based on everything I've read so far about draft boards and player evals/rankings wouldn't it make sense to trade the #1 overall pick to late single digits or even early teens (Denver, Miami, Buffalo, Arizona)
I haven't read about anyone else this high on Mayfield.

No that would not make sense. My prediction is that Mayfield goea third after the browns take Darnold and the Giants take Rosen.

I'm beginning to think the Browns are going to take Rosen
surprise trade at the top. It may not be BUffalo coming up. Don't count out NE. I could see the Pats offering both 1's, a pick(s) elsewhere and Gronk to get up there.
with two first round picks later, the #1 pick (QB it seems) and then other picks and Gronkowski. Yes, they have a young guy at TE but this gives them another weapon to help take the pressure off the QB and takes the need for a TOP Back out as the committee approach will be worthwhile. Plus, Gronkowski would be an addition to the blocking..
RE: I can see it. Mayfield and Rosen are acknowledged

Gronk is threatening to retire, do you think a trade to the Browns solves that?

That wouldnt even remotely close be enough to get the Patriots near the top.

Mayfield to the Jets at 3 is probably the most consistent thing out there right now. I've seen a couple of reports that the Broncos will take him if he's there at 5. The Cardinals reportedly LOVE him and may trade up if he gets past 5.
I can't imagine the Browns trading away the 1st pick,
that just doesn't seem possible. I do wonder whether Cleveland will take Barkley at #1, but they would have to be comfortable with taking Josh Allen at #4, because both NY teams aren't trading with them under those circumstances.

who said it, what we don't know is whether he would have said the exact same thing if asked about any of the other top QBs. Or Barkley.
In fact, when he was asked at his pre-draft last Thursday if Barkley was under consideration for #1, his reply was: "Absolutely."
And if you think, well, that was last week, it was just last night that Dorsey gave an interview to the Cleveland FAN station. I happened to catch it live and was going to post separately but I'll just put it here, with a linked article from the Akron Beacon Journal.
Dorsey was asked to give his takes on the top four QBs and he insisted on expanding his answer to include Mason Rudolph and Lamar Jackson.
Quote:
Mason Rudolph, hes a bigger guy, has a really good arm, has nice touch down the field.
Sam Darnold, hes got a really nice, quick release. He has feet to avoid and slide and extend the play.
Josh Rosen is a guy who is probably one of the best pure passers in the game of football.
Baker Mayfield runs around and he kind of gets the ball downfield, has some good accuracy there.
Lamar Jacksons got great feet to extend the play. Some people try to compare him to Michael Vick. I myself compare him to Randall Cunningham.
Josh Allen has a big arm, probably has the biggest arm of all the guys in this draft, and hes a really, really, really good athlete.
I'm not at all discounting Mayfield as a possibility but my take would be that the "definitely" either didn't come from Dorsey, or, if it did, it wouldn't necessarily signify a narrowing down of the candidates. On the FAN - ( New Window )
Why wouldn't they take him #1? It seems there are plenty of rumors that the Jets like Mayfield. If you like a QB and you are picking first, why not just get your guy? It may just be one more smokescreen to entice trade offers.
The only counter to this would be if the Browns like the combo of Barkley and Rosen/Allen more than they like the combo of Mayfield and Chubb. They would need to have pretty close grades on all the top QBs to not take one with the first pick.
Since I don't think Mayfield is in play for the Giants at #2, it would be great if the Browns did take him so the Giants get the top guy on their board, whoever that is.
days. I'm sticking with Darnold. I just don't see Allen that high, you need to overlook a lot of stuff and just focus on his measurables to pick Allen. I also don't see Mayfield personally, and I would take Darnold, Rosen, and Allen all over Mayfield.

It's always been Darnold since the Brown's owner Haslam attended his pro day. The Cleveland beat reporters also see Darnold as a lock at 1.
@espnbob
If youre the Browns, youve already scared the teams who want Saquon, Darnold, Allen or Rosen into calling to see what it would take to get to #1...all thats left is to try a transparent reach to see if you can scare a few teams that like Baker into calling too
With the 1st pick in the 2018 @1010xl Media Mock Draft
Mayfield is -300 to go in the top 6 picks. Seems like a certainty he's gone at #3, but even if the Jets pass, the Broncos won't. The guys setting odds know more about what's going on than you or I. He's not going to be available in the 9-12 range. If the Browns want him, and they should, then take him #1. It's really not that complicated.
as the two most accurate qb's in this draft and Rosen has had two concussions.
What about Mayfield's concussions?
Nobody's talking about that as a concern for either of the guys that that's been linked to. Either nobody cares and it's overblown, or, I suppose, they all just forgot about it.

Hmm. She's usually pretty well plugged in.
No, that's been her "own" personal view of who they should take. However, she says the safe choice on who they will take is Darnold. She hasn't changed Darnold as the choice for a while.

I have, I have read that the teams like Mayfield, LOVE HIM. In evaluating college QBs, If, production, winning, games started and efficiency are weighted heavily. He is hands down, your number 1 QB in the class.
I don't want to draft any of these QBs. I would try to draft Mike White out of Western Kentucky in round 4 or 5 and hope to sign Chase Litton out of Marshall as a FA, unless of course we come up with a 6th or 7th round pick through a trade
(Flowers?) LOL I would also sign Derek Anderson as a vet who both Gettleman and Shula are familiar with.
At #2 I would feel best about Mayfield or Rosen. If the Giants selected Allen I would be disappointed unless we traded down. I would assume that they feel like they can work with him. I really cannot put a finger on it, but the guy that I just don't like trying toe vision as the leader of the NY Football Giants is Darnold.

Heres what Browns writer @NathanZegura projects on teams website for No. 1 pick:
QB Sam Darnold - All along I have believed it would come down to Darnold or Baker Mayfield. I do think Mayfield was given incredibly strong consideration, but...Darnold too promising to pass.
Unless the NFL executive he spoke to was Dorsey.

Doubt it. Im sticking with Darnold as their pick.

Agreed. I think they're trying to get the Jets to trade up to #1. Darnold is the pick. Mayfield would be stunning.

Mayfield has had concussions as well, and some knee issues.

That would make him retire quicker. :)

Wouldn't be surprised to see more leaks on Darnold leading up to the draft.
