, but through buying guys from other teams too!

Seems a weird move, but they must see something to pick him up. It is only cash and the 40 man roster spot is flexible.

Yup, cost them nothing. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him back on the street once the Yanks survive the run of ~3 weeks without an off day.
Injury updates
Beer Man : 4/24/2018 8:12 am : link
Drury is expected to start his rehab assignment at AAA this week.

Clint Frazier played in an extended Spring training game yesterday, will play again today and Wednesday, and play in a game on Thursday for the Tampa Tarpons
Regarding Drury
Beer Man : 4/24/2018 8:23 am : link
With the way Andujar has been playing, could Drury be the next Wally Pipp (headaches and all)?

I’m not sure what the Yanks do with the roster when some of these injured guys start returning. Andujar cannot go anywhere at this point. Neither can Austin.

They probably want to keep Walker’s lefty bat on the bench...so where does that leave Drury? Torreyes continues to prove his value playing all 3 IF positions well and hitting more than anyone expects, hard to let him go too. I think Walker gets released in the end.

And Frazier should get his shot as another OF at some point. And Bird will get his chance to take back his job if/when he proves himself healthy.

Unless Yanks can get comfortable with only 7 relievers on the roster for a little bit (tough to say with most of our starters not yet giving us length).

Nice problems to have, in the end.

With the SWB shuttle, they can go with 7 relievers for a short while. Problem is that most of the top pitching prospects on the farm are struggling (e.g., Adams) or not yet ready for the bigs (e.g., Sheffield)
When one of the infielders comes back

Either Torreyes or Torres will go to Scranton. When/if they both come back, maybe Holder?
Torres probably won't go down...
Dunedin81 : 4/24/2018 9:13 am : link
Hale is going to be the next shutdown reliever. For someone else.
I do agree his future is in his hands
Greg from LI : 4/24/2018 9:19 am : link
But if he's hitting at a Tyler Wade level, I could easily see him returning to AAA.

Andujar's here to stay though, I think. Or, at the very least, he will be given a lot of leeway when he slumps.
Anyone catch Severino's prank on Torres last night?
Beer Man : 4/24/2018 10:59 am : link
When the Ball from Torres' first MLB hit was thrown to the dugout, Sevi scooped it up and immediately tossed a decoy ball into the crowd. I got a little chuckle out of it.

Hale as a shutdown reliever seems a bit optimistic.
Probably
Greg from LI : 4/24/2018 11:50 am : link
But he wouldn't be the first. Many Yankees castoffs have shined elsewhere - Anthony Swarzak, Tommy Kahnle, Richard Bleier, James Pazos, Nick Goody among others.

From what I've seen, it seems to be "a thing" to do to rookies. The Blue Jays did the same thing when Guerriel (sp?) got his first hit in the last series.
BTW, am I the only one who didn't know Ollie Perez is in Scranton??
Greg from LI : 4/24/2018 1:42 pm : link
How random.
